Good soft body swimbaits
I have seen these recommended but I haven't tried them. Rage Swimmer Smash Tail Smash-Tech Smash Tail Jr I use the Reaction innovations Big Dipper, Little Dipper, and Skinny dipper baits when I put the Keitech down or run out of them. They have good tail movement and seem to be a little tougher.

Jig tips?
Are you modifying the weed guard? I don't cut the guards on mine and they work fine. I fish with forum sponsored SeibertOutdoors jigs and have lost a few but caught way more fish than I've lost jigs. The best part of using his jigs is the quality of jig for the price.

I haven't changed the boards on mine yet but when I do it will be at the lake in the parking lot. I can get everything ready have all the tools and hot batteries for the cordless waiting. Having a friend to help should speed things up as well. I also have seen a video or two of others doing the same. As for changing to roller bunks i have no clue maybe someone else can help.- Ready for my next United Airlines Flight
Exactly.^^^ I see a lot of excuses for those who think the Doc was done wrong or that the airline was wrong. It really smells of a lot of other things going on in society that are backwards. The overbooking has been a part of flying for years now one snowflake gets what he deserves, he broke the standing rule in place for years, and some people want to blame the airline because he was not following what he agreed to so we punish the cop and the airline. Yeeeeaaahhhh If you don't like the airline or the rules don't buy a ticket. Once you buy the ticket comply with what you signed up for period! While we are bashing the airline for their conduct I felt it only right we give a shout out to DR. DAVID DAO- Top 5 hardbaits

I have a blast tossing a white spinnbait into a school of stripers. Hang on! Every cast one will try to kill it. I fish spinner baits anytime I see the favorable opertunity. They work well big and small fish both like them. You can weed out most of the smaller hits by going to a bigger bait.- Spinnerbait vs Swim jig
I'm the old dog, I like my spinnerbaits. I have fished them since almost as far back as I can remember. Sure some days a jig is the better choice or at least it may be what the fish want that day. Other days a spinnerbait can be deadly. Like all lures selecting the right one for the conditions hoping the fish agree is all part of the game. To me it isn't about getting rid of a tool because you found another one that worked. Just last Sunday I had a good day on the spinner bait. Probably 10 of the 2lb bass I caught were on a 1/2 oz purple and white Peppers Custom twin nickle colored willow blades. Was about 15 mph winds and partly cloudy with rain coming. Made for good fishing.- BC with braid?
I started with 50# braid it wasn't bad. I also expermented with Big Game mono when I was learning. The braid is easier to get a backlash out generally but the mono is a excellent choice if you're having a tough time learning and braid is backlashing so much you cutting them out. Mono is easier on the wallet. I found that keeping your lure weight in the middle to upper limits of your rod specs really helped as much as line choice to prevent rookie backlashes at bay. Also starting out with a rollcast was beneficial as well.- Top 5 soft plastics

You didn't hurt yourself at that price but like RoLo said- Fishing around private docks, etc?
Oh my last Posted July 23, 2010. Guess the topic is still relevant as the same things do happen even today.- SeaArk deck extension
Yeah it is definitely a learning curve building something for a boat. They have a lot of angles for stuff I didn't take into account. Before when there was just a opening there it looked square and for all practical purposes it was. Then when I built a really square box I found out the wall that the hinge I mounted was angled forward the sides are square so no big issue there but the tops of the rod locker and in front of the driver's compartment have slight inward angles (drainage reasons I presume). That is part of why my lid is slightly higher than the sides as you can see where the rod locker side meets it. Anyway I could have done this much easier and kept my boat all aluminum having a heavy gauge aluminum pan built with a inch or so lip around the edges. Turning the lip down and it would have screwed/bolted right in with no supports if all I wanted was flooring there. But I really wanted the lid. Having easy access to all the flooring below was important. Also wasn't sure I wanted a permanent fixture. Being removable makes it easier for thorough cleaning and if you desire it out of the boat it can come out. So I am still considering options as I know this won't last a long time. Hopefully I can get my brother (my welder) to make me something aluminum that will last. I wish I could get a factory extension that opened reasonable. But I am thinking it would have to be a custom build. The new space is great as it seems to double the room being you can still use the original floor but now it's also available to walk on while holding equipment. Thx for the compliment- Fishing around private docks, etc?
Exactly. Yes in many cases boaters may have the right to fish a dock but did your parents not teach you any courtesy? There is an entire lake and for some reason some people feel they have to get right up on another person. Why? Because you can? There are a lot of things that are legal but it doesn't necessarily make them right. All this attitude does is cement negative attitudes towards all the fishing community. And you guys wonder how a man can get an attitude towards a glitzy boat or post signs on his dock. Guilt by association. It happens diesel trucks get a bad rap from idiots rollin coal, sports cars get it from speeding idiots. I recon some fancy bass boat was holding a-hole that thought he had to prove he could miss a boat by inches with a man sitting in it and missed. Then wouldn't pay to have the chip fixed. Or possibly hit someone. It was the a-hole that left hooks on the dock that possibly the owner would have liked their grandkids to have been able to get on and enjoy the lake. Once the accident happens OOOhhhhh its a whole different story then. If your fishing skills suck so bad that you need to get right up on a man sitting at his own dock (figuratively speaking) and toss at his boat yeah you're a real winner. Doesn't matter if he was holding a pole or answering a text back off. You have an entire freaking lake go fish somewhere else.- Braid to leader - be honest
If you have trust issues with your setup why torture yourself eliminate the problem and go straight fluoro if that is what you think you need to do. If I do use a leader I use the blood knot and haven't had any issues with the knot connection. I also only retie my knots before each outing. I fished for 7 or 8 hours many times and never retie unless its a lure change. But then again I rarely finesse fish and I don't use line under 10lb test.- Good or Garbage?
It will fish. I have some 50lb Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid on one of my spinning reels I use for catfishing. It has been fine. As with anything I am sure you can find someone who will give a horror story or pick it apart. This particular version I have does make a little noise going through the guides but I haven't found any heavy residue and it has held up well for me. It's been on that reel for 3 seasons and I haven't broke off once that I can recall. I dont have the bad toothy critters here but I have used it in the spillways a few times (solid rocks) and haven't seen any real sign of fraying although I am sure it probably had some.- SeaArk deck extension
Thought I would share my redneck "upgrade" to my 2010 SeaArk. I wanted more deck to fish from and so I basically built a table frame and used 3/4 plywood on top. I used a piano hinge from Home Depot ($8) and 1 yard of marine carpet ($19). I had the wood except the plywood but I got it as scrap (free) off a jobsite. The Perko handle was a leftover from when I replaced all the locking ones.(lock does not work but I don't need it to for now). I don't expect it to last but a season maybe 2 but I was impatient and my welder was stacked up. Other than the hinged lid the rest of the support and all comes out in one piece. Hopefully the welder can have this to get dimensions from and build me a aluminum one. Took it out today for the first time and it was nice to have the added walking room since now the cooler and stuff is now under the deck. This Is now this. It is 30" square except for the 4" part that is in front of the driver's console.- Just a shout out to Lew's
- Swam in after a pig that got me hung up
Nope.no swimming for fish yet. Nice catch though.- Anyone else sick of tackle boxes?
for me. Payload is awesome 4X4 does well in the woods and pastures. Usually the fishing partner only has to keep the radio dialed in or work the heat and A/C to suit. Also the tailgate makes for a awesome table / bench. I never used a backpack for fishing but almost everywhere I go I can drive close. Any traveling of distance by foot a backpack is the way to go I would say. Its just to simple banging a hard box off your leg as you hold it vs no hands and a soft bag on you back is a no brainer to me. I use a large Gander Mountain bag and a Okeechobee Fats Tackle Bag with 3700 Plano boxes as well for most of my tackle I move from boat to truck depending on where I am fishing. The rest that almost always stay in the boat are in plastic Sterilite storage containers 6 quart like from Walmart.- Jig Fishing Questions
Well Glenn you do have a YouTube channel (It's even in your signature each time you post) and some people do like to visually see what people are explaining. I don't think, although I could be mistaken, that AnglingNvirginia meant any disrespect to these forums.- Jig Fishing Questions
What brand and style of Jig is getting you snagged up a lot? I mean fishing Jigs where fish are will get snagged it happens but what are you calling a lot? Every other cast every 10 to 15 casts? Are you bank or boat? Fishing from a boat I have occasionally set the hook in a less than desirable object. I fish in the logs and trees pretty often but don't get hung up maybe 3 or 4 times a day. I mean hung up where I have to go get it if I want my jig back. Bank fishing I probably leave a few places I might have found a bass just because I calculated the odds of losing a favorite jig vs what I thought I might pull out of the spot fish wise. I fish for fun and I don't always take the high risk vs reward casts. I do not trim the weed guards. I have removed some strands to weaken a overly stiff guard. If you "trim" it stiffens the bristles. I like a soft guard it doesn't take much to keep the small jig clear from getting the hook accidentally exposed. That is all I need the guard to do. I have been using a lot of Siebert Outdoors jigs over the last 7-8 months and never touch the guard. That little extra length doesn't hurt a thing from my experience. Maybe in a jig that had a lesser design where the guard was standing more vertical but even then trimming it wouldn't cure that. As you can see Mike @Siebert Outdoors has the guard laid back slightly above the hook. This allows the jig to easily glide over cover and is at a great angle where there is little resistance from the bite of a fish. I found he uses a stiff enough guard that it gets through cover and yet its soft enough that it will collapse easily when bit.- 1/4 oz. vs. 1/2 oz. Lipless Opinion
1/2 oz is most of my lipless as well but I don't fish rivers. I have a few of the size down but only go to one of them if I feel I need to try a smaller profile, thump, or different sound.- Lew's Vs. Daiwa Tatula
I did what your asking about. I bought a Tatula just to see if the T-wing was as advertised. My experience was it casts, by eye, no measurable distance different than my Lew's. If it did you would need a 12" ruler and some scientific experiment to calculate the inch difference. The things I didn't care for that the T-wing added was a clunk sound as it drops in place. The CT series may not do that I don't have one of them. And if you have a habit of letting the line run across the top of your finger as it enters the reel you can cause the line to not stay in the slot where it winds back properly. All that being said the Tatula isn't a bad reel but as stated it does feel different, and weights slightly more. Some find their rods need balance so much they watch the weight of a guide so that could be a issue to someone. Personally I use the Lew's but I wouldn't have a issue if I had all Tatulas it's a preference thing as both are proven products. If your serious about a reel choice go hold one at BassPro or wherever and see if you at least like the thing before putting money down. - Home made trailer repairs/upgrades
