  1. Who collects vintage reels? Do you still use them? The reason I ask is because I was given a Shimano Bantam 1000AG Tournament reel. I was told it was vintage/classic. I've done some research and this was a reel that was released in the early 80s (80-83). Do you still have one? Do you use it? How good were they? I thought this would be a cool topic to talk about while we soak a worm.
  2. Go to fishingnetwork.net and get info and ask for so-cal help. So-cal guys are on here and really cool. If you don't find a guide for bass, go to the pier and fish. No license required. If you are traveling with your gear, buy some shrimp, squid or hammer swimbsits and enjoy. Welcome and no place like Cali.
  3. Nice pic and looks cool to paddle. Let me be the first to warn you, kayaking and buying toys is addicting. You will need an intervention soon. LOL
  4. I went out with everything and then decided to cut back. So I have gear sitting in my garage ready when needed.
  5. This was me. I bought everything that I thought I needed. After my first trip, went out with one plano box and two poles
  6. I just googled it, nice. You need a milk crate for the back storage area. You can place you finder and holders on that front panel area. A lot of potential. One important item to have, the sham-wow to pick up the water that will collect inside your yak.
  7. I got the Garmin 100. I got a plastic cutting board and created an arm for the transducer. Put it together and bam!!!
  8. See, one quad made three people happy. I'm a simple person so fish finder under $70 is enough. Two rod holders from Scotty. Again, its about fishing not the toys. LOL Make the deal and start your addiction.
  9. I would take it. This could be a good starter yak. You can upgrade later. You also have some extra yaks for friends and family. You can add a fish finder, rod holders and go into spots boats can't. Plus, the fish don't discriminate on sot or sit inside. LOL Key to a yak, catch fish and have fun doing it.
  10. This reel will be my flipping reel. So I want a reel that was small and compact but cheap. I only flip when needed and j don't want an expensive reel sitting. I own diawas so I know the product. I'm getting the silver one cuz it looks cool.
  11. I'm buying a Laguna but I have a few questions. Is the green reel the latest model? There's a silver one with the same model number, lgn100h. The diawa web page only mentions the green model. When did the silver model come out?
  12. Is WS trying to compete with Tracker or ranger? If we want an engine on a yak, we buy a bass boat. We buy a kayak for the fun of paddling and roughing it. SMH!!!
  13. Your thoughts on shimano bass one reel from Japan. Amazon has it for $70. No info on shimano site.
  14. I did the coke can fishing. LOL My parents could not afford gear so I did it. Today, I fish from a kayak so spinning gear is best when sitting. I have one baitcaster for crank baits, spinner and buzz baits. Great article.
  15. 2 lakes from Texas, Wis and Cali in the top 10.
  16. Hey Cali, I have a truck too. I talked to the chp, red flag and tie it down, you're good.
  17. Tarpon 120 would probably be your best boat. The 140 is for ocean and big water. The ascend you can stand but its heavy. I don't know the other brand. If you are looking for great boat without the name brand, perception pescador. Its a tarpon but with out the extras and good price. Dicks sporting carries them. I have a Tarpon 100 and love it.
  18. Coop, fishing from a kayak is very addicting and the spouse might get jealous. I fish from a Tarpon SOT 10 foot beast. I pick up the yak with one hand and transport in the back of my truck with no problems. One thing feature I like about my yak, the slide track. No need to drill holes. Rod holders and fish finder go on the track. I even have a cleat on the track. No DMV, no trailer, no engine problem and no one to bother you. I would not sell my yak for a boat. Also, I keep it light with gear. 3 poles, 4 plano boxes in a milk crate, anchor, pliers and one water proof box for phone and keys. One last thing, exercise and fishing at the same time. You can't beat that. Enjoy and welcome to the addiction.
  19. Barry, I have a Tarpon 100 or ten foot kayak, 30 lbs and easy to transport. My son has an Emotion 8 foot yak, even easier to load and lighter too. Emotions make a 9 and 10 foot too. I love my 100 for reason above and for how easy it is to use on the water. I recommend a plastic boat. I've seen guys on inflatables and its not fun watching them get around. Go looking around and tests as many as possible. If budget is an issue, used is as good as new.
  20. My only experience with an OK was at a summer camp as a life guard and boat guide. Keep in mind, these kayaks are the bottom models. The kayak did not come with a seat. The seat width was not good. I felt like my cheeks were hanging out. It was a tight fit. LOL
  21. I only fish from my Wilderness System Tarpon 100 kayak. I would not fish any other way. Small, light and goes anywhere. My only con, no motor but I get a workout getting to my spots. Pros, no DMV. LOL Yes, my kayak is pretty tight but with rod holders, I can carry 4-5 rods. Also, a kayak is better than shore. My #1 pro, I can go where boats can't.
  22. I have a Tarpon 100 and love it. But, living in California, I have to find some water to slime it up. I created a fish finder platform from a cutting board. I took my golf cart apart to use the wheels for a cart and metal pieces for the transducer arm. I'm pretty simple so limited equipment.
