  1. I got A. Jacob Powroznik B. Mark Davis C. Brent Chapman D. Byron Velvick C. Paul Mueller This has been the toughest pick so far for me.
  2. For all you guys who's wife gives you are hard time about the bait monkey. Remind her that the boutique monkey is a real thing as well. I told my wife she was a victim of the boutique monkey and I explained to her what it was and she started laughing and and was like "that' a real thing." She has since quit giving me as much grief about the bait monkey.
  3. I like the kvd's but I just bought an WEC and it deflects better than any square bill I've ever thrown. It was a total bait monkey purchase
  4. Very nice that's a fish to be real proud of. Like jiggin said those fish are tall and fat and we're a bit jealous.
  5. Nice! Gotta love it when a plan comes together!!
  6. There's like 5 youtube video's of greg hackney talking about fishing "structure grass." He won that elite event in NY fishing deep grass. Go to the bassmaster's website and watch the Cayuga Lake event from last year. That lake's one big ball of Milfoil and he dominated the event fishing grass 15-18ft deep. "Greg Hackney & Structure Grass" Hackney Fishing Structure Grass on Toledo Bend
  7. Exactly. I'll tie that size on if I'm floating. I always get a funny look throwing my bait casting rod out of the canoe!!
  8. So i tied my first jigs to help me on my quest. I'm messing with colors, pumpkin and tan with brown patches is what a lot of the craw fish in our creeks look like. The reason I'm doing this is because the selection for small jigs that are high quality and in good colors seems to be very limited. These are 1/4 and 3/16 oz heads in like 1 and 2 books. Just wanted to get you guys thoughts. They are about 44 strand jigs. I think they are a little bulky and I'll probably end up in the mid 30s. Cut me some slack these are the first jigs I've ever tied!!
  9. Summer sexy shad. I thought it was a 1.0 but he said on the episode it was a 1.5 There's a lot more to the video than a guy reeling faster than everyone else.
  10. See I was worried more about replacing the rattles and replacing the hook keepers. If I was to cut I'd cut from the back only too the bill and that would give me enough play to recreate the inconsistencies. The problem then is only the good lord knows which inconsistencies work. I've also thought about using some epoxy and creating a bevel on the underside. I also believe they could create a better hunting action buy using a weighting system like that in the kvd squarebill series. I should have been an engineer :|
  11. I've actually debated cutting one open on the band saw and glueing it back together erratically. Maybe one day I'll attempt it.
  12. Just learned so much from watching kvd's hands.
  13. People will say they are "original mold" when they make a mold from a pre-repala wiggle wart. Like jrob said its their crappy construction that made them hunt crazy. A lot of them would have inconsistency when they glued the halfs together. Also the actual pre-rapala plastic was heavier caused the plug to not rise to the surface as quickly. I buy the actual pre-rapala WW in the bad colors no one wants and get them painted rather than spend the crazy $$$ on those specific color. I live on beaver and fish table rock and bull shoals a lot and never go out on the water without one tied on. Probably more info than you care to know haha Im a wiggle wart nerd.
  14. Absolutelty! Positioning the boat in shallow water makes the big girls commit because they run out of water. It's a different look. And it's effective. People do give you a funny look. But if it didn't work no one would ever catch fish off the bank.
  15. From the top view it almost looks like a trap with a lip. I might have to try one. I'm picky when it come to my squarebills, but Spro does make quality plugs.
  16. I just got beat up by the bait monkey. WEC1 Squarebill in chartreuse and green back Tatula p100 5.4:1 7'2'' Powell Medium heavy moderate composite
  17. It's the most effective when you fine yourself in a situation where you need present a bait in a very quietly to a precise location. You can find yourself in that situation at anytime of year or day. I think people do find themselves flipping & Pitching more in winter and summer when the bass are a bit more Latharic. Also people will pitch more when the bass are relating tight to cover. And people pitch a lot when the fish are on the beds in the spring. I think lure selection is more conditioned to time of day or year, especially time of year. I'm pretty sure there's so much grass in Florida that they sell snoopy flipping rods down there for kids to learn on.
  18. Hi! Good fishing in the refuge in SE AR. I've had some of my best days on an unnamed oxbow banging spinnerbaits off cypress knees! It's one of my favorite places to go!
  19. They double as crappie lures.
  20. Good luck! They are trying to get on beds right now.
  21. Where can we see the show at?
  22. I get some new soft plastics and my wife always asks "What flavor are those?" Me: "Green Watermelon & pumpkin." Wife: "Do fish like the taste of green pumpkin?" Me: "It's a color not a flavor." Wife: "Oh, so what do they taste like?" Me: "Some taste like coffee or salt?" Wife: "So i guess a big bass loves some pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks." I wish i made that up. She still asks me what flavor it is every time i get something new just to pester me. Her new favorite line is "what flavor where the bass biting today?" I guess that's one way to put it....
  23. Look at it as if your covering water to find fish. When you find fish you may never have to slow down, You might get all your work done on a moving bait. If you begin to put a pattern together with a moving bait you can potentially pick the pattern apart with a slower bait. Also, you may have to slow down. But I try to fish fast first and cover water until I rule out moving baits. My theory is you only have so long to fish whether it's a tournament or fun fishing. You can always slow down if you need to, but you can run out of time fishing slow if you can't find fish that way. Then again if you show up and they'll bit a jig then I'd never put down the big stick. But I prefer to fish fast to slow for efficiency.
