  1. I've been skunked plenty of times over the years. I fish the river quite a bit also, so when you can't catch'em in the river, it's pretty bad. I was on a pretty good roll during '06, and caught fish every time out...until December. I zeroed on a few trips during that month! Tough on the old ego!

Good job! I can't buy a bite on a spinnerbait right now. Looking forward to March and April, when I can start throwing them again.
  3. The super fluke is a killer here in my neck of the woods(Va.). I only use 2 colors(though I've probably used them all at one point). Pearl and silver rainbow are my top choices. I begin using these baits in the latter stages of the pre-spawn, and keep fishing them till late fall. I fish them weightless and keep'em moving along at a pretty fast clip, rarely pausing for more than a couple seconds. This however, is not nearly the only effective way. These baits are extremely versatile, and I've caught fish on all kinds of different retrieves. One thing in particular that I love about soft plastic jerkbaits is how they catch really big fish, along with numbers. I recommend trying all suggested tips you get from this thread and see which ones produce best for you on your waters. Good luck!
  4. I'm a southpaw so the rod is always in my left hand anyway. Only flipping I do around these parts is when I'm practicing in the driveway. ;D
  5. Bugman, I have that very same ST Croix Premier 7'MF. I use mine for spinnerbaits and the like. Would not recommend this rod for pitching/flipping. I also have a MHF ST Croix Premier that I pitch jigs with. Works great! ST Croix's MH model rods should do fine for any pitching or flipping you will be doing. Now just decide whether to go with a 6'6" or another 7' in the MH.
  6. I won't go into the details, but '06 was a great year of fishing for me. I truly was blessed. You guys were a big part of it. Many thanks.
  7. Fishing at night is another option for high pressured water. I know it's winter time now, but here in Va. the summer months is when the fish are really being pressured, and that's the time to clock in for the night shift.
  8. Man!! Shorts, short sleeves...Y'all got it made! Hey, it's awesome that all you guys got together. Very, very cool. Wish I could have been there.
  9. The pleasure was all mine, believe me! See you soon.

Welcome to the boards! The stuff you will learn here will bring you much success in 2007. Good luck on that 10 pounder!
  11. Dude! Great looking place you fish. Nice and secluded looking. Great job to you and your buds on those hawgs. That mud turtle is awesome.
  12. Good looking baits! I am VERY interested in your thoughts on this model after you spend some time fishing it. Please, keep us posted.
  13. Got any bridge pilings around that lake that you can fish? Try a 4" finesse worm or 3" tube on a drop shot. An 1/8oz jig crawled slowly along the bottom is another option, or slow roll a single colorado bladed spinnerbait. Good luck and keep after it!

That's some fine picture taking. Nice bass! Congratulations on your first Senko bass. That 5" model in greenpumpkin is a good one!
  15. Hello members! Today I had the pleasure of fishing with my favorite moderator(no offense to RW, LBH and Fluke ). Fivebasslimit drove down this morning to meet up with me for a little fishing on the New River. Before today, I had only known Scott through his posts and our ongoing personal messages. He showed up here in my hometown at 7am and we were fishing our first spot by 7:30am. Let me brag on him a little so you guys can appreciate what a first rate fishing partner he is. He showed up right on time and ready for whatever might come. He's easy going, laid back and he knows his fishing. I took him to stretches of river that he was unfamiliar with, but he dialed right in and started catching bass right away. Great guy, excellent fisherman and I look forward to many more outings with him. OK...I've embarrassed him long enough! Now about our trip. We were faced with 40 degree water temps. and heavy stain. River was high and rising. I honestly can't remember how many smallies Scott and I caught. I'm pretty sure it was just under 20. I fished with pig-n-jigs and a jerkbait, while Scott dragged a crank through every spot reachable. He really showed me a thing or two about cold water cranking! Great guy to fish with, and if you ever have the opportunity to go with him, jump on it. Here's just a few of photos from our trip... Fivebasslimit with a nice smallie Me(Craw) with a jerkbait eating bronzeback FBL workin' that crank Pig-n-jig pays off This smallie acted like a 5 pounder! Rising water, wind and my trolling motor battery giving out put an end to the day just before noon. I had a great time with Scott and many thanks to him.

I don't ever soak my baits overnight but not because there's anything wrong with it. I always use Bang Garlic, in the aerosol spray can, and I just give my bait a quick spray whenever I think I need to.
  17. I've got no problems with anyone wanting to listen to music while they fish. I myself, cannot zone in on my fishing while listening to my ipod. It just messes up my rhythm or something. I don't really understand why. I drive, work and workout to music with no problem, but just can't fish up to my skill level when wearing my headphones. Go figure.

That's awesome! Gotta feel good to catch all those fish. I'm glad the Senko worked for you along with your other baits. That pickerel is to cute!! Congratulations on your success.

Well, I said I wouldn't post more pics. until I caught something big. Here's a couple from today. Got this beast on a pig-n-jig. Caught this beauty on a jerkbait Caught lots of smallies today and had a ball. I'm hoping my partner and I can really work them over tomorrow.

They're quality baits for sure, and I've caught lots of fish on them. It's unfortunate that the price is so high, but if that's how it has to be, I'll just have to keep paying the high price. I love these baits!

    5" Senkos!!

Thanks for the kind words guys. This is the same river I caught all my recently posted fish from. Behind me is the Claytor Lake Dam. Lots of bronzebacks in this system. Some nice largemouth to, but they're elusive. Fivebass, I could probably use a hand sore lippin' a few on the sabbath.
  23. I think she looks like country singer, Sarah Evans. Tell her congratulations on her first bass.

Still playin' with my new camera. You guys are probably getting tired of looking at my ugly mug, so this is my last pic. till I catch something enormous. I thought the background in this shot was pretty cool.
  25. It's hard to nail it down to only one book. Lots of great stuff out there in print. I'll recommend one in particular that really helped me out years ago. BASS STRATEGIES by Kevin VamDam
