  1. Excellent answer. In this particular case I was fishing outside weed and pad edges from shore. Once I would set the hook, the fish would head straight to the pads. I would keep my rod high and many times while trying to skate them over the pads they would fall back down into the pads. It was hilarious seeing just a fish tail sticking out of a thick bed of pads. Most of my fishing from my kayak will be casting from a cleared spot to a weed/ pad edge so I think I'll be alright with 12 lb. if I need to hit little pockets I can just punch or fish weighless on my dobyns 705
  2. Shall I tell my wife I need a new rod? LOL. I'm going to see how 12 lb works to start. My 6'8 LTB MF is going to be used for jerkbaits, finesse jigs, light t-rigs and maybe shakey heads already and it's hard balancing multiple techniques on the same rod.
  3. Yeah. I have a 6'8 MF LTB that I'll use for this once I get my new reel. I've been using a silvermax on it with braid and it is a pain to throw baits weightless.
  4. Well, that answered my question and then some. I actually watched this twice before but I forgot all the specs. Thanks again! The main thing I was worried about was the braid inhibiting the action of a weightless senko. I have a medium action rod I might try with 12 lb flouro before I go the braid route for the ML rod. Thanks for the help!
  5. Does that perform well around pads? My concern would be 3-5 pound bass around the pads.
  6. I got on some fish today at a small lake. It's very pressured, but recently since 3/4 is covered in lily pads, I've had the place to myself. The only thing I could get bit on was a senko in the 3-5 " range. I landed 8 bass and lost a few more. My setup is an 6'9" Avid X MLXF on 8 lb flouro. I basically cast into little openings/ lily pad weed points and winch out 1-2 lb fish, and skate them along the pads keep my rod as high as I possibly can. I use this setup for drop shotting and jerkbaits, but I could always spool up with flouro again in the early spring when I typically use jerkbaits. Would a braid in the 10-15 lb test range be better suited for this, or should I just stick with what I have?
  7. I guess I could try it. I always use one for spinnerbaits, but I never thought I needed one for a buzzbait since I had pretty good luck without them so far. The first fish I lost yesterday could've been my PB. Then I lost another one on a buzzbait and my final fish was lost on a crank .It was one of those days were everything went wrong (for me), starting with the launch we wanted to use being closed... My buddy caught his PB which was 1 ounce more than my PB, I'm so competitive that I was ticked the whole way home. It's on now...
  8. I went fishing for a few hours this morning and was using my buzz bait which works particularly well at this lake. I haven't missed a buzz bait fish this year, but I just lost two today. Most of the time with buzz baits, I've just been getting a "swirl" just before the bass strikes. Today, the bass were jumping out of the water for it like they sometimes do with a frog or spook. The one bass seemed to smack the buzz bait into the air without really taking the bait good. I used a GoPro and you can even see my rod tip spring back and forth while the bass was still aerial, which indicated to me that the bass lost it in the air before I would've even set the hook. Could I have done anything different after losing the first fish? (alter presentation, color, technique, etc.) Location: slop bay, all bass were on points of lily pad clusters. Depth: 2-5 ft Water 79-80 degrees surface temp, fairly calm Weather- Partly cloudy Wind- 3-5 mph * Also, I was using a 7'4 mojo bass MM with 12lb copoly with all-black 3/8 oz buzz bait.
  9. My Dad taught me the basics of fishing, but he is a trout guy. He fly fishes and is pretty good at it and so am I. I'm going to say that YouTube, Bassresource, and trial and error on the water made me a better bass fisherman. I'm probably twice as good this year as I was last year, and I hope to keep improving at that rate for quite a long time. If it weren't for being able to ask a million questions on BassResource, there would've been A LOT more error and a much harder learning curve.
  10. No Problem. Let me know what you decide on and how it works out.
  11. I have a 6'9 MLXF avid X spinning that works great for all of these. I'm sure a mojo bass would do just as well and fit into your price range. I mostly fish larger rivers, so like others have said, you may need a rod in the 6'3 -6'6 range. You could also experiment between 6-8 lb test and see what you think works best.
  12. I've been using 12lb copolymer this season and last. It has worked out really well for me. I use it for buzzbaits and crankbaits on a MM glass rod. I have also not missed one buzzbait fish this year so it's the perfect combo in my eyes.
  13. Rod: 7'4" Mojo bass glass MM Reel: Revo SX Line: 12 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid Lure: 3/8 oz Black/Black Cavitron Buzzbait Weight: 5lb 4oz your pb's put mine to shame
  14. With my recent promotion, my wife hasn't complained too much in the $300/month range. I typically do $100 or so per month, even when I only need $20 worth of gear. I mean you're just missing out if you don't spend the extra money to get the free shipping right? My wife calls me a fishing nerd, but who cares...
  15. I would even go further and say even if your a smaller guy, don't invest in a cheap kayak. I bought a 350 dollar perception sport and I'm 5'10. I complained about it every season until I got my predator MX. I can finally fish... And it just so happens that I got my PB out of this kayak which is my first year using it.
  16. So I looked up the Armilo line. It says it's ideal for topwater as well, which definitely piques my interest. My concern is if it would float, wouldn't that make it much more difficult for suspending jerk baits to suspend?
  17. So... let's just say hypothetically , you wanted to fish jerk baits (110's & HJ10-12's) and light T-rigs. Would you choose #12 tatsu, #12 abrasx, or braid with a flouro leader? I don't have enough experience with this stuff, so I'm trying to narrow this down so I can only test a few different combinations.
  18. In your opinion, is Tatsu worth 2x the price of abrasx? I don't know if I can live with myself to buy such an expensive line. Maybe a happy medium would be to spool 40-60 percent with a cheap mono backing...
  19. OK, I have a 8lb spinning set-up for lighter jerkbaits. I was thinking 12 lb would be good so long as it didn't affect the action too much.
  20. Yeah this is a baitcaster. I know what you mean, I try not to run higher than 8 lb flouro on my spinning gear.
  21. Do you use that for Jigs and T-rigs too? When I river fish I could use the abrasion resistance of the fluorocarbon, that's why I was thinking flouro.
  22. I recently purchased a St. Croix LTB MF 6'8". I fish out of a kayak, so I figured this rod would be a good all around rod for pretty much everything except for cranks. I currently have been using it on 30 lb braid, but once I start fishing jerk baits again, I will want to spool with some flouro, but I also want to use it for finesse jigs and light T-rigs. What is the heaviest flouro I could get away with without hurting the action of the jerkbaits, while also using the lightest line to effectively fish t-rigs and finesse jigs? I was thinking 12-14. Thanks in advance!
  23. Yeah, I just re-read your OP. Sorry about that
  24. Try trimming the skirt down to about the same length as the frog. This seemed to help a bit with the walking, I don't think that would help the bait from falling over to one side though...
  25. I would call Abu customer service and see what they recommend. This is a new reel I'm guessing?
