  1. Good luck trying to buy one right now. Daughter and son in law were in a BPS 2 weeks ago shopping for a new unit. Each one they asked about was out of stock. Salesman said what he did have was a much shorter list than what he didn't have. I checked several sites on line and more were out of stock than available.
  2. You for sure remember it better that way.
  3. Started bass fishing in 1977 and most of what I learned came from many hours on the water with a few tips from a some much more experienced anglers and BassMasters magazine. That being said, many new ideas and ways to fish can be found on many sites online and I really enjoy trying some of them out but always return to my roots, spinnerbait, T-rigged worm, cranks and topwater. Biggest thing I have learned on the internet is the action or lack thereof of many baits. So much info so little time.
  4. You would think being out on the water would be the safest spot to be. The ramps I use have an honor box to drop you money in and seldom see anyone at the marina but I only fish during the week since retirement.
  5. I use cheap mono for backing so I don't have to fill it up the first time with braid. If it's not causing a problem now just splice on and go.
  6. On my 4th aluminum bass boat and the last 2 have been Xpress, an 2001 X54 and now an 2012 X17 with a 115 Yamaha. Love the ride and fishability and its very quick to plane with top speed of 53. Next and maybe last will be an X18 with 150. Vexus are really nice looking boats but appear to be underpowered for their size. Have fished out of my buddies Ranger 198P with a 150 Merc(max HP) , big boat, good ride and nice finish as you would expect from Ranger but it is also underpowered with top speed of 54. Many good boats out there but you just have to find what best fits your needs and budget. As for me, I choose Xpress.
  7. North/central Alabama would be a great spot for fishing and hunting. Love my Ms. gulf coast, lived here 50+ years, but it's just to hot and humid for me from June through Sept.
  8. Have cheap mono as backing on all my reels with braid on them so braid to braid should not be a problem. Agree with the earlier post on all points except I use 30# and can pick out most professional overruns but am considering moving up to 40# due to issues with the line digging in at times.
  9. Have had had Cabelas 3500 for about 6 years now and really like it, comfortable enough to wear all day. Only complaint is the hook for the kill switch is on the left side meaning the lanyard is pulled across your body. Fairly easy to rearm also.
  10. Check out Academy, only need 25$ order for free shipping.
  11. About 6 months into 2 Everstart Maxx 29 batteries now. They seem to be holding up well as a replacement for the Deka Master Marine batteries that came with my boat. Those were great batteries and would have gone that route again but 40$ per battery coast difference and needing them ASAP, went with the Everstart Maxx.
  12. For the price of those at tackle warehouse, why bother? They work great and I doubt that a DIY would be as cheap. That being said, 2" wide webbing and Velcro would be my best guess.
  13. You may want to move a bit farther north and get up into the Delta area above I-10. Not my personal favorite but I have fished the Delta quite a few times and there is a lot of water to fish. Coastal rivers are much different than big lakes and reservoirs with tides having a major impact on the fish. Never heard of Fowl River being a prime bass location, Dog River not much better. One more thing, Snagless Sally in the Brusier color(black, blue, purple) or chartreuse/white will catch you some fish.
  14. Have wear prescription Costa's with gray lens and they were not cheap,500+, but well worth the investment for me. Also have a pair of Costa C-Mates which have the 1.75 bifocal in them that I got dirt cheap and wear them for yard work. The difference between the 20-30 dollar glasses which I wore for many years and the high end, 150+ dollars ones is noticeable to me but may not be worth it to everyone. I will say this, I do take much better care of my glasses now that I have a sizable investment in them.
  15. Would love to spend a day fishing with Hank, Shaw or Jimmy Houston. They appear to be really down to earth, kind of like your best fishing buddy. Not to say others are not but most are a bit more serious. Gerald Swindle, I'd just ride with a tape recorder so I could laugh for weeks after.
  16. Don't get that hard water on the Ms. coast but we have only had a handful of days that were cold for our area. Did a little research and found 1 night where the water temps on our river system that I fish dropped below 50 and that was 49.5, usually have low to mid 40's for several weeks, currently 65 degrees. I have fished most of this fall and winter in short sleeve shirts with a jacket for the early morning ride and enjoyed every minute of it.
  17. Paint most of mine but only because I want to, don't really think the fish care. Soak in vinegar for a few minutes, rinse and dry, then spray with cheap paint mainly black but did some in shades of green for watermelon or green pumpkin. Just a way to kill some time and much cheaper than buying them already painted.
  18. 1. Become more organized in the boat and home 2. Fish more 3. Buy less, use some of the tons of lures I already have 4. Have fun and enjoy the time on the water 5. Go back to my younger days and listen to what the fish are trying to tell me and not force them to eat what I want them to
  19. Caught my first bass in 1977 at the age of 23. Not stopped since so 39 years.
  20. Two weeks to go until I retire after 41+ years and have enough time off to be done now. Actually picked the date to get in the best of Fall fishing where I live. My plan is to: 1. Never be on the water on a week end, 2. Only fish if the conditions are favorable, not to hot or freezing cold 3. Fish when I want to for as long or short as I want 4. Enjoy my time on the water with my long time fishing partner who beat me out by 3 months!! Fishing has always been my passion, maybe not as much as in my youth but it's what I have always done and will continue to do as long as I'm able. Just will be on my terms now.

  22. I have been using Power Pro for about 5 years and have no problem recommending it to my friends.
  23. Kick N Bass has worked well for me for quite a few years now. Have been fishing a few times when I honestly believe it made a difference in the numbers of fish I caught compared to the other guy in the boat. Mainly a confidence thing but why take a chance.
  24. I have been using a Snagless Sally for 30 years or more to catch bass all around the southeast but they seem to work best in the costal rivers that I love to fish. Caught many thousands of bass on them through the years.
  25. Towed my 2002 Xpress X54/F100 Yamaha for the first time last weekend with my birthday present the wife went and bought for me , a 2007 GMC Sierra 4.3 V-6 automatic. Did a very good job.
