  1. Hopefully I can make it next year!
  2. I would absolutely do this, but there are a few different houses around, none right on the pond, and I have no clue which house owns it.
  3. There's a pond on private property that my Uncle fished for over thirty years. He took me there a lot. It's a small secluded place, but special to me. And there are huge fish in there! My Uncle had a stroke a few years ago. Prior to that, he'd told me that he met some new owners and they gave him the ok to keep fishing the pond. He never brought people there, my brother and I, and a few others. Honestly, my Dad asked me about it a while back, and I decided not to tell him where it was--plus I thought it was kind of funny not to tell him. Anyway, I'm going to be in town visiting family soon and I'd love to go check out the pond and make a few casts. I haven't been in a decade. Do you think this is ok? If anyone approached me or said anything I'd of course be very respectful and explain who I was. I'd love to hear what others think about this. I know people have strong feelings about this kind of thing. Thanks!
  4. Absolutely @DogBone_384 I'm hoping to be around by May 15th. I might even a baitcaster to play with by then.
  5. You've got pics of those two big ones you caught almost back to back last year though! I'm going to be living in Boston again for the summer before I move out to Ohio to start my PhD. Looking forward to fishing with you guys again.
  6. Hey man, I've had a real hard time fishing down here since I moved back in the fall. I've been out a bunch of times this year and only caught a couple fish. I did lose a nice LMB (at least 4 lbs) on Canyon Lake this week. Hope you did well at Bartlett. I haven't fished there yet.
  7. Glad to see you guys are out and at'em. It's going to be 80 and sunny here over the weekend so I'm planning on going out both days .
  8. This is perfect. Great info. Thanks guys!
  9. I got my first kayak and I'm new to reading a fish finder. I'm running the Lowrance Hook 4x and been out on the water a few times thus far. I'm looking for some good articles or posts on the basics of reading what I'm seeing and optimizing the capabilities of the unit. I've read a few things here and there, but nothing super helpful. The large topic in the forum is totally overwhelming. I've been running the Lowrance in the horizontal two panel menu, sonar on top and downscan on the bottom. I've mounted it through the front scupper so that means what I'm seeing is what I've just passed, correct? Red bottom is rock? The lighter it is the softer the bottom? I really just need to learn some basics and I'm looking for resources. Thanks in advance!
  10. I took my first kayak out for its maiden voyage yesterday. It still needs some work: rod holder, milk crate, ect..., but it handled well and I didn't fall in!

I've never caught a fish on a rattletrap, but I've gotten hung up and lost lots of rattletraps.
  12. How do these compare to the lower end St Croix line?
  13. To follow up here on my trip: it was a very slow day of fishing. The guide did a really good job under the circumstances. We were on fish, but getting them to bite was a whole other ball of wax. We got four fish between the three of us while fishing for four hours--sounds like the beginning of a math problem. That said, the one I caught was a real nice 3+ lb LMB
  14. Those are the guys I'm using. I did my homework; they have a great rep.
  15. Thanks for all the feedback. This is very helpful. I'll post up a report next week. Hopefully it'll include pics of some big bass!
  16. I've never fished with a guide before, but I'm living in a completely new place and I don't have a way to get out on the water so I booked a trip with a friend. Any tips for having a great trip? The guy I booked has a great rep. I'm excited to get out there next weekend to catch some desert bass.
  17. Gah! I miss fishing New England. I'm in SF for work this week. I'll be back in AZ next week. I've a guided trip planned on some desert lakes and I'm hoping to buy a yak before the 1st of the year. Happy to check back on this thread and see everyone catching good fish!
  18. What kind of knot do you use to tie directly to a spinnerbait?
  19. Good advice. I think I can do 85 lbs without too much trouble. Anything I should look for when I check it out? How do I know if the fish finder is functional on dry land? This'll be my 1st yak.
  20. I'm shopping around for a used fishing kayak. Old Town Predator 13 w/Lowrance Elite-4 HDI w/ some add ons: * Lowrance Elite-4 Hdi, Tranducer, bag and battery * Werner Tybee: Hooked paddle. * Life vest from bass pro shop. * 4 adjustable rod holders * Rope cleat * Adjustable wheels. I'm thinking like $1,100 for this one? I'm seeing new ones for around $1,400 online. What do you think?
  21. My fav bait to fish!
