Setting the Hook on Buzzbaits
Do not set the hook until you feel the fish on the line. It will take a little while to train yourself not to rip a hookset when the fish blows up on it. Sometimes the fish will completely miss the bait multiple times before finally getting a hold of it. Also, use a trailer hook to up your chance of a hookup...

Man, that bait is gonna put some Varner hawgs on the line for sure! I'm serious about buying one when you get the time to make another. Let me know

Crappie fishing trip
good for you Except for one thing. Take that purty blue eyed thang with you. I mean the pictures of the bass are nice but........... 8-) I keep trying to get her to go, but she has a very busy schedule... I think she is waiting for warmer weather... Don't worry though, I sure we will have some pics of her holding up some hawgs in the near future, and maybe a few more stories about outfishing me too

Inventions etc
Randall, I'd be interested in buying one of those from you if you make any more. The action of that bait is absolutely awesome! I kept waiting for a hog to explode on that bait during the whole video! Have you thought about adding some weight to make it go a little deeper? The way it is now would probably trigger some killer topwater strikes!

Inventions etc
I like the idea of the drain plug dummy light on the dash. As for the weights with the rattles in them, I actually have some that I bought from bass pro. I can't remember who made them though...

Crappie fishing trip
We decided to go crappie fishing yesterday. We were using crappie minnows, fishing them 10 to 16 foot deep in up to 25 foot of water. The only problem is that all we could catch was bass. It was kinda strange, these minnows were only 1 1/2" long. Anyhow, it was a good time even though we didn't catch what we were fishing for ;D We were fishing using the spider rig technique on micro rods with 4lb test. It was in the low 40's outside and 30 mph wind...

Not a good day...
Been there before and I feel your pain... I was at Lake Bennett and the boat ramp there is at one end of the lake. It was in the high 30's that day and the wind was around 25-30 mph. we let the wind blow us down the lake all the way to the very back. Finally we decided to head back to the ramp and guess what??? Dead battery > We had a paddle, but it was useless trying to go into the wind. There was no one else there fishing to help either. We ended up paddleing to shore, and had to pull the boat with a rope all the way back to the boat ramp. Cold, wet and tired, we limped back home. Next trip we had 2 new batteries, and I have always taken a spare battery since.
