  1. Thanks guys. I didn't want to give more influential info but I didn't catch this fish however my daughters boyfriend did. Last week I caught a 7.13 at 24.5 inches and it was no where this this fishes girth. It same length. The scales said 8.5 in this fish but I would have bet $100 it was 10! I just wanted to see what the pros thought. Thanks guys.
  2. Ok, Ive done the conversion but I just want to see what you guys think. She was 24.5 inches on the nose in length. Didn't take girth but its the fattest bass Ive ever seen not on TV lol and her back went up into an arch. alright let me know what you think she weighed. Thanks!
  3. Outstanding dink magnet. I agree. I think the 7 can be an easy 9 fairly quick with the quality of its surroundings.
  4. Yea no worries. I just didn't want anyone to think I was singling out a race. These particular Latinos keep everything. Not a race issue as we have white bucket heads also I'm just thankful I haven't seen them at this pond lol.
  5. So I have been fishing a pond since May that I have permission to take my boat in. I also have 2 other ponds that I can use the boat as well as about 5 other ponds that I bank fish. The pond that I have fished since may in the boat will yield giant bass for my area in NC. On a good day ill catch 6 fish averaging 2 pounds with the largest to date at 7 and 26" long. Since May alone I have caught a 1,2,3,4.5, 5.5 (twice) a 6 and a 7 and have hooked one (twice now) that hit my bait way harder than the largest 7 and has broken the line immediately so I know that there is an 8 plus in there. Ok, so with all other ponds combined, none of them even come close to the quality of fish in pond #1. Most all of the others yield dinks to 1 or 1.5 pounds and that is the max weight. As for the pond with the big fish. Its 2 acres and is grown up around 90% of it and Is old. Id say 40 years old. The owner gave me exclusive rights and said that no one else has permission to be fishing but heres the thing. People are fishing it. We all know how it is, its going to get fished. The thing is, if these bass are trophy size and they are then I am not sure if I want to run off the people fishing or not. Not to get into race discussion but we have a lot of Latinos here and they are the ones doing the fishing and they throw NOTHING back. I mean you can only catch so many bass from the bank. There are tons of bluegill, pumpkinseed and crappie in this pond and as far as Bass, well, Ive only caught one twice and its the one in my avatar that was 5.5. Ive caught multiple 1's 2's and 3's and have pics of each and none of them are the same fish. Should these blugill be culled out? These bass got this big like it is now without me being there. I personally think that the population and genectics are perfect. I was told the blugill were hurting the growth and would eat the new hatched bass but with the size of these Bass, I don't think I would take any of the smaller fish out, rather just keep the pressure low as possible and let it go as is? Any thoughts?
  6. I have problems on clearer days. I even tried 6 pound Line and weighted hook and Clear flouro and no better. Some days, you just get skunked. This is one of the reasons I like ponds. You don't have to load all your crap, drag boat to the lake, spend all day and come up short. Go to the pond, if you get skunked you are out maybe a couple hours.
  7. I fished one day for 3 solid and I was about to give up. I moved further to the deep for no reason at all and then BOOM! It seems that they were not on the bank but rather 20 feet off. Mid summer, hot, no rain, not sure but this big girl showed up hungry. yes, I was in a boat but still. I fished an area that I had not fished ever at this pond. 23" 6.0 on the nose
  8. 12 pound seguar Mono in Green tied in a Cinch knot and I put a little spit on it before I Cinch it up.
  9. Im sure it was my knot. I don't re-tie but I may start. Ive bent a 5/0 hook pulling that line off of a stump before so Id say it was my fail on the knot.
  10. Well thanks guys. This does make me feel better. I didn't mention the fact that just before I hooked the one eyed fish, I hooked a whale and once again panicked as he/she took the drag back to the fallen tree. I put my thumb down to slow the drag and boom, it snapped. Man, those ones who get away. Its like that one good golf shot on a crappy day of golf that keep you coming back. The tug is my drug! Have a great one!
  11. Same problem here. We have lots of "south of the borderians" and they will flat ruin a pond. They throw NOTHING back and they fish my local pond in the wee hours of the morning and leave before anyone is awake. I caught one one morning with 3 coolers on the back of his truck at 6am as I was coming to fish. When I asked him what was in the coolers he acted like he didn't speak English. I wanted to mash his mouth. But it's not my pond and the owner lives 625 miles away. I can't sit out there and watch who comes in but it really makes me angry. The bad thing is that in the corner of the pond cows come in and cool off. As they are there they urinate and drop tons of feces in the water. Then these guys eat the fish. I just don't understand.
  12. Nice work. The man put yoU on him! Prayers for a speedy recovery for him.
  13. Great posts. Bluegill and bream hit it about 6 or 7 times real soft before your brain can tell you it's s fish. Those I just let them tap on it because it's hard for them to swallow a 5/0 hook. A bass will hit it one time and it will either feel like you are hooked on a limb or you caught a falling brick on the way down. Hook sets are free. But you will get to where u can tell if he's coming up behind it or hits it from the side. It's a wonderful feeling. The tug is my drug!!
  14. So this afternoon I take the ol Coleman crawdad out. I have a true honey hole that's not accessible unless you have a boat and with the owners permission I let it rip. In June I caught a near PB of 5.5 pounds and 21 inches long. It's the fish in my profile. Since June on the same pond I've PB'd a 26" hoss and a 23" that went 6 pounds. The 5.5 I hooked in my profile was hooked in the right eye. I have no idea how I hooked him in the eye but it was with a jig. I felt awful because his eye was punctured really good and tho did my best I knew he would be blind in the right eye. Tonight was looking good. It was 7:45 and the frogs started in. I was throwing a black Texas rigged zoom trick worm with a painted black bullet sinker on a 5/0 hook weedless under a fallen tree on seguar 12 pound test on a cinch knot. Long story short I pulled in a 2.1 pounder and threw him back in. Immediately throwing back at the same tree I hooked a dream. He hammered the drag and took off straight down. I let him pull it. I've lost too many by panicking and putting my thumb on the reel and snapping the line. I got him to the boat and immediately knew that it was the one eyed 5.5. I pulled him in and measured him. Same 21" and when I weighed him I got bummed out. He was 4.5 pounds. His right eye was full of water and flat. I pulled the hook out and eased him back into the water. He swam off really soft. I was pumped but then again I was ready to go home. I know I should turn in my man card with this post but hey this fish is loosing weight because he can't be as efficient with his feeding and its my fault. Oh well at least he ain't dead on someone's wall ya know. Just had to share. Thanks for all the help on this site. It's helped me to be able to catch what I can. Thanks Guys.
  15. Do you ask permission from the golf courses or just let it rip? lol
  16. Man I thought that there would be tons of guys that fish in north myrtle. Golf course capital of the world. I don't mind sneaking in some golf courses but would rather have permission. EEEK!
  17. Ive searched this site and found a few but here is what I have found so far. Im a bass man and Need my fix while on vacation in August. Check these out near my condo. Bank fishing only. Long Pond: Looks grown up but huge. Also looks pretty swampy, NOT east access. Chapin Pond: Nearby and looks good, easy access Lake Arrowhead: Beside Chapin, looks good, easy access from bank Sandhill Pond: Beside Lake Arrowhead, easy access, looks good Dunes Lake: Huge, near all the others, looks good Lower Chesnut lake: Again, right there with the others, easy access, looks good. May go online and get a 2 week SC license. Only $11 just in case. Anyone fished these? Any other spots you may know of? Id like to hit up some golf course ponds but if these are good they should last me a week lol. Thanks guys! C
  18. Hey guys. It's HOT here. My local pond water read 89 degrees today. I wondered if it was right but a hand check off the boat said it was bath water warm lol. So while trolling around and thinking that they had to be shallow I still made my standard lap around. Sure enough, not a hent of a nibble except for some bluegill. This pond is 10 feet deep in the middle and it rarely clear but for some reason it was clear down to a foot before my lure disappeared. So I get to 3 feet of water then 2 and as my trolling motor started bumping, I parked it and slung in the trusty zoom pumpkin lizard with chartruese tail and wore them out. I think every fish in the pond was under a big bush over in 2 feet of water. Even has some cows to come in and cool off. Didn't bother the bass at all. Was a good day. Thanks to bass resource for all the stuff I've learned. I remember the days where I'd get in the tackle box and pull out a chrome rattle trap about 6 inches long just because it was my favorite lure lol. The 3 c's are where it's at.
  19. Ive caught 10 nice bass in the last 2 weeks. One 5.5 and his big brother over 6.5 on a 1/2 ounce black and blue weedless Jig from Wally world. $1.57. Also, had great luck on a Boo-ya 1/4 ounce Chartruese spinner bait. 2 big ones on that jig in stained water. Threw it up on the bank under heavy cover and both strikes were in less than a foot of water.
  20. I bagged a 2 pounder today. Biggest one id ever seen. Just was wondering. Anyone?
  21. I fish with a guy that if hes hung up from the boat in a branch, limb or fallen tree, he will blaze right up there and sound like a bull in a china store trying to retrieve a $3 lure on a small farm pond. Whats your take? Me? Ill pull hard and if it snaps, Ill remember the location and go back AFTER ive fished every ounce of the pond. This kills me! If it was 500 miles of shoreline then yes, lets get it but a 3 acre pond? CMon' man!
  22. You wont find me on an inner tube behind a boat but Im guilty when in the boat on farm ponds of not wearing one.
  23. Ok guys, there is a low pressure pond near my house. Very small. It's really a dammed up creek that's been there for years. Water is pretty clear for my parts. I guess in part to the huge creek supplying it and having good emptying. Has heavy cover. Only about 4 places to cast. 4 foot deep max on the dam end. I could count 30 bluegill on the top of the water at any place and then an occasional bass would swim by largest one in the 1.5 pound size. 3 huge mud turtles and 10 smaller pond turtles. Pond has lots of action in it for sure. I used mostly natural colors because of the clarity. Pumpkin lizard, sexy shad, then ended up throwing buzz baits, frogs etc lol The main reason for scouting it out was for my young daughter. She has zero patience and wants a fish immediately and tho I am working on this. it's tough. I'd like to try to get her more acclimated to fishing something other than a night rawer and bobber. Am I missing something? Is this creek supplying so much new food that they are just not hungry? Thanks in advance C
  24. I did but with the "hand method" but later went to pick up a scale which I did and beside the scale was a nice aluminum "fish sizer" on the rack beside it. I bought the scale but passed on the fish sizer as I have a tape measure now. The fish sizer went to 22" and I now it's after that fact but my PB would have taken up most of it. I'd say 20 inches. My first guess was 16.5 by hand and I got few saying if it was 16.5 it would be in the 2.5 lb. range. Well there's no way. I've had many to look and say minimum 5. I got a scale and tape measure now. I ain't playing no more LOL. I just hope I can't get a chance to even come close again.
