Abu Garcia Neo 3-Way
https://japanlureshop.com/abu-neo-3way.html?fbclid=IwY2xjawJRqFNleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHfyi0hX8dmDSECwn_ekICpv3P248D7NroYPtdXqyLwiIB_NiAAlXEB5sxA_aem_X98l9X9Z3Z-UyvX6AhDZZg Looks like this new reel is designed for both big baits and finesse. It comes with a deep spool and shallow spool and both a power handle and a standard 95mm handle. I had a feeling someone would make something like this. I just thought it was interesting. It's also under $200, JDM price.

Great stuff. That must have been some fight for a 10 year old. If it's not any trouble, just send me a message on Bass Resource. I think it would be cool to see a picture of it. Thanks

What are you using your Steez A2 for?
I have the one in the pic on a IMX Pro 866c CBR Deep Flex. I throw primarily big cranks and deep cranks on it. I have tried it on a Megabass Valkyrie 7'4'' H+ and tossed around a few swimbaits with it. I liked it but I preferred it on the 866c. I also have a soft spot for the my 2012 Antares as my swimbait reel. I haven't fished any of G. Loomis's swimbait rods so I am not sure how it would do with the Citizen. The Valkyrie I have does just fine with things like a Magdraft or a Slide Swimmer 145 but struggles with anything that approaches 3oz. I would stick with what you and if you struggle with it, maybe then it would be time to sell and move on to something else.

A love letter to mono
I totally believe you and sorry about your son. So no picture necessary. I know it is totally possible to haul in fish like this. There is a young man in southern Indiana that brought in a 100lb+ blue that is a story of legend. https://www.wlky.com/article/what-a-catch-9-year-old-southern-indiana-boy-reels-in-nearly-100-pound-catfish/32687945 I have also seen a young boy on a bridge outside of Eagle Creek Reservoir that caught a large 40lb catfish. He pulled it straight up on to the bridge with a boys equivalent of a Barbie rod. I believe both these kids were using the pre-installed mono that came on the rod and reel when they caught these fish. But that was not exactly my question/thought. Concerning the fish I caught.... I was using a ML spinning rod with #1.2 PE X-braid Upgrade and a 10lb FC Daiwa X-Link Leader. For the lure, I was using a 2.8in Keitech Fat Impact with a 1/8oz jig. I was next a dam fishing for whatever I could find on my graph in deep water. A 25+lb blue catfish nailed that bait and I brought it up from the bottom which was over 30 feet only to have that fish blow its guts out all over my kayak. The line and knot stayed together fine after that battle. No break offs and I used the same leader and connection knot the rest of the day. I did bend out the jig hook. The drag on that reel was not happy and a net saved my rod from breaking. So with that said, how does my this differ from the monster bass you caught on mono when it comes to durability of line and knot strength?

I know you have caught some big ones but what bass would fight harder than a 25lb+ blue catfish in 30 feet of water? Personally I have only caught one bass that was just a fuzz over 10lbs. It was a blast but it was nothing like that catfish. I've also caught a few catfish over 40lbs on much heavier gear and line but the light line, knot and tackle brought that 25lb fish up just fine. Bent the hook out though.

Best comment yet. 😃

Does a 20+lb blue catfish count? PE braid #1.2 and 10lb leader with a lot of patience and a net.

the Megabass Magdraft. some questions?
I have had good luck with the six inch version. The magnet sucks. I use a drop of glue to keep it in there but it still doesn't hold well. You almost have to get the hook in the cavity perfect for it to stay in there as well. Also, I don’t usually use a straight retrieve and you're right, you can't burn this bait. It's not really designed to be fished that way. My retrieve is usually a stop and pop. If you do this at the right speed, it will roll a little on its side and that's when the fish will nail it. If you want to go at a faster retrieve, try the 6th Sense Whale or the Duo Realis Versa Shad.

Shaky head versus Finesse jig
I think of them as two different things, depending on how they are presented. A shakey head to me looks a fish foraging on stuff on the bottom. A finesse jig is a small bait fish or crawdad just moving around the bottom. Also, a shakey head is great dead sticked and a finesse jig, depending on the trailer, can be swam in.

What are you using your Steez A2 for?
I have both and really either one would work. Personally I like the Steez AII better but for swimbaits I like a bigger handle. I have put 100m Gomexus handle on one of mine. The handle on the Zillion HD is just fine to me. It might be the bigger knobs.

High-end rod lineup for 2025 (update)
Nice line up. Just curious why would sell the 872s or the Dark Sleeper? Is the 872s too close to the 852s? Dark Sleeper too soft/spongey?

I order from them way to often. Great service and I always look forward to the free surprise they send.

2025 classic
Thinking way back..... Was Randy the angler that got his boat stuck during a tournament in area he wasn't supposed to be in or something? I think they lifted the boat out with a crane?

2025 classic
I have to admit, it kind of made me sleepy. I like how they covered it years ago around 2000-2005. It seemed more exciting. But your right, catching fish is never boring.

2025 classic
If you look at the old tournaments on YouTube that he was in, he hasn't changed. He was crying back then. I think i saw one where he was complaining about ph monitors and paper graphs. Stuff was hilarious. Also, I have no problem with him having a stance on FFS. It's just how he goes about his argument. He comes off like a whiner and a sore looser. He could go about it in a more professional way.

2025 classic
Yap. Noticed on day 1 and 2 that there was no one in the seats behind the weigh in platform. Made for bad photo ops. I had a buddy that went and said the distance from the expo to the arena was a long painful drive. Plus parking was around $30. He said it was about 5-6 hours round trip from his hotel to the weigh in and back. Also, he said the expo was packed and that whoever set everything up didn't think things through.

2025 classic
I saw this and it put FFS in perspective. Before you judge his youth or criticize his fishing methods, educate yourself on his journey. He is an incredible young man. I witnessed a lot of amazing things this weekend, but I’m always disgusted by the hateful comments people make on posts when it comes to questioning anglers talent due to FFS use. He found the fish, he exicuted and performed to perfection…end of story. Congratulations sir, you are a Bassmaster Classic Champion! Easton Fothergill Fishing Rick Clunn

Lizard baits
25+ years ago I was privileged to fish with a retired professional angler. Good guy but not much for variety. Anytime we would go out, he would fish a 6in green pumpkin Zoom Lizard about 95٪ of the time. He would take me to school on this bait. For me personally, I caught my PB (10lb 2oz) on 6in black and blue Zoom Lizard. I don't fish them as often as I use to. I tend to catch better numbers on a creature bait or something like the OSP DoLive Beaver. The strikes on a lizard are viscous though.

In need of a 7 foot medium moderate action spinning rod
Not sure of your budget but if you can find one, the Megabass P5 Windbuster is sort of a do all rod with a more moderate action. I have used it for just about everything from jerbaits to a free rig and of course things like a 4in paddle tail swimbait with a 1/8oz head. With that said, it was designed to be a hard bait rod but it's pretty sensitive and has plenty of power. You can usually find on a JDM site for around $300-$325 plus shipping but no warranty. US cost is around $475 with a warranty.

Daiwa Steez Real Control rod!
I just picked up the 6'11'' MH Fast JDM version for about half the cost of the US price. Amazing rod to say the least. I don't think the US version is worth the big price tag but it definitely is a pleasure to fish.

BFS - Pop X Stick the best?
I've got a few BFS rods and my favorite has been the Kistler Hunt Series rods. It can handle big fish and light lures. It loads well and is pretty sensitive. I tend to throw lures in 3-7 gram range. It brought this one in last year (a good net was a must).

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I have at least one bait in all three sizes of the siglett. Fun bait. When the water hits about 55-60 degrees, just about any fish will hit it. I have caught bass, bluegill, crappie, drum and catfish on it. The Nano Siglett is a pain to cast though. I like this bait so much I picked up the Siglett BFS rod. It's delicate to say the least.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Some odds and ends. I needed a few spinnerbaits like I needed a hole in my head but the Megabass I-Wing should be a blast. Also, picked two 110 +2s that I mentioned in another thread. I couldnt find one of them and I smashed the lip on another when I closed the the lid on my Plano box. The Buster Ks have been on my radar but the $20 US price is hard stomach for a fog. I found them for $10 on a JDM site. They should be fun. I also picked up two 5in Magdrafts. I hope they are better than the previous version.

Anyone buy hand pour soft plastics?
I like the baits from 99 Strikes but they have gotten pricey. They may look good but there are cheaper options.

What are generally considered the best performing 3-5’ crankbaits for $10 or less?
I think the KVD baits, to be kind, are not that great. I bought tons of them years ago and the guys I fish with use them as well. We all struggle to get them to run right and the hooks are a waste. You might get 1 out of 3 that run OK and 1 out of 5 that perfect. Plus, for me, they really don't catch fish that well. The XD models are a different story, except for the hooks. I replace them straight out of the box. For a decent bait around $10, I have liked the Bill Lewis ATV. The handful I have, have been great right out of the box. They also have really good hooks. For around $10 (maybe $12), I also order the OSP Blitz and the Deps Evoke Shad from a JDM site. Not exactly cheap but they are great and good to go with quality hardware.
