Dumb You Tube Fishing Stuff
I call it the Kardashian syndrome. The day people started watching that type stuff the entire planets IQ dropped more than 1/2 it seems. What kills me is people still think that is entertainment. Yes vlog or what ever they want to call it is as absurd as it gets. I have seen a few say I'm only doing it because its the in thing. Soon after he videoed himself mowing the yard. Its a fan driven frenzy. Fan as in fanatic. Look that fanatic word up and think about it for a minute. A normal person doesn't give a hoot what you had for breakfast or all the crap your dog does all day or even your private time raising your kids doing family stuff. Hell who has time to watch another persons life ... oh wait someone with no life, like a fanatic, living through someone else. Who is thinking about the generation of kids that their whole entire childhood has been advertised/sold on the web. What they will feel like when they are grown and a video shows up at the most inopportune time. Its embarrassing enough when a simple childhood picture came out at the wrong time. Much less a recorded live video available 24/7. Really sad some don't think past their own desires. I'm not saying its going to happen but you know some lunatic(fanatic) will eventually get enough info to find one of these people doing vlogs and do some weird crazy person stuff. Then everyone will be like they are so surprised something happened. DUH!!! It happens to actors etc who have much more protection than these people. As for Tacklejunkie he is a simi-perfectionist and a scratch to him is like me busting out your windshield with a ball bat. Well that is what I gathered from his videos prior to me shutting him and others off who have gone away from the reason I watched their videos to start with. Before that I enjoyed watching his fishing videos as they were real down to earth and I saw some things I tried. As for Gene well he sold out. There was a thread on him when he was quitting his job and going full time YouTube. It was discussed then how this might go down. You cant keep sponsors if you don't do what they want. That is a fact. No matter what he thinks of the rods he is using now he has 2 choices since he quit his real job. Say what they want him to and smile while doing it to keep the $ coming, or quit taking the money and then we can start believing what he is saying about a product. Its that simple. As far as him teaching the world well maybe the kids that never saw the older fellas he is showing some stuff. People relate to what they see or have seen and the old guys videos... Oh wait there wasn't a lot of quality video back then. It was magazines and black n white TV. Some of you had color we were poor and happy to have a 13" Emerson. Haha I'm not ranting about it but I agree the landscape is changing and it looks stupid as all get out to me so I just turn off the channel. Makes for more time to fish.

Push In Shallow Water Anchors
I have actually been thinking of picking one of these 9' Superstick Shallow Water Anchor Pin Kit up myself. I have no clue if it will hold much but I have seen some youtube videos of some using the same 3/4" fiberglass rods with pretty good winds and they are bowed but still holding. Just reading the notes it says My boat is only 18' and I don't usually make it a habit to be out on windy days anyway. But I have a lot of places I sure wouldn't have minded being able to tie off for a bit. Just haven't decided if its worth the $ or better yet if I want to give up the $ lol I was looking at going this route but the basspro one is just much simpler to get and I like the 9' vs the 8' single piece.

What is the deal with XCalibur XR Series vs. Booyah? Did Pradco change anything?
If you want to make money as you said you bought them for. Id sell while the profit was good. I hear it's always better to sell high. Wait to long and the fad ends where is the profit then? Guess you could hold for 10 years and pray they become gold. Lmao

Is A Spare Spool Useful?
I never had a condition present itself so urgent and drastic that I just had to change my entire spool. Ok maybe a couple of backlashes a long time ago but another spool wasn't saving squat. Had to get the mess out just to see the spool much less remove it. As far as a fishing condition na no need.

DIY Spool Tension Knob
Dang that is funny And don't mind the guys in uniform trying to stop you leaving the store. You just go right on your way.
-
DIY Spool Tension Knob
Sure you can. Anyone can do anything if they try hard enough. Heck drive to the closest store go to the toothpaste buy one with the cap size that is close. Go home put saran wrap on the toothpaste screw the cap on reel. May need to trim the cap with a box knife to shorten it a little. Take a black sharpie to it. Now your done. Now your out about $5 in fuel, wear on your tires, saran wrap, sharpie ink, and wear off the bottom of your shoes soles. And your reel looks like crap. But hey you might have saved $3 to $5 bucks and you have some toothpaste. If it tries to come off just use a few of those dollars you saved on some gorilla glue and fill that cap and jam it back on wait a day or two it should be good to go then. Good luck.

Best line for a novice Bait-caster user.
In my original suggestion I said "heavy plug to practice with, heavier lures tend to be better for me when I was learning" and even another member said So I dont know where a 1/4 oz lure came into the learning how to cast for the first time. I definitely do not find braid to be "wiry" at all. Im not saying Mono wont work but I would stay within a 12 to 17 lb range roughly as to small diggs in and is harder to see to pick out and to large diameter line does become more like Floro and becomes wiry and kinks. And as I stated before Never once would I suggest a first time baitcast user to tie on a 1/4 oz anything much less a lure. The lighter the lure the smaller the margin for error seems to be. I think you aren't considering this person is in no way ready to fish, they haven't a clue if they will ever be able to cast.

Looking for new rods $100-120
I just about a month ago was in your shoes needing to get a little more rod specific for small cranks. I ordered one of these Fenwick® HMG® Casting Rod MODEL#GT72MFCB and without a doubt found it to become one of my favorite rods. For the $58.88 and oversized surcharge of $10.00 I don't know if it can be beat. They have what appears to be a excellent Limited Lifetime Warranty although I have never used it. Second time out with it it pulled in a 6.25lb LMB that fought pretty hard and it did awesome. I was sick last Saturday when one eye got broke on my boat in a accident so I ordered another new rod Sunday night. Also have the broke one being repaired as well. The guy doing the repair with over a hundred rods laying there started talking about what a excellent rod these were for $100 and raved about it. Seemed sincere but he does build custom rods and only charged me $7.50 to make the rod repair. Maybe he was BSing me either way I really like it. I have one of the 7'11" Mojo Bass Flippin rods and it has been a excellent rod as well. I hear great things about the new Mojo Bass line up mine is the old model but I cant see either being a bad choice if you like the style grip and that extra reach. I cant speak for any of the other brands I haven't actually used any of them other than holding them in a store.

How Accommodate the Guy in the Back?
Like all the reply's so far my partner and I have a really good fishing/boating arrangement. Its my boat but we fish for fun and try to work together. Last trip out I gave him the front and it was actually nice to be in back not having to do anything but find a place to toss a lure. We dont attempt to be pros so there are no hard feelings if we have a communication error or someone gets hung up 2 times in a row we just go get the lure and talk a little smack about the one committing the bad casts at that moment. Consideration for the one in back is a nice thing but unless its just obvious your treating that one to a horrible experience I haven't seen it as that bad when I didn't really focus on him. He never hit me in the back of the head with a lure or talked crap I could hear. All in all if mt fishing partner wasn't very easy to get along with and work well with me I would have a different partner or none at all. I feel many of you might be the same way.

Best line for a novice Bait-caster user.
At this point in er34323 game catching fish or having the perfect setup to fish is not even in the discussion. See his/her words below... In my opinion all he/she needs is setup to LEARN how to use the equipment. Make it function and cast for learning for him/her in a manner he/she will not get frustrated and give up. Hence the reason for a bigger line to that it is easier / quicker to fix the nests he/she will get. Cant even consider fishing if you cant cast the lure without a backlash.

Best line for a novice Bait-caster user.
I have had less issues with braid than mono. 30lb or more is not going to dig in easy and the line is heavy enough its easy for me to pick out a nest easily. Cheap line is a good idea because you will go through some. I know some say just the opposite but I think part of it is just what someone learned with and is comfortable using. Being this is your first bait caster I would get a heavy plug to practice with, heavier lures tend to be better for me when I was learning. Also do not be afraid to apply all the brakes starting out they are your training wheels. Yeah I see these videos where they are talking 1 or 2 brakes and this that etc but you can always back off slowly as you figure it out. You start to few brakes and your getting frustrated fast picking out backlashes. Last tip no matter how bad you want to cast far don't try for long distance starting out. Learn to cast and cast accurately then start backing off the brakes and you will see the distance pick up slowly over time. I hear that is a nice reel too. And a 6'10" rod length should help with accuracy. I know for me a Medium rod seems to be more forgiving on casting starting out but I learned on a MH/F as well but a 7' length.

Keeping boat at the dock 24/7
Depending on the marine growth rate, scum and goodness knows what ever else floats up to it mechanical problems could happen. Not to mention the spiders and bugs that will love to make a home inside the boat just waiting on you to jump in for a ride. Being in the elements is always hard on boats, cars, trucks etc. Just look at a garage kept anything compared to a vehicle/boat that was left out side 365. Its difficult enough to keep the carpet in good shape along with seats and cushions etc when kept tightly covered and out of the weather. Its like anything else. Different people were raised different and put different values on things. I keep my vehicles clean no road film but not car show polished all the time. Its a maintenance thing keeping the finish taken care of makes it last longer. I see some with vehicles 2X the cost of mine that never wash or wax them and could care less every time their clothes brush the side they wear that nasty film. I presume they buy another when it gets to dirty? My point is my boat doesn't sit in the water for months either but that is because of how I was brought up. The person who never washes their Cadillac, Hummer, Corvette etc leaving a boat in the lake would probably be no issue. They obviously dont consider the value or care. In your case I would look for a boat storage facility close. It doesn't take 5 minutes to load/unload a boat.

Happens at least once a year
I was talking with a friend when he saw this post up on my screen. We got to bsing about it and watched about 3 or 4 YouTube videos of these failures one after another probably watched 50 or more of these kind of mistakes. We both noticed a common theme with them. (besides the stupidity) I bet over 2/3 of them were midsize or small vehicles. Kind of makes ya think, the margin for error is going to be higher. Less tire on the ground less weight to plant the tire on the ground and maybe other points as well. And although its not a scientific test they were just random video compilations of these incidents so I thought it did have some merit to it. Oh it was later thought there were more Fords in the tank than any other brand as well. But that could be biased comment.

Lews Maintenance
Nice reel ya got I really like my Tournament MB.

What would you pay for a NIB reel that has been discontinued?
No heck no. I just think back to the days in school when they had the slogan "Don't Do Drugs" When I see the retarded prices of something like a fishing reel,a lure, or a old car etc. I understand the reason some do it and others I don't. Still doesn't make it make any more sense. I think I could find a new reel with a warranty of equal quality that I could fish with.
