  1. Trying to do as much as possible to fight the effects of ethanol. I already have been using marine formula stabil. Also have heard about installing a water separator / filter. Looking for opinions on these filters and if you guys think it would help. Thanks
  2. One of the things that attracted me to this lake is the 10HP limit. I fish a local reservoir that has a 10HP limit. I have a 16ft aluminum monark bass boat with a yamaha 9.9 4 stroke. I love lakes with HP limits and am looking for some new water to fish. Can you give me any advice as far as typical patterns for this lake in the fall? Any thing I need to watch out for? I have fished briery creek before and that lake has a tremendous amount of timber everywhere. Got my boat hung up alot at briery. Not looking for any specific places to fish. Thanks in advance for any info.
  3. Hello, Looking for info on Sandy River Reservoir in prince edward county VA. Would like to try it in the next couple of weeks. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  4. Just put a lowrance x-125 on the console of my boat. Already had a eagle 320 on tm. What will I need to adjust on these units so they wont interfere with each other? Thanks
  5. I used 1" plastic spacers that I found at my local hardware store to mount my charger and it has worked out great.
  6. High thrust has a bigger gear case. They are sometimes recommended when a boat carries a heavier than normal load. Not sure if converting a std to high thrust could be done. It would be expensive to do I would think.
  7. I have a 2005 yamaha 9.9 4s. I run a piranha prop and I am very happy with it. They are composite props. http://www.piranha.com/
  8. A friend of mine has a center console and its a great boat to bass fish out of. His boat is more of a skiff so the ride suffers but it is super stable and there is plenty of room. Plus no carpet to mess up.
  9. Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke with maybe 10 hours. Noticed today while running in test tank after oil change that water is seeping around oil plug. Original oil did not look milky. This has to be bad but I am still under warranty. Any ideas of what might be wrong?
  10. Just picked up a schumacher 15/10/2 ship and shore charger. According to the manual deep cycle batteries are to be removed from the boat before being charged. Anybody know why schumacher recommends this?
  11. you might want to check but I think minnkota recommends a 60 amp breaker for the maxxum 80. The breaker on my boat is a 50 amp manual reset and is marked "shortstop" I got it from my local marine dealer for about 10 bucks.
  12. I have a minn kota plug that is made by marinco. It was a packaged plug and receptacle and has a flip top cover. I have had it a couple of years and it is pretty good. Need to check tightness of screws as they seem to loosen over time. The receptacle is made to take 8 gauge wire but there is an adapter to allow 6 gauge.
  13. Try to contact a motorguide dealer in your area and ask them. It is probably going to be a 40 or 50 amp. A dealer will also sell the breakers. I have a manual reset small gray shortstop 50 amp on mine and it was around ten dollars.
  14. I am looking at those batteries myself. I think the are made by interstate as they look like and have the same specs.
  15. 2 friends of mine have this trolling motor and I have used them both. Compared to a cable steer the powerdrive is loud when turning and slow to respond. The holes in your boat now will not line up with a powerdrive hole pattern. The motor is quiet when running though. IMO for bass fishing a cable steer is the way to go. As far as wire size I would go with 6 gauge.
  16. Looking for ideas to hold down 3 group 24 batteries. Went from 12v to 24v trolling motor so I needed to add a battery. I had limited space to work with so I had a tray built out of ss sheet metal that will hold 3 batteries in the one tray. I need to come up with a way to secure them. Do you guys think a poly strap would hold them down? Anybody got a setup with three batteries in one tray?
  17. Good for you! Its a lot of fun watching a kid catching a nice bass.
  18. I have fished Turkey Lake a number of times both from rental boat and from shore and had success doing both. Dont hesitate to fish the bank as there are some very good areas that can be reached this way. They keep the bank mowed down well and its a easy hike. I usually carry 1 spinning rod and one casting rod. I have caught fish on a variety of methods but I usually do well with Senkos there.
  19. I am having a problem getting my fuel bulb tight. The only way I can do is to take off the connector at the motor and pump gas back into the tank and then quickly put the connector back on. The bulb will get tight then but only for one outing. The motor is a 2005 9.9 4 stroke yamaha. The fuel tank is a permanent plastic 12 gallon. I tried a new universal fuel line with a new connector and I cant even get the new one to get tight at all. The other thing is that the motor will still start even if the bulb is not tight but not near as fast if the bulb is tight. Any ideas on what I need to to do?
  20. They are neat little crafts to fish from and they work well. I friend of mine has one and uses it to float mild river sections with it. FYI samsclub has what looks like the same one for less money http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=107527
  21. Got a oddball application here I just had a new yamaha 9.9hp four stroke installed on my 16' tracker like bass boat. THe motor was installed by a authorized yamaha dealer. The dealer did a water test and was not able to get above 2500 rpms. They used the prop that came with the motor a 9-1/4 x 9 pitch. The dealer seems to think the motor will not do any more because of the weight of the boat (approx 800 to 900lbs loaded more or less) Dealer says lowest pitch prop available is an 8 and they thoought that it would not make much difference. I have seen a number of boats like mine with 9.9 HP on them and I would think that they get more rpms than 2500. The manual says operating range in 4500 to 5500 rpms. Any ideas of what I should do to get a more acceptable rpm reading? Is it possible that the boat weighs too much and the motor is doing all it will do? I know the boat is underpowered but I went with the 9.9 due to HP restrictions on the lakes I fish. Thanks
  22. I had the same problem with my 16' Monark aluminum bass boat. I had to take out the front deck of the boat. That allowed me access to the underside of the bow so I could install the nuts. Pulling the deck was not that big of a deal on my boat as the deck was carpeted then the screws were installed. If you can see the screws on you deck it might give you access as well
  23. Was wondering about charging my starting battery. I assume it is ok to leave the motor hooked up to the battery while it is charging? My charger is a 15 amp total 3 bank on board. Would I be better off installing a battery selector switch to take everything out of the loop while charging?
  24. Anybody know if the cabelas quick disconnects are waterproof?
  25. Looking to put a no slip coating on the parts of my trailer that you step on to enter the boat. I would like to go with a paint on type. I am considering the following Truck bed coating Rubberized no slip coating that cabelas / basspro sells No slip additive that you can mix with paint ie Rustolem Anybody used any of these products on trailers before? Which way should I go?
