  1. It has a smaller frame like the MGX but it is aluminum, while having a shallower spool than the STX. Looks like an interesting reel but I'm going the Curado 70HG route for my next flip/pitch reel.
  2. On the curado 200 I just set it on 1 brake and didn't touch the external centrifugal adjustment. It worked just fine for 1/2 oz lipless cranks. I will probably mess around with the adjustments more when I'm throwing sub 3/8 oz baits.
  3. Did not know that! I guess that's what I get for assuming...I literally just tried my first Curado 200 last weekend. What would the Pro's/Con's be for an extra adjustment on the centrifugal brake VS. mag + centrifugal?
  4. I like Revo Baitcasting reels (hate the spinning) and I only have one Curado (200I) which might not be much to compare to. I'm very impressed with the Curado but it depends what you are looking for. The Revo STX would be more inline with the Curado 70 than the ALX and all have different spool capacitys if that matters to you. The REVO stx and the Curado 70 have centrifugal brakes and magnetic brakes, while the ALX has magtrax which is basically just a magnetic brake like on the REVO SX but the ALX's spool is obviously lighter so I would assume can cast lighter baits much better than the SX which struggles under 3/8 oz. If I had to pick one I would probably pick the Curado 70, but if you do go the ALX route, let me know how it is because I'd be very interested in the reel's performance. Do what you want to do, I've had issues with Abu and it's too early to tell with Shimano, but most from the site are going to tell you to go with Shimano. Only you know what you want. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try my best to help you out. * also, define what "light" is in ounces and you might get a totally difference answer.
  5. There's just something about catching a fish on a jig. It's became my favorite "big" fish lure. Love seeing the pictures of them too, it just seems so much more meaningful on a jig. Cool pic.
  6. The 6th sense 70 shimmies on the fall. I've never used a RES but I'm just following orders as per your instructions.
  7. @Dwight Hottle any action up north yet?
  8. After a 2.5 month hibernation, I went out on a small local lake following a 2 day warming trend. Water temp was still 39 degrees in the shallows but I was more interested in trying out my first curado, and my new dobyns champ xp glass rod. It ended up being a really fun time. I tried jerkbaits and drop shot at first from about 5-15 feet for the first hour. I didn't have any luck so I switched to a silent lipless crank in a muted crawfish color. I found a sprig of green with the lipless, so I counted it down to the same depth and caught a small average fish, typical for this lake. I cast again with the lipless to the same spot and picked another one up. I noticed that both bass were wearing crawfish lipstick, so after another 15 minutes with no more luck I switched to a bitsy bug in GP with a chunk trailer. In this small bit of grass that I found, I was able to pick up 7 more small fish in the next hour. I didn't catch anything big but man it felt good to get back on the water.
  9. I'll have to give that a try. I've heard that gun oil will make a primer inert but I've never tried it. I've never heard to use gun powder for fertilizer, that is interesting.
  10. When you seat the primers sideways, they don't clear the shell holder unless you smash the primer down. I usually take a pair of vice-grips and pry the case off. What die do you use to remove the upside down primers? I have a resizing and decapper die which doesn't seam safe to use on the charged end of a primer. I used to have a single stage press and would hand-prime all of my cases with the Lee autoprime. The carpet installers stole about $700 of reloading gear from my basement, so that's when I upgraded to the RCBS.
  11. I bought an RCBS turret press about a year ago, they accept all standard shell holders but the Lee shell holder that I use, isn't quite up to the specs of the RCBS. Long story short, there is a sweet spot for aligning the primers to seat properly. Until I got this down, I ruined dozens of cases with upside down primers and sideways seated primers.
  12. Aren't you supposed to seat the primers the other way?? LOL
  13. " USA AND CANADA: Abu Garcia reels are covered against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from date of purchase and rods for three (3) years from date of purchase. "
  14. USMC Vet- Sergeant Small documentary being made about my unit if anyone is interested. FYI- The music is horrible: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqPK-DgRphQ9_xcPVvrhD4w
  15. Next years model is rumored to be 22+3... I would go with the pro max. I would check out TW. They have a sale on select revos right now. You may be able to pick one for similar pricing, plus get a lot more reel for the money.
  16. The 6th sense crush 50x is currently my favorite squarebill. I've caught some nice fish on it this year on weedlines. Every 50x I've tied on has run true out of the box. There was only one that required a little bit of tuning, but I smacked it off of wood, concrete, rocks, etc. They are a little pricey, but definitely a more affordable premium bait.
  17. TW's Black friday, 25 days of Christmas sale, now select revo's on sale, 20-25%....they are killing me! You can pick up a premier for 229.98. That's a heck of a deal if anyone is interested
  18. I just received an ice rod for Christmas...so I guess I'm learning to ice fish. My Dad used to get out on the ice a lot, so I'll bring him along to show me the ropes!
  19. It's nice to see some people still catching fish. I don't know if I can hold out until March...I may have to give ice fishing a try this year.
  20. Too late either way, but foods that require refrigeration must stay below 40 degrees to reduce the amount of bacteria. 12 hours is a long time to not refrigerate. Just use that as a guide next time.
  21. The first two weeks of no fishing was manageable. I don't think I can wait until ice out, which I hope comes really early this year.
  22. Oakleys- frames don't break under normal use, most of the lenses offer you great protection and great clarity- think of a heavy piece of lead with a hook flying towards your eye. My opinions might be a little biased because I think of quality sunglasses ranked by the following categories and in this order: safety, clarity, comfort. I'm not saying go Oakley, but at least ask the Costa guys why they are better, because I haven't seen anything definitive yet. Here is a impact test comparing Oakley's and some other high end glasses. I'm not saying the video isn't biased or is 100 % accurate, but it shows you the difference between ballistic and non-ballistic lenses.
  23. Those would do the trick. I would recommend not going with the black irridium lenses. They are nice in the bright sun of the summer, but it's hard to wear them in low light conditions. I would say the most important aspect of a pair of sunglasses is that they are used all the time on the water. The last thing you want is a 1/2 oz jig flying back at your exposed eye. The secondary benefit is that it cuts the glare off of the water.
  24. I improved my jig fishing this year. I now have one tied on all year long. Pitching a jig in a laydown, weeds, or lily pads is so much fun. I've caught more 3+ pound fish this year than I ever have before. It's so rewarding to notice something "different" about your line, reel up the slack, set the hook and have a bass on the end of your line. In 2017 I plan on honing my skills with football jigs. Still haven't had much luck with them, although I haven't used them much either.
  25. Thanks. I can see why people might put a little grease on the pins to secure them in the housing. That pretty tedious trying to get all 8 in the housing before putting the sleeve on.
