  1. Without question I much prefer the tough bite.
  2. Sponsors are looking for exposure and performance. Fish as many tournaments as you can. Small club tournaments are a good place to start especially if they are affiliated with BASS or FLW. Central Pro Am is one step up from that. Keep an entry log by date, by location and achievement; and some pics. Join a local Bass club and run for officeand or become appointed as their delegate to Federation and attend their meetings. Maximize your visability and your fishing network. When ready work up a Resume. Good Luck, C~Y
  3. There is a Guy named Dale Clemens who publishes a tutorial book "Rod Building" which is the best I have ever used. Basic and advanced. Google it up , very good investment.
  4. Outstanding work. If you can wrap as well as you can create, I would love to see your work.
  5. X_C The knob portion of the handle is not available for any reel.. Google up a schematic for that particular reel and order a handle assembly from the mfgr.
  6. weather we like it or not having a reciprocal network by lake, if allowed, is just as important as patterning and presentation if you want to be in contention. That would include local fishing reports, calls or visits to local tackle stores, and other people who have fished the lake recently.
  7. Get over the Way Point" assumptions. I have fished tournaments for well over twenty years and have never seen the "way point" phrase in any ones Tournament rules. I have seen "No discussion or communication" with any one regarding fishing for seven days prior to tournament and other unusual requirements. Tournament rules are written by who ever Sponsors the specific Tournament or Series e.g. the individual Clubs, Federations or Charities etc..
  8. Great first time results mine was a disaster :-)
  9. I use a custom built 6'6" MH fast action IMX G-LOOMIS on a Shimano Spirex Quick Fire with rear drag. and a 7' HVY G-LOOMIS IMX on a Spirex SR 2500 I use the Spirex Models so I can open the bail with my same right hand casting hand.
  10. I don't flip any more. I usually Pitch 30 lb P line with a 20 lb Fluorocarbon leader.
  11. Fire balls have been known to cause instant diarr (sp).
  12. I fish the tail end of large Chompers(Hula Grubs), and brush hogs on jigs exclusively when I fish deep brush piles at night.
  13. I have tried everything getting the usual some better than others until I tried Berkley XL. Through all line sizes it has less memory reducing line twist and spool jump than all others
  14. I do not believe the 22 lr shortage will ever get back to "the good old days" . Large ammo companies like Olin are just not going to retool and up grade expensive facilities for items with a low ROI. Olin's YTD profits today are down 8.6%. It will get back on the shelves again but at about .10 per round.
  15. Mc496, Look at exterior ballistics this way: Generally speaking Gravity pulls all objects down at the rate of about 16 ' per second, therefore bullet velocity is the major factor in effecting a bullets trajectory A 150 grain 30-30 has a muzzel velocity of 2400 f.p.s. the 30-06 150 grain bullet goes out at 2900 f.p.s. The 30-06 is by far the best long range performance. The 30-30 is further compromised because its poor ballistic coefficient with the flat nose required to keep it safe in the 30-30 tube magazine. Google the mid range trajectory specs for each and you can see the specific amount of drop at specific yardage for each. The 30-30 however is arguably the best selling deer rifle ever made because many great qualities you didn't consider.

Sure , once you us one you will always want one as they are very effective and easy to keep with you.
  17. Will it do 12 oz. full cans of Budweiser?
  18. I would use both, the SB for active and reflex fish and a dark jig with chartruese worked slow. They will know both are there.
  19. I give them a major servicing once a year. That includes: pulling all the hi speed bearings in left side plate and on the spool at the shaft, pinion and tension port with brake cleaner, blow them dry and re oil with Quantum Hot Sauce. Friction bearing areas I clean with acetone and regrease with white lithium grease. On the right side I re grease the pinion gear and main drive gear and clutch bar assembly with white lithium. Every two years I regrease the drag disks and pad with Shimano drag grease. Last I clean the level wind assembly , remove any impacted pollen and re oil with 50% transmission fluid and 50% Kroil. Half way through the season I re oil the bearings with out removing them. Some of my Chronarchs are well overs ten years old and never been replaced only added to.
  20. Very basically expect the following as designed by manufacturers: Varmint bullets are3000 f.p.s.+, designed to enter and disintegrate on impact and kill thru hydrostatic shock instantly. Thin skin Game e.g. Deer are designed to expand to about 2X caliber for a large wound channel and jacketed or bonded to retain enough weight and mass to break bone then barely exit. Heavy body/boned game e.g. elk bear Same as above except larger caliber heavier Bonded bullets Big Game Elephant , rhino etc. Solid copper, like Barnes, or hard alloy bullets with no jacket of .400 to .500 caliber for deep deep penetration and ultra high energy.
  21. K~08, To maximize the resale of a fire arm your best bet is to list it locally (KA/MO is a good gun market). You can probably sell it quicker by listing it in Savage shooters Web site, or 24hourcampfire.com, or gun broker.com but the deal will incur the cost of shipping, the hassle of having to ship it to the buyers FFL and the risk of shipping damage/loss hassle even if insured. Cabella's is well known for a good variety of firearms that sell for high retail and buys at soft wholesale. Savage are well made and very accurate rifles but not good resale value. I paid $700. for my Savage Model 16 22-250 and the best I could get for it was 395. two years later (no blemishes) I would wait until early fall (Sept) list it and re list it every other week and you may be able to get $400-$450 if patient.
  22. Black bear and Puma are no problem for a 270, I would use a Barnes bullet at 3000 f.p.s. bullet for elk.
  23. I see it in Cabellas from tome to time. Check their Web site.
  24. Attach a Pic, Mine is 8' long and needs remodeling.
  25. Here's some.
