  1. I can't say that I've ever caught a smallmouth. Are they in the same lakes that Largemouth are in? I tell you one thing, some of the LMB that I've pulled out I wouldnt trade for anything. Legendary fights.
  2. It all has to do with sun penetration, like a fish "sun tan" if you will. The more sun penetration, the darker the fish. In muddier water, less sun penetration, the fish is more pale... lighter in color.
  3. Weeds! Vegetation! Any kind of plant life you can find, there's most likely fish there.
  4. I'm not familiar with the ways of the crankbait. I fish a rat-l-trap here and there, but not the same as a DT. I just purchased a Rapala DT-4 and had some questions. 1. How often do these lures get hung up? 2. What can I do to avoid hang ups? 3. Any tips/techniques I should know? 4. Anything else you can tell me would be great. Thanks, - Aaron
  5. Pops did. I was 4. Don't really remember, but I've got a picture of me when I was that age with my first bass. Thanks Dad
  6. bout 40 acres. I've fished this lake all my life, probably 3-4 days a week year-round. Trust me, I've mastered it. I'll outfish anybody on the lake anyday, fishing the bank!
  7. Caught 43 largemouth in 3 hours at a new spot that I found in the boonies. I'll be going back soon. If anybody lives near Jefferson City, Missouri... PM me and I'll clue you in on its location. Click here to read full story http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1156115822
  8. I fish with one other guy, or I go alone. I referred him to this forum actually. Siquaba is his forum name.
  9. same way a snake does. No eyelids, doesnt matter. They still sleep. They just do it with their eyes open the whole time so it appears they're not.
  10. Yea, siquaba is my fishin buddy. Its not a lie people. Dude catches like 3X as many fish as I do and I'm throwin $10 lures. Its pretty crazy to watch.
  11. The wind doesnt stop me either. Fish a smaller body of water. Most smaller farm ponds and small lakes i go to have really choppy water in the middle of the lake..... I fish banks anyway. Most of my water is always a little more calm.
  12. I'm sorry man. :-/ I'm only 21 and have been bass fishing since I could walk. Can't imagine a life without fishing.
  13. right here.
  14. I've used a Black 3/8oz. Booyah Buzz for the past 2 months and smash on bass every day! My average has gone up to about 16 fish a day! Killer bait!
  15. Bass Pro! You haven't seen anything until you've been the BPS headquarters in Springfield, Missouri. Best store on the planet, hands down.
  16. Your solution is here my friend... http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=61656&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults
  17. where do you get your tackle? whats your favorite site to order from?
  18. shade. under pads, trees, weeds, whatever. If the suns out, chances are they are going to be in shade. If its cloudy, fish with a spinnerbait or crankbait, b/c the fish are most likely roaming. A faster bait will help you locate them faster.
  19. Shaking technique works on a lot more worms than you'd think. Any worm that will sit on the bottom with its tail up toward the surface, can shake. Let it sit, then shake it just bairly for a few seconds. Then jerk to make it hop a few inches/feet and try again. Good technique.
  20. When fishing t-rigged, set the hook same as you would a topwater frog. Fish with your rod up, then when the fish strikes, drop you rod tip, and when you feel it on the line... set the hook upward.
  21. Bubbles good. Fish rely on sound and bubble trail to find bait on topwater. Like O'boy said, the more bubbles the better. Oh, and Larry the Cable guy is dumb.
  22. On really sunny days like the one described, try to find the shade.... thats where the fish are. If shade in high in demand, fish deep. Throw a fat ika, or a nice plastic craw. If you find the shade, worm it.
  23. Sorry man... I don't really agree with that. I've caught quite a few fish while they were suspending. You have better luck catching these "suspedies," as you put them, on cloudy days... but they're not impossible to catch on sunny days. I'm from Missouri, and even on the hottest days here, you can still pull decent fish out of the water. First off, most fish come UP for food. Not too many go down, unless their sitting close to the bottom. I believe that the conditions of that day determine how far a fish will actually come up for the bait. Fish don't like the sun, especially on those hot summer days we all love. When the suns out and beaming down, thats when you fish lower (4-5 feet under surface.) On cloudy days, I don't care if they're suspended or not, throw topwater. Thats why you get those explosive strikes 30 feet out from the bank. They're coming up from suspended waters and hitting it hard. My most affective ways of pullin them out while suspsending is either a black booyah 3/8 buzzbait, a nice looking rattle trap or a jewel 1/2 "jolt" spinnerbait (single colorado blade is huge, lots of vibration.) Rattle Trap on those sunny days, and buzzbait or spinnerbait (prefer buzz) ran about 4-5 feet under the surface on cloudy days all kill. Best technique for all is just to run them slower than usual, but not too slow.
