Senko replacement
How long do you boil them? I bought a bunch of these at my local DSG for wicked cheap, like $1.49 per bag. Where do you get these?

Rod ?
I did and he said it would be great for those. He said the two rods literally use the same blank and the only thing different is guides and handle.
-
Rod ?
I emailed Matt and he replied back saying that the Fiber and the Genesis 2 use the same blank, it's just the handle and guides that are different. Knowing that what would your opinion of the Fiber irod be now?
-
Rod ?
How would their iRod Fiber series compare to the Genesis 2? I see they have the exact same model in both series but the Fiber is within my budget at $109.

Tatula CT Type R? or Tatula CT?
I think the answer based on the replies you've gotten so far is a definitive "no" so unless you're a professional tournament angler where every little edge you can get could mean the difference between thousands of dollars I would say go with the Tatula CT in a 6.3:1 gear ratio and stop torturing yourself...lol.

Rod ?
What power would you recommend for the above listed top water lures than and what rod makers tend to be more accurate with their power ratings?
-
Rod ?
The lures I'm talking about throwing are Whopper Plopper 130, MS Mini Slammer, Spro BBZ1 Rat, Savage Gear 6" line thru trout, Jackall Pompadour (this is a 3/4oz. but it "feels" heavier) etc.

Tatula SV
I thought the regular Tatula CT also does this?
-
Rod ?
Not yet...lol. I have no doubt that Gary knows his stuff, just doing my due diligence and checking out all rods that are in my price range and not focusing on just one brand so I can make an informed decision!

Rod ?
What brands of rods tend to fish heavier than their listed maximum lure weight? I know rods are all rated with "guide lines" for lure weight but I know from listening to others that some tend to fish heavier than their rating (i.e.-can easily handle larger baits than listed by their guide lines) while some tend to fish lighter than their ratings and simply weren't made to fish a bait at the top of their supposed weight ratings. If I can get a quick list of each type rod it will help me make a more informed decision for my next rod selection as I want a rod no longer than 7'6" and no more than $110 that can handle top water baits in the 1oz. - 1.5oz. range without being overpowered. Thanks for any information!!!

Best Daiwa All Around Ratio?
So getting back to the OP's original question...which do you think would be better suited to an all-around gear ratio, 6.3:1 or 7.3:1?
-
Best Daiwa All Around Ratio?
Just think, most high speed spinning reels are right around this range...have you had any success with them? No reason to think it wouldn't be fine on a casting reel either IMO.

Best Daiwa All Around Ratio?
I don't have a Tatula CT but am thinking of getting one soon. I have always been told (whether right or wrong, just what I've been told) that the 6.3 (or .4 or .8) is the best all around gear ratio and can be used for just about everything from deep cranks to spinnerbaits and jigs. Now, will it excel at a particular bait...no, other gear ratios will work better for specific baits but this 6 gear ratio will work good for just about anything. Just my .02 :).

Wait it out?
Okay, I've seen the rumors that Daiwa is coming out with a Tatula SV CT next month, does that mean that I should hold off on buying a regular Tatula CT for now as they may drop significantly in price once the new model comes out? Right now through American Legacy Fishing on eBay i can get one for about $90, think they'll go lower than that?

Best $110 or less casting rod for 1oz. - 1.5oz. topwater/swim baits?
@iabass8 Would the Dobyn's 735C be suitable for these types of baits or would you use something else?

Best $110 or less casting rod for 1oz. - 1.5oz. topwater/swim baits?
Unfortunately there isn't, that is pretty much at the top of my budget!

Best $110 or less casting rod for 1oz. - 1.5oz. topwater/swim baits?
I only have the 1 swimbait (Savage Gear 6" line thru trout). I mostly got it for kicks but all of the others are treble-hooked reaction baits but heavier (to me). I would also like to get the heavier super spooks and JDM's too but again these are all topwater treble hooked lures and that is my favorite type of fishing! I've heard some say that you could use a MH-H cranking rod for these too as they are reaction baits and the taper along with the parabolic bend would give the bass more opportunity to inhale the lure instead of ripping it out of his mouth on the hook set...true?

Thanks Roadwarrior! I looked through most of those threads but couldn't quite find what i was looking for in relation to the size lures I'm talking about...nobody really covered that. I'm hoping some others will chime in with some options.

Best $110 or less casting rod for 1oz. - 1.5oz. topwater/swim baits?
Okay, previously I had asked if the Dobyn's 735C would be a good choice for an all around rod but now realizing that isn't going to happen I decided to focus on a more specific area of technique...topwater! I would like to get the best rod that $110 or less can buy that will handle a 1.5oz topwater/swim bait the best. Any suggestions? Besides the aforementioned Dobyn's I also like the looks of the Okuma TCS 7'3" casting rod as well but I'm sure there are others i don't know about so please help me make an informed decision. Any and all info is greatly appreciated!!!

Dobyns Fury
That would be great! It's hard living in a State with so few tackle shops that actually carry some of the big name brand rods/reels that you can actually go there and try out how they feel in person. Sometimes we have to rely on reviews online before making a purchase. I'm thinking I have a couple of okay rods for smaller stuff already but I'm big into top water and would like to get some into the smaller swim baits in the 1.0 to 1.5oz. range so I would like a rod that can handle those style baits well (even if it's not specifically made for them).

Dobyns Fury
But would it feel like you're casting a brick with a 1.5oz. lure tied on it?
-
Dobyns Fury
Thanks Tom but $150 is a little out of my price range. I also saw an Okuma TCS-C-731H rod and this looks good too, anyone have experience with it?

Dobyns Fury
After looking at the lineup at Tackle Warehouse I really don't want a 7'9" rod and probably the longest I'd still feel comfortable with is the 765Flip...would rather keep it no more than 7'3" though. Would the flip rod do well for those lures I listed?
