  1. Went out again today in 35 degree weather :-? Pretty excited about this new lake! Managed to boat 8 fish today! Not quite Varner hawgs, but considering the poor weather and just learning this lake, I have a feeling that there might be some pigs there... The fish are holding on the edge of a grass flat near deeper water. There was a lot of surface activity, and at one time we had 3 or 4 bass chasing shad around and they allmost ran into the boat! Caught most of the fish on shad raps, two on spinnerbaits, and one on plastics. Looking foward to another warm up
  2. Congrats! That is an awesome catch! I really have to hand it to ya'll, you really have Varner figured out... Ryan and I are planning on fishing out there more this year. I have always known that it is a great lake. I caught my first fish over 10 lbs out there. Lake Nunya is a good lake, and we know it well. but it can't hang with the size of the bass in Varner... Congrats again!
  3. perch caught on a shad rap
  4. Me and Ryan hit a new lake yesterday. We were going to just check it out and see what it looked like. We weren't expecting to catch any because it was the day after a large cold front, and it was very cold and windy. Turns out they were biting and very aggressive too. We managed to catch 10 bass in 3.5 hours on unfamiliar water. Most of them were 2 lber's except Ryan pulled in one that weighed 4lb 5oz. I also caught a perch. They were hitting shad raps and husky jerk in about 5 foot of water over grass. May go back today for a bit and give them another try. Check out the bait Ryan caught!!! ;D
  5. I have posted these pics on here before, but I use the 'Cook's go to' tackle system on my boat. It is one of the best things I have bought in a long time... I keep all of my crankbaits, and other tackle in plano boxes. If I ever go fishing on someone elses boat, I have a soft tackle box that I fill up with the what I need...
  6. Thanks everyone! I will be returning to fish that spot this spring. I am hoping that my dad will "hook me up" again!
  7. I wish I had some of my dad's old tackle. I'm not sure if I would fish with it or not, but it would be nice to have just for the memories... Are you making these lures yourself? Have any pics?
  8. What a great story! I am sure his father was there with him that day... I have a similar story. When I was a kid my dad lived on lake oconee here in GA. Although we fished the lake regularly together, we usually didn't go too far from his cove. I was young at the time and I really didn't know the lake that well. We did manage to catch alot of fish together! I spent every summer at his place growing up. My dad passed away when I was 11 years old. He was my best friend and best fishing partner ever! Last year I bought a bass boat so I could fish some bigger lakes. Lake Oconee is not to far from where I live now so I started fishing there occasionally. I bought a lake map and started to learn the water a little. One day me and a buddy went fishing together. My friend doesn't fish. He was just along for the ride and enjoying relaxing on the boat. After not catching anything for a couple of hours, I decided to try and find my dad's old house. It was about an 8 mile ride, and I found it pretty easily. I checked the place out and took a few pics and told my buddy a few old stories about my dad and when I used to stay there all the time. I was about to crank up the motor and head back to the ramp when my friend suggested that I should fish there. He thought I might catch a few with my dad's help... Sure enough, on the first cast against his dock I had a hit! It was a solid 4lb fish! I caught 8 fish in about 12 casts off of dad's old dock! I couldn't beleive it! That was the start of my best day yet on oconee! As I fished around the cove, I managed to boat around 18 fish in less than an hour! I even caught one about 6 lbs! Also, the next 3 or 4 times I fished oconee, I did really well in this area... Maybe just luck, but I'd like to think that my dad was there with me that day. I could almost imagine him in the boat with me ripping a hookset on one of those fat bass! Here are some pics I took of the old lake house...
  9. I'm hoping to finally get one over 11 lbs. I've caught 2 over 10 lbs... But, Ill take some 7's, 8's, 9's, well actually I'll take whatever I can set the hook on!
  10. suspending jerkbait, jerk it a few times and let it sit (long pauses) Fluke with split shots a foot or so up the line, work it the same as the jerk, it will be on the bottom though... Yo-Yo a rattletrap, I usually let it fall all thge way to the bottom depending on how snaggy the area is. The fish usually hit it on the fall (at least where I am fishing) Goog Luck! I hope you rip them...
  11. Lets make a little wager... ;D
  12. The reel is sweet. Caught my first fish on it last trip out... 8-)
  13. In all seriousness what do you think of the game? Some seem to leave it but a bunch seem to hate it. Thanks The game is a bit easy and repetitive... Its the first fishing game I've had since Black Bass on super nintendo (long time ago) That was a much better game.
  14. ;D The game is Bass Pro Shops Trophy Bass 2007. I caught her on a texas rig, pumpkin seed worm in 8' of water :
  15. I thought you might get a kick out of that!!!

  19. Not sure. They do look like centerlines. They are the wheels on my boat trailer...
