  1. How about the rod which I plan to spend the most money on...am I right to spend it on the all-around rod?
  2. Honestly I was thinking of using 12lb. flourocarbon...is this line too much for 3/8oz. jigs? Any recommendations?
  3. How about a 704C instead of the 734C...would that be a better all-around rod then?
  4. Okay, I've posted many other posts asking about different rods but I think I've come up with some solutions that should help me cover just about all of my bases on a budget. The rods I'm thinking of are as follows: Cranking Rod: Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Winch, 7ft. M/M, 1/4 - 5/8oz. lure weight @ Amazon.com for Between $60 - $67 (could get it for free if I sign up for an Amazon.com credit card), for 1.5 - 2.5 crankbaits All-Around Rod: Dobyn's Fury 734C, 7ft. 3in. H/F, 1/4 - 1oz. lure weight @ TW for $109, for just about everything (spinnerbaits, jigs, senkos/craws, jerkbaits, spooks, poppers) Topwater/Frog Rod: Berkley Lightning Rod Shock, 7ft. 6in. H/F, 3/4oz. - 2 1/2oz. lure weight @ TW for $54 (maybe less at Wal-Mart), for Whopper Plopper 130's, MS Mini Slammer, Jackall Pompadour, Spro BBZ1 Rat, Savage Gear Suicide Duck and 6" Line Through Trout etc. As you can see based on this assortment I have chosen to spend most of my budget on the all-around rod as it just seems wise since that rod can be used for so many applications/techniques. Conversely I choose to go with a less expensive rod for my larger topwaters as you don't really need the sensitivity for a topwater rod as you can see the blow up so don't necessarily need to feel it that much and really just need a rod with a strong backbone. With the cranking rod I went with the best deal for the money I would have left and the Veritas Winch got good reviews just about everywhere I looked so I went with that. Tell what you think, where did I go wrong? What should I replace (or should I spend the bulk of my budget on one of the other rods instead of the all-around)? Thanks again for any info and opinions!!!
  5. So a shorter rod would be better for stuff like spooks, Sammy's, Evergreen SB's and basically anything that you would want to "walk the dog" with?
  6. If you're looking to fish mostly treble-hook topwater baits like the Whopper Plopper 130, MS Mini Slammer, BBZ 1 Rat etc. is it better to have a shorter rod like say a 6'6" or would a longer rod like a 7' - 7'6" be a better choice?
  7. Do you mean 3/16oz.? The only sizes I see available for the Sniper jig are 3/16, 5/16 and 7/16.
  8. What color scheme is that in your pictures?
  9. @Siebert Outdoors Mike, I am trying to put together an order too and was thinking about the Flukemaster series arky jigs at 3/8oz. but seeing that you recommended the Dredge series in the brush style for grass/weeds and the sniper style for clear water I'm starting to rethink my order...what situations would be best for the Flukemaster series and which for the Dredge and Sniper? Thanks for any info!!!
  10. I ended up ordering the Wood Duck and the Black color patterns in the 110 size. I got a "Flash Sale" promo from DSG yesterday that offered free shipping plus the ducks were on sale 2 for $25 (normally are $15 each) plus a $5 mail-in-rebate from Savage Gear so in essence I got 2 lures for $20 (and saved $10) shipped to my door. I will return the Mallard version and get something else .
  11. Already have some, 2 of the 90's and 3 of the 130's.
  12. Luckily where i fish most there isn't any pike.
  13. I have no clue but since it's a Winch model and made for cranking it will have more of a parabolic bend to it so with the size baits you're talking I would think you'd be fine but what do i know...lol.
  14. So I will use that primarily for baits 1oz and above which in all honesty is the intended purpose for this rod to begin with. I just noticed today that the Veritas has dropped another $5 on Amazon...it's at $59.95 right now :).
  15. I have those too and the duck is very similar to them as far as functionality, it basically has two rotating spinners on the back where the feet are like the WP has at the tail.
  16. I had thought of that too but wondered if others have had more luck with certain colors. I think I'll get the black too for the darker silhouette for night fishing.
  17. Is this because of the fast action? The Irod states it's lure weight range between 1/2oz to 2oz.
  18. For those of you who have the Savage Gear Suicide Duck what colors work best? I wanted the Wood Duck color but my local DSG was out so I picked up the Mallard. I'm thinking of swapping it out when they get the Wood Duck back in. Also thinking getting the black for night fishing. Any info/opinions appreciated!
  19. I'm in a similar position as you and this is the rod I'm thinking of getting...https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QMSR5LG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER. This is the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Winch crank bait rod. Normally these rods sell for $100 and are on sale for $80 at TW but an even better deal here on Amazon.com.
  20. If that's the case the main reason I'd be getting the Irod is for throwing larger treble hook top water baits (i.e.-Whopper Plopper 130, MS Mini Slammer, Spro BBZ 1 Rat etc.), would getting a cranking rod be redundant? The action on the Veritas is Moderate while the action on the Irod is Fast.
  21. So what baits (besides crank baits obviously) would/could you throw with a cranking rod like this?
  22. I have a 7ft. MH/F Abu Garcia ProMax rod, that would probably handle the senko, craw and jigs sufficiently right? Maybe I'll just get the Winch since I can actually get it for free by signing up for an Amazon.com store credit card and get another reel (I already plan on getting a Daiwa Tatula CT 100 for the Irod, Maybe I'll pick up a Pro Qualifier while they are on sale at Bass Pro for $50 to go on the other rod)...hmmm, decisions, decisions...lol.
  23. It was pointed out to me that you wouldn't use a crankbait rod for senkos/craws so while we're at it what is the best power/taper for those too?
  24. Hi all! I am thinking about getting two new casting rods this year, I finally have decided that for my big topwater baits that I love I'll be getting an Irod Fiber 7'5" Fred's Magic Stick for $104 at TW. I am also thinking of getting a rod mostly for crankbaits and other smaller baits like senkos, craws etc. but buying the bigger rod doesn't leave me much of a budget left so I'm looking for a less expensive cranking rod and I've found this Veritas 2.0 Winch 7ft. Medium/Moderate 1/4oz - 3/4oz. lure weight on Amazon.com for $65 shipped. I could also get a Powell Diesel at TW for $55 on sale but they are glass whereas the Veritas is carbon fiber plus they have no warranty and they don't go down quite as far for lighter lures as I'd like at 1/2oz. Which one is the better deal (leaning towards Veritas Winch right now)?
