  1. I fish from a kayak. This lake is very close to me and I've fished it a handful of times, but never found it to be very productive. My lake options are limited right now. There's not a lot of productive water that's close to me. I'd love to be able to drop by this place and do well for a few hours. Here are the current conditions. It's been hot, 90 during the day, but the temp plummets tomorrow: it'll be a high of 70 or so. The water is usually muddy, very little clarity. It's about 200 acres. Anyway, where would you fish and what would you use? Thanks a bunch!
  2. Oh man, that's a rough picture!
  3. Or, what happens is you start fishing with the borrowed bait and then the bite turns off for both of you. I'd call that fish 5 lbs. You broke your PB. In the picture you texted me it looks kind of skinny? I saw some kayak tourney results for Ponkie from a year or two ago and multiple 5+ lb fish were caught, a few 4's too.
  4. I haven't broke the SMB 5 lb mark yet. I was hoping to pull it off at the Quabbin this year, but no dice.
  5. Tuna been hittin' the gym these days...no more fat.
  6. Those are not great tourney results for that place huh? I heard Whitehall used to be an excellent fishery. Good job hanging in there though! I caught a handful of dinks screwing around in my kayak late Saturday. I went out with my Dad around 5:00 PM because he wanted to go for a paddle. I only brought one pole with a ned rig, and nothing else. Of course on my first cast I said, "I'm probably not going to catch anything." Any then immediately landed a keeper LMB. Fun day. Got a nice swim in as well.
  7. Methinks they're terrible.
  8. I didn't get out at all last week. Anyone been on the Quabbin lately? I'm wondering how slow it's getting for SMB as we enter the heat (heart) of summer.
  9. My trolley is way too loose. I need to get new line and redo it.
  10. Haha - I should add, we did double up on fish on 3 different occasions. That was pretty cool!
  11. Full 8 hours on the water today fishing with Tom down in his neck of the woods. We started right at 5 AM. It was pleasant and cloudy all day. I did almost all my damage, 20+ fish, with the small ned rig and the fat ika. Sometimes simple works the best. I fished both baits pretty slow. Fish were absolutely inhaling the ika no matter how fast I set the hook. This led to some minor surgery, but "no fish were seriously harmed in the making of this day." My biggest LMB weighed in at 3'4, and fought like hell. Tom kept catching pickerel, all day. Until further notice, he's the Pickerel King.
  12. Yeah. I'm not a big fan of Ohio fishing, but I've only fished the southeast part of the state. I'm happy to be home fishing in New England. Water on the Quabbin and Cape always treat me well.
  13. Here are a couple nice ones from the Quabbin on Friday:
  14. Wonderful to fish with you Michael. Thanks for the invitation!
  15. I've heard such great things about Vermont fishing. You might want to reach out to @Mainebass1984. I feel like I've seen him post about Vermont fishing a lot. And he gave me some helpful info about the state a few years back. Good luck.
  16. In retrospect, fishing a weightless, t-rigged paddletail might've been the move. I dunno, there were a couple good bass in through there, but mostly bluegill. And the couple bass were cruising around, they weren't stationary.
  17. My CT kayak outing early this morning was fruitful. I caught a ton of small bass and bluegill, and a few nice LMB as well. The biggest went 2'8. I also spotted a huge female LMB hanging near a rock pile. I positioned my yak and casted beyond her a few times, before hooking into a bluegill. So I'm reeling in the gill and what happens--the huge female chases and engulfs the bluegill. My drag kicks in and my rod doubles over and for a moment I think I'm going to be able to land both fish, but the big bass lets go and the bluegill gets off the line, and I end up missing out on a 5+ lb fish, and losing the bluegill. Good story though.
  18. How'd you make out?
  19. Things have been slow for me the last two times out. Today, I bank fished a spot I always do well at and got skunked. In fact, I didn't even get a bite over the course of a couple hours. I'm fishing the Q next week and hope to have a good day out there!
  20. Yup! Ika's last much longer for me, and are very effective for SMB.
  21. Standard Quabbin SMB from last week. I didn't get a picture or weight of the big one I caught because it got away when I tried to dip it.
  22. Thanks @new2BC4bass - is PLine Cx possibly a better option for the baitcaster? I don't want to sacrifice sensitivity by moving to mono. Thanks!
