  1. Same here. Different world. Dont get me wrong there are some great young anglers out there, but nowadays they seem fewer. There are some killer deals on stuff for sure...Unless of course they dont know what they are buying. I see guys show up to bass fish with all kinds of spoons for trolling trout, or crappie rigs... Ive just learned to loan out a few older spinning rods with braid and start with good ole fashioned wacky senco's! If that doesnt get ya bass fishing, nothing will!!
  2. I think its a few things. Kids now dont fish, they play video games and text one another. Instant gratification is the key..18 year old who works for me asked my why I fish all the time, so I took him out with me. We did awesome, but he said it was the most boring thing he has ever done. Another is cost. Especially in Kayak fishing. When I got into yak angling in 2005, it was rare among bass fisherman, and the cost for things were cheap. I added up what my normal load out, with 6 rod and reels, tackle, kayak, safety gear, fish finder, and little odds and ends and it was over $5k. Thats only ONE kayak, and a small amount of my tackle compared to what sits in my shop. Very expensive hobby, so not as many people are doing, so not as many people are pushing it to others... I live up in the sierras so for me its awesome. I dont really trout fish, so Im a rare bird for fishing for largemouth....
  3. Carolina rig, with a extra long liter, and a floating soft plastic..
  4. Here as well, those bb paddle tale jr's drive the fish wild!
  5. The biggest fish Ive caught this season were all on Chatterbaits with trailers... And it seems everyone of them was with a different retrieve! Sometimes slow bumping the bottom during the day running slow, sunset times pitching it up to the bank or into cover then running it back to the boat, and after dark burning the surface.... The CB is one of my favorite baits, I really dont think there is a wrong way to use them or a wrong color as long as you just listen to what the fish want at the time...
  6. I started fishing Central and North Texas as a kid in a canoe. Had family members who used to run the tournament trail, so pretty much every weekend someone in my family was fishing the many lakes, or rivers for bucket mouth. So for many years I thought the canoe was the only way to fish, until I walked into Austin Canoe and Kayak in 2005. Walked out with a brand spanking new ocean kayak prowler 13.. Never been the same since. Now 5 yaks later, Im still a proud member of the tupperware navy, Hell, I dont even want a bass boat..Ive hauled my sot's all over the southwest for fun and sport. Kayaking gives me the ability to go where most can't go, easy launching, less money spent, and a ring seat to the action!
  7. yup my smoke casting rod has two broken guides now...Ill be moving on...Nice rods, but if they fall apart that easy Im going with something better when I replace it!
  8. If your yak has a scupper mount here is an option I went with for my trident 13.... http://www.austinkayak.com/products/16959/Humminbird-HELIX-5-Sonar-GPS-Fishfinder-for-Ocean-Kayak.html
  9. If you spend a few minutes searching the forums, you will find all the answers you seek. Ive got a hummingbird helix 5 that I interchange between my 3 yaks, all three of them have different transducer mounts, but I just move the unit between the three when I take that boat out. So best question would be, what type of kayak?
  10. Nope. I feel I need a break TO fish...
  11. Thats it! Some people will spend a ton of money on the best gear possible ( me ) when others just want to get into the sport first with something nice and cheap to see if they really like it... Hell, if I couldn't afford a yak, I would use a pallet to fish off of if it floats!
  12. Its actually a common issue with those boats. Seams leak in the scuppers if IRC...A ton of people have talked about it on forums. I think the reason people dont care and just fix it themselves, is these boats are sold at Walmart, and in that price range you are bound to have problems but they make a great great cheap fishing boats for people who dont use them daily I guess. My buddy loves his, but he also leaves it chained to a tree at our local lake...It sees it as a disposable fishing platform.
  13. Funny you said this. I broke one yesterday. Definitely the weak point of that rod...
  14. In my Kayak I take out 5 rods with me. Two quantum spinning rods with St.Croix avid m/h 7 ft rods, and three bait casters. I started with one Ducket, then went to another, now all three of my casters are using them. The 7'6 m/h cranking rod is awesome!
  15. I did nothing but throw bait for two hours, then the last 20 min before complete darkness I killed it. Two nice 2lber's on a weightless wacky senco pitched under a dock. A 3lb on spinnerbait. Then on the way out a really nice one that Im thinking was around 4 lbs on a Zman chatter bait as I was headed back to my truck..
  16. Yup definitely a summer boat!
  17. A fishing buddy just picked up the same boat this season. Great boat for that cost. Just go ahead and take marine goop to seal it up, he had a ton of leaks prior to doing that, but since its been bone dry. Great lil barge for ponds and small lakes for sure...
  18. I fish too much and spend to much money on it!

Yup the bruiser baits work excellent for me. This seasons pb was caught with them.

Large. Nope wouldn't change a thing. It really works well for my set up. I keep a ton of soft plastic in bins in my shop, so after a trip, I'll come home and restock my Barkley binder with what I used, or change colors for different lakes I will at that week. They actually hold a ton of baits

I actually prefer a binder on my yak. It lets me keep my baits in their original bags, let's me decide how to organize them by "page" so can flip to sencos, or creature baits, or whatever. The Berkeley binder I use also takes up very little space in my yak attack box... Great product! http://www.amazon.com/Berkley-BASBB1490-P-Soft-Bait-Binder/dp/B00C7KMWMK
  22. I currently have all three options in my Tupperware fleet, and the scupper hole or Atak depth hole are by far the most accurate and easiest to deal with.
  23. Here as well. I run 30lb low viz green on everything I own. Love it.
