  1. Peanut butter "Jiffy" jars are water proof. So start saving your jars.
  2. Time to move to Florida or Cali. Sandals and shorts year round. LOL I fish during our 40' winters. So, everything stays the same but I wear long sleeve shirts or hoodies and long water resistance pants. Life is hard out here in the west coast.
  3. Welcome to the madness. Always take your life jacket, water proof container for wallet, phone and keys and keep it simple. 2-3 rods, several plano boxes in a milk crate and off you go. Its about having fun.
  4. How political can I get without getting kicked off this site? I live here so I have strong feelings about this, really @#$%&* strong feelings.
  5. My two cents; if you have time, take a chair out back and cast from a sitting position. Use all your same gear and have fun.
  6. I have the 6-6 spinning already and no complaints. I will get the 7 cast. Thanks guys for your input.
  7. I have a curado I and its my go to, do all, all purpose reel. I have and use spinning reels for everything so this reel is it. I fish from a kayak. Also, I'm a very hands on and visual shopper so online is frustrating for me. Sojourn 6-6 M for $30 or Shock 7 MH for $40? Do I need a MH to cover all applications or can I do it with a M? Also, 7 feet is preferred but can 6-6 get it done?
  8. I have a tarpon. When its windy, I change my game plan to use the wind in my favor. I troll with a crank or Carolina and use the wind to move me along. I hope that made sense. Also, I find trees or structure to block the wind. Wind will make a day of kayak fishing a horrible experience. Don't let it ruin your passion for kayak fishing.
  9. Its hard to not go political when it comes to California leaders, so I will only say, call and write to your local leaders to vote against this. I will stop before saying something crazy and get kicked out.
  10. You have a great yak so time on the water is all you need. So go fishing.
  11. I don't own one but paddled one. I was able to handle it well, track well and overall a nice ride. Good luck and welcome to the addiction.
  12. Well, you have to move up in kayak size. Most fishing kayaks come with great seats, plenty of space and more control. I had to teach myself to relax and enjoy but be happy because I was no longer restricted to the shore. If you have a Dicks sporting, REI, Bass Pro or any big sporting good store around, go sit in the kayaks and get a feel for the one you like. You will find one that fits you. As for LMB, go get some stick baits or senkos and get comfortable with them. Use them in all situations unit you find your groove. Then move on to other plastic like a 7-10 inch worm, drop shot, creatures and craws. Just like when you started with pan fish, you learned how to fish for them and all your gear was for them, It's the same thing. I hope that made sense.
  13. #2: try a kayak. Its fun and gets you to the spots you want to fish. Plus, cheaper than a boat and no standing in line at the DMV. I told me nephew to start with senkos until he feels comfortable then move on to another set up. So, take it slow. I'm in Cali so what are smallmouths? LOL
  14. I hope this helps. This is my FF board. I have my battery at my feet by the foot peg. I have another cutting board on the other side for my gear like pliers and stuff. The rod holder can go in front or behind the board. you also have to two trax behind the seat to add more stuff. My biggest thing was "no holes" in my yak.
  15. The pescador and tarpon are the same boats. If you can, add a set of trax and I promise that your life would be 100% better. You can add accessories with making holes on you yak. Hook One has them.
  16. What make and model kayak do you have? On my tarpon, I bought a cutting plastic board for 99 cents. Added some hardware and drilled and cut holes for my gear. I placed the board on my trax. Easy on and off and easy access. I even put my rod in a hole while retying. I hope this made sense.

Frank G was from Bakersfield Ca. He was a Driller and a darn good one too. I live 20 minutes away from Bako. He's a legend here like Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. I will always remember him for MNF. He's a Cali boy, proud be his neighbor and he will be missed.
  18. Perception pescador yak at Dicks sporting good.
  19. Do you have license your yak now? I was told, in California, you add a motor, stand in line at the DMV. Any truth to that?
  20. Very creative but if your going to do all that, get a boat.
  21. In Spanish: Chee ma noo
  22. Buff, my 2 cents; most, if not all, yaks are about a yard or so across so not stable like a boat. I've been on my tarpon 100 for 4 years, never flipped or taken a dip. I was worried but lost that feeling with time. I don't stand so no need for a big yak. My tarpon is light and easy to maneuver. My yak has the slide trax and easy to add electronics and accessories without making holes. Seat is important so pick a yak with a good seat. The most important advise, find the yak that will bring joy and happiness. Fishing is fun and not stressful. Don't buy just to. Take your time and get the right one. Welcome to the addiction.
  23. If your yak has slide trax, attach the finder on a cutting board. The battery in a water proof box. You ducer is attached to an arm that is also attach yo the board. Easy on and off and no holes in yak. I have a garmin 100 and its easy to use.
  24. Before you start rolling your eyes and saying "this again," I'm not promoting a reel or reviewing a reel. My boss gave me some free time to just relax in my office so I did a little research about these reels. mainly who they are. I do a lot of research at work so this is simple for me. My purpose for this; just because. Keep in mind that this was not FBI deep investigation but just a dude in his office looking busy. I searched for the name brand Trulinoya and I found this webpage: http://www.dhgate.com/reviews/seaknight-baitcasting-reel-reviews.html If you look to the left column you will see Diawa, Abu and Mitchell knock offs. This company is called Hangzhou SeaKnight Fishing Tech and they partner with Abu, Mitchell, Berkley, Pure Fishing and Trulinoya. Trulinoya has been a subject of many discussions and debates. I found this reel DynaMic or Weihai Dynamic Outdoor Co. They partner with Academy and Eagle Claw. They have their own name brand reels. I went back and read some of your posts on these reels and someone mentioned Yoshikawa reels. They appear to be their own company; Shenyan Shengan Fishing Tackle Co. From the website, they work alone and their reels "look" pretty cool. I also found Haibo reels or Ningbo Beilun Haibo Machinery Co (China-Haibo.com). they have a baitcast reel also called Steed. This company does a lot of stuff other than reels. This came from their website: Haibo fishinggreel industry is the leader industry of haibo company and the management system and Organization situation which combined with RR&D. ,design ,manufacture and sales . Haibo fishingreel was found in 1994 ,though over ten years professional creating and advanced technology ,haibo fishingreel is in advance level in new material ,advanced technology , new process ,new equipment etc filed in Domestic and become a long cooperation partner in OEM manufacture middle &top-technology fishingreel with international famous brand fishingreel company such as Quantum、PENN、Fin-nor、Zebco、Rhino、Abu Garica、Balzer、Shakespeare、Pinnacle and Revox. If I had to pick one, Yoshikawa: http://www.yoshikawa-fishing.com/productgrouplist-210301898/Fishing_Reels.html If you go to Amazon, these reels' names are changed to Andoer, Piscifun, Skyper and DoCooler. So this is what I found while looking busy. I realize that we need in-the-field reviews but I hope this little bit of info just makes you think. And a side note, when you type these company names, make sure you are only looking for fishing stuff, other "things" will come up. Don't want your IT guys come questioning you about certain websites. LOL have a great weekend.
