  1. I've fished with a few of the guys from here. Good times. I'd take one of those yaks for a spin in the spring. Also, I went out this morning to a small pond near me and got skunked. The season's over!
  2. I got out with a friend last week for one last trip. This wasn't the biggest I caught this year, but it was the last, and largest fish of the day. Caught it on a wacky rigged Senko:
  3. Thanks for the feedback everyone. What are your thoughts on these BPS rods? They're around the same price point as I'm looking at: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XPS-Extreme-Spinning-Rod-ETR68MLS/product/11092205011617/
  4. I plan on purchasing an Okuma Inspira reel in the smallest size and putting 6lb test on it. I want to pair it with a ML spinning rod to throw plastics. I can't fit anything longer than 6'6 in the back of my vehicle. If I buy a longer rod, it'll need to be in 2 pieces. I've been looking at the following rods: Fenwick HMX Fenwick Elite Tech St Croix Premier Dobyns Fury I'm leaning toward the St Croix, but it doesn't say on TW if it's in 2 pieces. I should also note that I'm shore-bound unless friends take me out in their boats. I'd appreciate some feedback and help. Thanks!
  5. I haven't had any luck to the north. I'd love to hear suggestions though.
  6. Quiet day today - picked up a decent sized bass and a few fat crappie. I might try doing a little shore fishing next week, but I think this pretty much wraps up my first year return to fishing.
  7. I couldn't have done it without the kindess and expertise of Rhino and Grampa.
  8. Killed it today: I started the day with a 3lb bass on a rage craw and ended the day with a 3lb+ bass on a wacky rigged senko.
  9. I just started fishing again. I'm only using one rod/reel for everything right now. I've got a Sedona and a cheap Bass Pro 6/6 MH. I like the Sedona, but I want to upgrade my rod. I'm willing to spend $100. I was thinking 6/6 M. What should I buy? I was looking at the Clarus or maybe the St. Croix Premier (which is more $). Also, thanks for any help.
  10. Thanks! I'm picking up a pair of forceps before I get on the water again so I can practice the gut hook removal method above.
  11. Big thanks to everyone who reached out. Rhino and I got out on the water yesterday and killed it. And I learned how to rig and fish some plastics. Bonus!
  12. Sure. Anyone who might be interested should PM me and we can discuss it. Thanks again.
  13. Anyone know of any freshwater guides in the Eastern MA area? I'd love to get in a boat and hit some larger water. I emailed these guys, but they're booked up till spring: http://www.baymencharters.com/guide-service/freshwater-fishing/ Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Not yet. I'm actually going to give it a try this weekend.
  15. I hiked up to Silver Lake near dusk, but I didn't bring my gear. I wished I had once I got up there. It was gorgeous and no one was there. You actually might have better luck there than on Dunmore. Also, I saw a few canoes just sitting on the Silver Lake shore, you might be able to take one out. You should ask. I camped at Branbury and fished the Sucker Brook area. I didn't see any lillies. I got the smallies deep on a lipless strike king crank. It was a beautiful day, but not very productive for fishing.
  16. Jig, have you tried fishing Spy Pond in Arlington?
  17. I was up there a few weeks ago and had a pretty tough time of it. I rented a canoe from the state park, and you can only take those out from like 10 - 4 or something dumb. The headwinds were awful and pushed me around the lake. If you're bringing your own boat, you'll probably have a way better time. I did pull a few SMB off rock piles--see to the right of the beach.
  18. Let me know how your trip goes. I want to check out the Quabbin for LMB next month.
  19. Also, I fished a frog for the first time (livetarget) and worked on technique. I think I got the hang of it.
  20. Nope. Let us know how it is if you go. I caught a few dink LMB at Houghton's last night, both around 10 inches. One on a bluegill colored crank. The second on a jitterbug in the dark. It was fun trying to get the hooks out with my phone in my mouth and the flashlight on--apparently I need a headlamp.
  21. I'm just getting back into fishing this year. If anyone's looking for a fishing partner for the Quabbin, I'd love to team up. Thanks!
  22. Caught up a couple small SMB up in Vermont this weekend. Got hung up and lost a few lures too--ugh.
  23. Let me know how you do Jig, maybe I just had a bad day. Also, I don't have any plastics to throw. Maybe a worm would've done it.
  24. Fished the Old Lexington Reservoir last night for a few hours and got absolutely nothing. It was dead there.
