The launch at the golf course is a good area to put in. The course has it gated and they charge you (I think it was $20 last year) for the key. I usually put in at Riverton, and use my trolling motor to get to the main river. It's pretty shallow with rocks in some areas. I have seen people running outboards (not sure if they were jet or not), I'm just not quite brave enough to do it yet. I usually fish the area during the week and don't see much traffic, but I've been told it gets pretty busy on wekkends.- One More Little Detail About Bbwc....
Congrats.- Win 2 New Reels!
I admit, I didn't think of this when I made my post. I honestly just wanted to share if I had won. I enjoy the guessing game and will play everytime I remember to log in, whether there is a great prize or not. I appreciate all that Glenn, the other moderators and all the great members put into and contribute to this site. Keep up the good work.- Win 2 New Reels!
I didn't mean to offend you, if I did, Glenn. I just wanted to spread the wealth if it was my option.- Win 2 New Reels!
Not an ex auto mechanic, but I agree. Don't need 2 reels, give the runner up the second one if I when.- A Beginner's Fishing Journey
I'm with ya here. Just started bass fishing last year, pretty much the same way as you. You tube and reading on here. I still don't think I'm doing most of the stuff "right", but occasionally it works and I catch something. I enjoy the time on the water whether I'm catching anything not, it's a lot more fun catching though. Eventually we will figure it out though.- Nothern Virginia Native
- Where'd The Larger Bass Go?
Thank you. I think I understand. Now I just have to apply to my lake. I do have a topo of it, so that will help.- Where'd The Larger Bass Go?
I'm still new to bass fishing, so bear with me. Would the point near the hunting grounds be a good location also and why or why not? Not trying to hijack this thread, but a lake I fish is similar to this one and I've been trying to figure it out.- Yet Another Nova Native Trying To Get Into Bass Fishing!
Welcome aboard to another Virginian. Lots of good info here.- Do You Fish Alone Or With A Buddy?
I like both. I enjoy my time on the water by myself, but it is also good to have someone there when the fish aren't biting. Also, I'm not very good at it yet, and learn something almost everytime I'm on the water with someone.- Live Bait Shops In Or Around Leesburg, Va
The closest one I know of is in Winchester. Jake'S bait and tackle. The only other one I know of is the bait shop on Lake Frederick south of Winchester.- Great News Guys :)
Congrats!!! Good luck with the new job.- Am I The Only One
You're not the only one. I initially had the same feeling, but the more you read, the more you find out that a lot of the information applies to yakkers, canoes and bank walkers alike. A lot of the fishing I do is also on a trolling only lake also.- Sport Fisher 120
That's exactly what I did. Tied a rope to the boat and stood between boat and trailer and pulled it up. Luckily it's a light boat. Thanks for the responses.- Sport Fisher 120
I just got my first boat, a sport fisher 120. It's the perfect boat for me as I spend a lot of time by myself on the water. The question I have is, it has a bow mount trolling motor and I do a lot of fishing in a river. What is the easiest way to load it on a trailer by myself. With the tm I don't think I could power load. Luckily, the boat is light enough that I was able to dunk the trailer and muscle it on, but it was time consuming and I'm sure would have been very entertaining to watch. LOL- Sun Dolphin Pro 120
Thanks Zach. Good info there.- Sun Dolphin Pro 120
I'm starting to plan for next season, as I'm getting tired of bankfishing. Looking at the Pro 120 with a troller and obviously small outboard. Does anyone have experience with these? Is it worth the money or a waste of time and money? I would be fishing mostly a river and a small lake that only allows electric motors.- Beginner Baitcasting Reel
I don't have as much input as most of these guys, but I just got my first baitcast yesterday. I got a Quantum Kinetic from Gander Mountain for 50 bucks. I watched some you tube videos, did about 3 hours of yard fishing/digging out birds nests last night, and had it on the pond this morning. So far, I love it though.- Oakley Turbines
I haven't seen the Oakley Turbines, but I do wear Oakleys. Since I bought my first pair 20 years ago until today, that's all I wear. I've never had an issue with the finish coming off a pair (I average almost 6 years a pair). I do, however, think that my wife's Ray Bans have a better image quality. The choice is really up to you on what you get get. Try on a bunch of different styles, brands and colors. Go with what works for you.- First Baitcaster
Thank you all for you opinions. I agree with what Lou said about the learning curve. It's gonna be a big change and probably not as easy as I would like. You've all given me some excellant choices. Now to continue researching and hopefully give updates of my progress and decision. I'm sure my wife will have a good laugh watching me "yard fish" with it the first time.- First Baitcaster
Thank you both for the quick responses. I am just starting my search so I appreciate the input. Zeth, yes, that reel is only 50 bucks or so. I picked that one as a starting point, because I've read good things about Lew's reels and I liked that, being one myself, a portion (I'm sure it's small) goes to help veterans. I will definitely check out the Quantum reels though to expand my search.- First Baitcaster
I figured this is the best place to ask for advice. I've been reading for a while and realize everyone has their favorites and opinions, so, I'm just looking for some feedback. I've fished spinning rods and reels since I was young. One of my reels had finally just about met it's end (it's 25 years old). I want to try to learn to use a bit casting set-up. I don't want to break the bank only to find out I don't enjoy it as much, so I'm looking to stay around $150-200. I looked at tackle warehouse and they have the "American Hero" combo from Lew's in my target range. My question is... Is this a set-up that I am going to be happy with or will it frustrate me to the point of just going back to the spinning set-up? What are some others options you guys would recommend in my target range? Thank you for the advice.- Just Starting Bass Fishing
Hello all. Long time Pennsylvania trouble fisherman. I stopped fishing for any years, and am now just getting back into it, only going for bass mostly now in Virginia. I enjoy all the great information on this site and look forward to a long time visiting and one day trading stories with you all. - Shenandoah, North Fork
