  1. Isn't 10lb braid the diameter of 2lb monofilaments? Should I not try to match the braid diameter to the leader diameter? or does it matter? (hence why I was thinking 30lb braid initially bc it is the same diameter as 8lb Fluoro)
  2. I just got a new finesse rod, it is a 6'6'' Medium Light Triumph paired with a President. I'm wondering what type of line to spool it with. I plan on using it for drop-shot, ned rig, shakey-head, some weightless plastics, and anything that is too light for my bait casters to handle well. I'm thinking maybe 30lb yellow power pro with an 8lb test fluorocarbon leader? What do you all think? Is braid to fluoro the best for this situation? If so which brands do you suggest? Thanks!
  3. I guess braid to fluoro it is!
  4. It seems the opinions are very split between braid to fluoro and straight fluoro
  5. Weightless Super Fluke (Watermelon w/ red flake) Lipless Crank Cavitron Buzzbait
  6. I have a rage and it is up to standard St. Croix quality, paired with their customer service and warranties I would go with the rage.
  7. I am about to get a new rod dedicated to finesse teqniques (drop shot, split shot/mojo, ned rig, shakey head, wacky rig). So I am going to get a medium-light spinning rod. My question is, what would be the best type of line to spool it with? I'm thinking straight Fluorocarbon is out due to handling issues, so my options are either a good copolymer or a braid to fluoro set up. What do you guys think?
  8. I am planning on going to try it out tomorrow for the first time in years. It is so hard to find good public fishing near St. Louis! Anyway, I haven't exactly heard good things about the fishing, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips, specifically for lake 33? Or suggestions about other lakes that may be able to produce decent bass? (I am strictly catch and release)
  9. Thanks. However, I'm not so much worried about the braid to fluoro transition knot costing me sensitivity. I am more worried, that I won't be able to feel the same "tick" as a fluke or senko falls on a slack line?
  10. For years I have fished primarily with a fluorocarbon mainline on my bait caster, and for the most part was satisfied. This past year, I was able to purchase a new bait casting combo, because of this I took my old combo and spooled it with power pro for top water fishing. It was once I started using this setup, that I began to really become frustrated with the line management of Fluorocarbon on my new setup. For me Braid just handles so much better when it comes to line memory and never back lashing. Also, It casts further, is stronger, and is more sensitive on tight lines. So, now I have become very frustrated with the Fluoro setup and I am considering changing it over to PowerPro with a Fluoro leader. I use this rod mostly to fish lipless cranks, weightless senkos & flukes, and some spinnerbaits. My real concern with switching over would be that I don't want to lose the slack line sensitivity I may need when fishing with Flukes and Senkos? Can anyone give me some advice as to whether or not this will be a big issue? If I go braid I do plan on getting Hi-Vis Yellow so that watching the line will not be difficult. Should I stay with the straight flouro, or spool it with braid and a leader?
  11. I had similar problems at first, but now I can walk it much better than any other frog I have (Spro, Livetarget, and Pad Crashers). It has become my go to frog. Just keep at it, you will figure it out. And if it changes anything I have been able to walk it better with 50lb power pro.
  12. I did okay, the water looked like pudding, but I was able to catch about 8 on bright lipless cranks, and a few more on dark spinnerbaits, nothing huge. But, regardless, I still had a great time!
  13. Thanks for all the great info!
  14. I tend to hear different things on the best colors to use in muddy water, It seems that many people swear by black, but others opt for chartreuse or other bright colors?
  15. Sounds good. That is really what I wanted to hear. Any suggestions on baits? I was thinking Buzzbaits, Spinnerbaits, and maybe some loud lipless crankbaits?
  16. I live in the St. Louis area and it has been pouring as of late, but, the rain is supposed to finally stop tomorrow and I've been dying to fish. I want to head out to a couple farm ponds tomorrow morning. However, as we have gotten about 10 inches of rain in the last week, you can bet the ponds will be high and incredibly muddy. I would normally wake up at 4 AM and drive about an hour to get there. So what do you guy think. Is it worth it? Do I have any chance of actually catching fish after this much rain? Or should I just take the day to sleep in?
  17. Awesome! That is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks!
  18. I have a St. Croix Rage casting rod on which I have always used fluorocarbon as my mainline. However, I recently have become frustrated with the handling of the fluorocarbon so I am considering switching to braid as my mainline with a flouro leader. My concern is that the Rage has Pac Bay Minima guides which are steel and have no inserts. St. Croix says that they will not groove when used with braided line, however, I am not sure if I can fully trust the manufacturer. Does anyone have experience using braid with the Rage series or other rods using Pac Bay Minima's? I would really like to know if I can trust the guides to hold up to braid?
  19. So another question. What color frogs do you all like?
  20. Yeah I also like the pad crasher, it is kinda hard to walk though, but you can't beat the price and durability!
