  1. How do you think the mojo bass MH moderate in 7'8" would do? At that price I could probably get lower geared reel as well. Would that be the best of both worlds?
  2. Ok, that makes sense. It's just inconsistent throughout lure makers. I'm used to seeing 5-7ft as an example, but technically it would be 0-7 ft. Thanks for the input.
  3. I looked at the legend glass crank rods before. I'll pay up to $300 dollars for a good rod when I need sensitivity, but it kills me to think of paying close to that for a crankbait rod, even though I probably use crankbaits just as much. I'm not sure why that is. I'll see if I can locate some info on the skeet Reese SR705R. Thank you for the help!
  4. What is the deal with this crank? It's a matzuo that I've never used and bought a few years back. What's up with the with the 0-14' depth spec? Is it a sinking lure or do they not want to commit to a specific depth because of all the factors that affecting a lures diving depth?
  5. Thanks Tom. What would rod action and power would you recommend using?
  6. Noted. I may try out my 7' MHF with a lower geared reel and see how that does. Then I will see if I want to go longer than 7'. Thanks!
  7. are you talking the champ 705cb? I don't think I want to drop another 200+ for a rod I don't anticipate to use often. I'm liking the price of the fury. Are you talking about this reel in 5.6:1?
  8. I'm assuming any reel in the 5.1 - 5.4:1 range would suffice? I was looking at the lews super duty and the revo winch. They both look like descent reels and I'm super familiar with Abu, so I'd probably take that route, all else being equal.
  9. I started to use some DT-10's - 16's this past summer. I was using a Mojo Bass 7'4 MM glass rod with a Revo SX in 6.4:1. I'm trying to be as economical as possible since I don't deep crank often, so which factor would be the most critical for effective and efficient deep cranking? Is it the reel (gear ratio) or is it the rod (power, action, length, combo of all?) My 7'4 mojo bass rod is rated up to 3/4 oz which it seems to handle fairly well, but my arms do get very fatigued using my current setup for just a few hours. I'd really hate to get a dedicated rod and reel for this, since I probably deep crank less than 10 percent of the time, but I wouldn't be opposed to buying just a new reel or new rod for this application.

I agree. It definitely has it's pro's/con's, sometimes it's good to be forced to slow down and fish an area. Other times you need to keep moving and cover lots of water. I think about all the bonus fish I could catch if I could paddle and cast. I plan on purchasing a bass boat in the next couple years, but some of the bays that I fish will definitely be more productive out of a 'yak. So IMO, both can be productive under the correct circumstances.

I've fished in a bass boat only several times in my life, but if I were to guess, I would say because you can cover much more water. When I think about how much time I waste paddling from spot to spot and repositioning my kayak in the wind this definitely makes me less productive as opposed to sitting on a trolling motor and not having to worry about it as much. Every time I'm making an adjustment in my kayak paddling with one hand I just wasted another opportunity to catch a fish. On the other hand, I can take my kayak into the thickest vegetation that some bass boats can't even explore... so it's a trade off I guess.

My buddy usually tags along, so I can usually get some descent pictures. If he would've went, he would've said that should've been his fish because he was just about to cast there... This has been my first year in my new kayak, it's so much fun. It's amazing how much better you can perform once you can go to the fish, instead of waiting for the fish to come to you when fishing from shore. I fish a 3,000 acre reservoir but, now that I have some idea of what to look for, I'm able to eliminate dead water A LOT quicker than I used to.

In order to stay in compliance with the KISS method...I will have to draw the line at the selfie stick...even though I could borrow my Wife's....

She wasn't very skinny, but not fat by any means. I didn't get a length either since I was by myself and didn't want to keep her out of the water too long. I still haven't mastered the selfie fish pic yet.

I fished all morning with the water temps in the high 40s. Around noon, the sun came out and I was able land a few good bass. My best came on a red lipless crank: I thought for sure she was my PB, but 4 lb 9 oz.... Either way, it was beautiful out and I saw tons of deer. This is the first year I didn't put the rods away and pull the bow out. I kinda like this new routine.
  16. Does anyone have a recent water temp for Lake Arthur? I haven't been there for a few weeks, and the surface temp was dancing around 55-59 degrees last time. I'm just wondering if it's worth my time going up there this week or if I should target some SM.
  17. Next time you see shad busting on the surface, try a topwater bait and see what happens. I've had a lot of luck with spooks and buzzbaits this year. I like the river 2 sea rover 128, it has a great walking action. It doesn't just catch big fish either, I've caught many 1.5-2 lb fish on this thing.
  18. How did the 175 perform with the 9.9 out of curiosity?
  19. I tried it out. Instead of wasting your time and mine with a review, I'll just tell you my experience with it. I went to a small local lake. I hooked up the giant bobber to 30 pound braid on a MHF ROD. I went to cast about 10 yards and noticed the whole rod flex from the 3 oz fish finder. Like a meteor crashing down to earth, my deeper smarter fish finder crashed into the water. I picked up my phone and noticed how annoying it was to hold a phone, look at the screen, and reel at the same time. The fish finder froze twice. I then put my phone away, cut the line, put the bobber away, and tied on the spinner bait. I caught 8 fish in a couple hours and sent the bobber back to amazon. -THE END-
  20. I don't fish the nock, but just out of curiosity, what has the water temperature been?
  21. Yeah. He is way ahead of me when I was 15.
  22. LOL yeah I'm following, I just though it was funny.
  23. crawls and crackbaits?
  24. I'm curious if anyone has one of these. My wife bought me one yesterday. It seems like it would be nice to use on lakes that aren't accessible by boat. Any opinions on this? Any tips on how to use it more efficiently? Has it helped to map out smaller waters that don't allow boats? I'm hoping to get out and give it a try this weekend.
  25. It would be visual if anything. If you are using a smaller diameter line, there would be a lesser chance that the fish would see the line. Even that is subjective unless you are using rope. The bait that you are working would have a much greater effect on the fish's lateral line.
