  1. Stopped at Gander Mountain to kill some time the other day. I stumbled across what looks to be a new line of Uncle Josh's pork bait products. Looks like they are using pork to simulate worms and minnows. Anybody try these and have any opinions on them?
  2. Johnson Silver Minnow spoon will cruise through that vegetation just fine.
  3. Been a fluro and mono guy. Just started into braid and, so far, I love it. However, I HAVE been tying straight off braid to my lures. No leader. Was wondering if I was doing myself any sort of justice, but the water where I fish is usually at least stained slightly, so I figure I'm fine, as is.

Nice catches. some of my most productive days are at the local creek. Up here, we have Smallies in our creek. Never saw a LMB in it. Always go creek fishing with several Rebel Wee Craws and a few Marabou jigs. Our Smallies love those two lures.
  5. Not a dumb question at all. In fact, after being on the water for 3 hours yesterday, I found myself, afterward, almost wanting to drink the d**n lake water!! We returned, and I downed 2 bottles of water in record time. Maybe I SHOULD start bringing something..........
  6. Funny. I cllcked on the link, and the fourth pic was mine. Got two of the camo ones, and suits me, fine.
  7. Amen to that! Loved my Subwalk 7, and lost it to a snag. Locally found the Subwalk 9 back in February. Took it out to the bank of the local river on first weather break, just to get out of the house and do SOMETHING fishing-related. On the fourth cast, about 8 feet out in front of me, this 24 inch Brown Trout sweeps from the left and devours my lure! Really feisty thing. Took all i could to land her in my net, since she was poking out of both ends, and get some pics and vid.
  8. Welcome, Tyler! Fellow Yinzer, here, too!
  9. Always dusk and dawn, but if I have to make a choice, it's gonna be dawn. I've always gotten more bites then, than at dusk.
  10. I don't eat anything when I'm fishing. Most times, I don't bring anything to drink, either.
  11. Been getting skunked quite a bit, this year. Doesn't seem to matter the time, the place, the lures, etc. Went down to the river this morning at 5:30. Started throwing top waters. Nothing. Didn't see a d**n bite till about 9:30, when i hooked into about a 12 inch Smallmouth on a crawfish-colored Rat L Trap. Didn't matter, cause she tossed the hook before I could get the net under her (I wish fishing on a dock by this point.). At least it was SOMETHING. Still, it woulda been nice to actually land her and take a closer look at her.
  12. Yeah, well I was working from memory, which is limited, since the manual, IMO, isn't all that helpful.
  13. You should be able to turn down the noise reduction for the top several feet of water, if I remember correctly. Do that and re-adjust your sensitivity.
  14. This is badass. So ripping it off if I get the funds.
  15. One of my local holes are swamped with these things. More shiners than bass, sadly. First time out on it, first cast with a black Jitterbug, one of these bit as soon as the d**n lure hit the water. I musta cast right on top of it or something. Since then, haven't been able to snag a d**n one.
  16. Yeah, I think i got my issue licked. Looks like I can load several lakes up on the same card, it just can't be on the same card as the included Lake Insight charts. Bought a separate cards for downloaded lakes, and, so far so good.
  17. Nice. that's the one i was gonna go for, but i couldn't find it, locally, and I ended up going with the Field And Stream Eagle Talon 12. Oddly, I just found a local West Marine, yesterday. Oh well. Looks like you're enjoying yours as much as I have, mine. Happy fishing!
  18. Been a riverbank fisher for over 30 years. Got a canoe last year and liked it, but knew a kayak would be less cubersome, so I got my first yak. SOOOO much nicer than any other fishing I've ever done, bank, boat, canoe, or whatever. Worth every dime.
  19. Yeah, I've tried at the bottom of the dam, but with no success (although i DID catch a nice looking lure! ) i typically go down a ways and fish along the stream, there, just before or after this little rock dam in the stream. A lot of times, I use a Rebel Wee Craw. Smallies love em, and they suspend, so it stays off the bottom. Otherwise, I'm using a hair jig, like a Lindy Fuzzy Grub, or something hand tied.
  20. I always make sure I have a couple Rebel wee Craws with me, especially when stream fishing for Smallies. They seem to love them and Marabou jigs.
  21. There are actually some productive spots. The section right below Canonsburg Lake Dam is usually a sure thing for Smallies. Some decent holes down around Chartiers Park and Wingfield Pines. I found one spot last year that they were crushing, but haven't been back this year, yet. I saw some pic proof of a few hogs caught down on the Lynch Ponds, but personally haven't caught much, myself, there.
  22. I'm right in the South Hills. I can get down to the Allegheny North Shore in about 10-15 minutes, depending on city traffic. Rains have been keeping me away from the rivers and streams. Finally getting a break. Haven't returned to the rivers, but have been fishing some holes in Chartiers Creek for Smallies, and a little lake fishing. Thinking about heading to the Yough in the next month with the yak. Haven't fished it since high school.
