Opens pro Ed Loughran Goes To Court To Defend His Right To Fish
Not too often you see a younger person hassling anglers. Normally, it's some miserable old fart with a "You-kids-get-ff-my-lawn!" attitude. Problem IS, that LAWN does NOT extend into the water.

Berkley lightning rod w fluoro?
It's 12 lb. CX Premium. I bought it because I've had good results with P-line's Floroclear and figured I'd give it a shot. Just bought some line conditioner, so I'm just waiting to give that a try, see if it helps.

Berkley lightning rod w fluoro?
I'm having the opposite. Real stiff and springy, and I don't think I could break it if I wanted to. I tried breaking off, with my hand. Let's just say I have about a 1/8 inch notch in the side of my pinky, where it dug in, deep.

Berkley lightning rod w fluoro?
Ah, yes. The Vanish haters. I dunno, man. I've never had one single problem with Vanish. Wish I could say the same for the P-line CX Premium that I am currently using.

Berkley lightning rod w fluoro?
I'm guessing, if anything, it's the other way around. I think the Shock, since it was designed to be fished with braid, has a slower, more flexible tip, for added shock absorption. All your probably doing is giving more absorption to the fluoro, now, which is fine. Fluoro has less stretch than mono. You'll be ifne.

Favorite Rod Brand?
In the past, I haven't invested a lot in rods. I've been content with Berkleys and the Field And Stream rods. Admittedly, I throw quite a bit of small crankbaits and such, so I didn't need that much sensitivity and tip action, but now I'm wading into soft baits more and more, and wanted a good, sensitive rod to go with my new Curado I. In checking them out, I liked Shimano rods, Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0s and the Duckett line up.

Goals for the 2016 Fishing Season
I'm setting out to do more soft plastic techniques. I suddenly realized that I tend to be more of a hard bait angler, primarily cranks and jerks, so I wanna change things up and hopefully, in the process, improve my catch percentage. Just bought a new Curado I in the past couple months, and just waiting on some cash flow to mate it up with a good sensitive rod for throwing plastics.

Opinions on Fluorocarbon
I'm another guy who has had good experience with Berkley Vanish. Can't complain. It's worked just fine for me. Had lots of problems with Sufix Invisiline, and currently having similar issue with P-Line CX Premium. It's a shame, cause I really like their Floroclear (Note: I am aware that they are both fluorocarbon coated, and not true Fluoro.)

Bass Fishing From Shore
This thread has piqued my interest. I do a lot of shore fishing, especially in current, such as in rivers. Very good info here, so far.

Music in the boat?
I'm there to fish. If I wanna hear music, I can do that at home. Last thing I want are distractions.

Lil' Corky in a tube bait instructions
Hogsticker, thank you for essentially answering my question. I always have foam earplugs lying around and had thought about using one as a mini float, even stuffing it in a tube. Glad to see someone else has already tried it. How well does it then float?

Canoe vs. Kayak... A custom builder's conundrum.
I have both. Started in a 4-person Pelican, two years ago and got tired of hauling it myself, so I bought a kayak, last winter. I love my kayak, but if I had the money, I'd buy one of those solo canoes. Sometimes, given the limitations of the deck layout of whatever kayak you have, you may run into issues, being able to efficiently rig your kayak. With a canoe, you have this big, open hull. The Old Town Next solo canoes look nice, but reach shy of $1k!. Stability is never an issue with either for me, cause I outfitted both to run outriggers, if needed. Makes a world of difference, especially to someone still developing their sea legs.

River smallmouths
I don't really think there IS a "too shallow" when it comes to Smallies. I've seen it where their dorsal fin is poking out of the surface. Living in Pittsburgh, you get used to fishing River Smallies, as you have 3 rivers right in front of you.

Do You Have To Spend Big Bucks For An Accurate Scale?
After the recent talk, I decided to get to the bottom of the phantom power-up issue. Doesn't matter, cause now I can't get it to repeat the issue. Now, it's behaving itself. I popped her open. Some very cheap-ass that looked like it was previously crushed a little bit, which MAY have been the issue. So far, so good. I'm gonna keep batteries in her, and see if the problem happens again.

Punching with egg sinkers?
I've thought about that, myself. I really don't see it being a problem, unless I'm missing something. So long as you peg it like you would a bullet weight, it should work just fine. Right?

What lb mono backing for braid?
I buy the cheapest mono I can find for backer. Right now, I'm using 8 lb. Mr. Crappie.

What's a good fluorocarbon line
Yes, please don't use Vanish. That way, I can have it to myself, since I've never had a problem with it.

Do You Have To Spend Big Bucks For An Accurate Scale?
Here's the thing: It's not even the power button that's getting bumped. I've been able to replicate it, where I simply jostle the unit, sometimes just the hook, and it comes on. I've never seen anything like it. Weird.

Do You Have To Spend Big Bucks For An Accurate Scale?
I bought one of these little "luggage scales" at DSG in the fishing department, last year. While it's pretty accurate, it DOES turn itself on, for some reason, so normally, when I go to use it, the d**n batteries are dead. I've taken to keeping it stored with one battery popped out, but now I have to fudge with a friggin' battery and compartment to USE the d**n thing, each time? Anybody ELSE having this issue with theirs? If I had hair, I'd pull it out!

What are your go to winter river smallmouth baits?
Sounds like you are onto something. I was gonna suggest a hair jig, possibly on a float-n-fly. Living in Pittsburgh, most of the fishing I end up doing is usually river fishing, so I feel your pain. So much of what we are exposed to, as learning fishermen, are keyed toward being in a bass boat, on a lake somewhere in the southern states.

rather have a squarebill or lipless when fishing wood? And why/
Ironically, the last squarebill I got, I found buried into the side of a floating laydown. KVD 2.5. Fortunately, I had 30 lb. braid on one of my rods, so I casted till I snagged it, then horsed the whole d**n tree to the shore. A little clean-up and she's back in the game.

Best Casting Rod for Under $60?
Been eyeing up the Veritas lately, but now the BPS Johnny Morris Carbonlite has popped up. Anybody have personal experience with both in about a 7' M or MH?

How many times have you lost a brand new lure first cast?
Oh good, it's not just me who's had this happen!

BIGGEST RAT L TRAP YOU THROW
Normally throw quarters, but started throwing 1/2 ounce, last season, especially one in red craw. That one netted me a 2 pounder on a local lake where nobody was catching much of anything.
