  1. Some people have recommended the silent spook (Zara) as the fish don't always like/want a loud knock so should I get both the Zara and the Super Jr.?
  2. What about the regular Zara Spook...any insight on that one?
  3. Great, I'll take one shopping with me and have him show me which ones he likes...lol.
  4. I'm not fishing any deep clear waters though so not sure a clear would be the best choice for me. But what about the different models...Zara Puppy, Zara regular, Super Spook, Spook Jr. etc., etc., which are best?
  5. Brett's_daddy posted a topic in Fishing Tackle
So upon numerous recommendations that i add a Spook lure to my top water arsenal i see that there are several different models of spooks...which one is best? I am initially thinking that the Zara Spook would be best because it's got the right size at 4-1/2" and it's silent (already have a knocker in my Sammy's so wanted to be different) but reading reviews lot's of people like the Super Spook Jr. too. Not really sure which one i should get so some helpful advice would be appreciated!!!
  6. That sounds doable...maybe even something like a paperclip and tie the skirt material to that and thread it through.
  7. Can you get new skirt legs for frogs? It was a case of not reading all the way through an article and i thought i read where they said to trim the legs down to about an inch so I did but upon re-reading slower this time I see where it says to trim each leg by 1 inch...not down to 1 inch . Can I put new legs on a frog (it's a Boo-Yah Poppin' Pad Crasher)?
  8. The Bubble Walker is a walking/popping type lure. I may add another popper type in the future (actually heard that the KVD Splash is really good as well as the Jackall SK Grande Pop). I do have a hollow bodied frog...a Boo-Yah Pad Crasher...but it's not the best out there and I'm sure that a Spro Dean Rojas Bronzeye 65 OR King Daddy would be MUCH better. How about any of the options I listed...are any of those necessary additions at this point?
  9. Okay, I have decided that my favorite bass fishing technique is top water and have focused on trying to assemble a decent collection that will cover most instances within that technique. For loud, splashy lures I have River2sea Whopper Plopper's in the 90/130 sizes and I have a couple of Jackall Pompadours (the bigger size), for noisy walking lures I have a couple of River2sea Bubble Walker 80's on order, for more subtle walking lures I have a couple of Lucky Craft Sammy 100's. My question is this...if you could get only a couple more lures to round out this collection would you get... A.) another set of more subtle walking lures like the Duo Realis Pencil 110 B.) a slightly noisier walking bait like the Lucky Craft Gunfish 115 C.) another noisy walking lure like the Evergreen Shower Blows 105/125? I know, decisions, decisions...of course I'd LOVE to get ALL of them but unfortunately my budget is maxing out along with the wife's patience...lol. Any helpful opinions would be appreciated!!!
  10. I would get either a River2sea Bubble Walker 80 or a Strikepro Thunder Pop...both can be had on eBay for around $7 - $8. I myself just went with 2 of the Bubble Walkers after being really tempted by the Pop Max but I just can't bring myself to gamble with a $20 bait!
  11. Nah, that's part of the thrill...lol.
  12. Well, I ended up going with the River2sea Bubble Walker 80 in the Loon and Powder colors. Thanks to all who have helped me figure out some answers to my lure debates .
  13. Not to get off topic but has anyone tried the Academy Sports H2O baits that look like Sammy and Gunfish clones? The reviews say they work awesome and for a fraction of the price of genuine Lucky Craft baits. I mean they look identical and one reviewer even said that one of the designers of Lucky Craft baits is now designing these H2O baits...not sure if it's true but dang, not sure if i could tell the difference if they were side by side.
  14. So would a Lucky Craft Gunfish be similar to an Evergreen Shower Blows lure as far as sound and action? I like variety in my lures without too much crossover in order to cover the most techniques/situations.
  15. So if you wanted a more natural look you'd go with the regular Perch? The GG appears a little gold-ish too from the pictures while the regular looks a little more green which is what the perch around me look like. I just wanted to see if what I was seeing online translated into what the actual lure looks like in person.
  16. Sexy Shad without a doubt for clear water and for darker water the Chartreuse Black Back!
  17. So what is the color scheme difference between the two versions of Perch? It's hard to tell sometimes from an online picture and thought maybe somebody who has both versions or has seen them in person could tell me what the real difference is.
  18. I honestly have to say about $400 a year. This includes rods and reels too. I do try to save bigger stuff like rods and reels and even some of the pricier lures for Christmas, birthdays, Father's Day, Anniversary etc. so that it technically doesn't come out of my own pocket, I also go down twice a year to visit my Dad who lives in Pennsylvania near the Cabelas store in Hamburg, PA and him and my stepmom always treat us to a few purchases there (they have a Cabelas card so a majority of those are covered with the points). For example this year I bought two reels out of pocket, one cost $80 and the other would have cost the same but I got it on sale for $40 so there's $120 right there and I've easily spent another $200 on lures, line and miscellaneous stuff like tackle bags and trays. I would LOVE to be able to afford $300 per MONTH in tackle but unless i win the lottery that's not gonna' happen anytime soon...lol.
  19. Wouldn't a Bubble Walker or Popper function the same as this lure?
  20. So does the Bubble walker actually "pop" too or not as much. I think i have my top water lures just about covered. I scored 2 Lucky Craft Sammy 100's for $16 which makes them each $8 and I find that reasonable. Would the Bubble Walker be redundant to the Sammy or is it completely different? I feel I need something that pops and makes a good sound when doing it as well as sprays a good amount of water...wavering if i should go with the Bubble Popper or Walker?
  21. Yeah, I've decided that top water is really my favorite bass fishing technique. The wife likes shoes and watches, I like bass lures...in a perfect world that would be at least an equal trade-off but as us married guys know their wants and likes always seemed to be justified while our bass lures get deemed a frivolous expense...lol. I hear what you say about used baits and such,,,seems like it's hit or miss though on the Flea Market and if you're really after a bait you may have to buy new unless you just want to wait it out until one appears for sale. I actually did just score a good deal on eBay...a lot of 2 Lucky Craft Sammy 100's for $14, those usually cost that much each so I basically got them both for $7 which i thought was reasonable .
  22. My wife just caught a 4lb. large mouth on the Perch the other night. Her's was a slow but steady retrieve. I wasn't having any luck with my Jackall Pompadour but to be honest it wasn't the proper conditions for the Pompadour which people say is best to throw in windy conditions and that night was very calm. I took her rod and threw out and caught a 2lb. myself and there were at least 2 - 3 strikes that didn't hook up too.
  23. Yeah, not into fishing rivers and streams...just ponds and small lakes. I wouldn't mind catching smallmouth but since we generally eat our catch (unless they are dinks) m y wife has heard that the mercury content in smallmouth is high so she won't eat them. It's mostly largemouth that we're after and I also would be using a spinning rod setup for the poppers right now.
  24. So I know I want a couple of poppers, lookin' hard at the River2sea Bubble Pop because of the good price point on eBay but the Duo Realis Pop 64 and the Megabass Pop Max are both in play too. The question is, when comparing a 2.5" popper vs. 3.5" popper does the size difference really matter...as in will you get bigger bass with the bigger popper?
