  1. I use a double Palomar knot exclusively on braid with no problems. Uni knot becomes a mess for me on braid. Have a friend who wasn't used to fishing braid and was using his normal gorrilla slam hookset and blaming the line for his lost fish finally had to contact powerpro to convince him he was wrong. (Hardhead)
  2. I have the luxury of having multiple friends that are as hardcore or harder than me when it comes to fishing. This is great most of the time sun up to sun down but turns into a double edge sword when it's your turn to take friend x in your boat but you want to go with friend y in theirs or maybe you have been going with friend x the last three times but owe friend y a trip so on so forth. You end up trying to decide or flipping a coin not to mention when you want to go by yourself. I really don't mind fishing with my wife I fish she does whatever but it only happens once or twice a year with a three yr old and a teenager time gets short splitting it between everyone
  3. Rapala. Dt 4 and sk 1.5 as long as it's not sexy shad. I also use a #5 shad rap shallow it's one of my favorite ant time of the year it will catch fish. Bandits can never be counted out either

    Thanks guys
  5. Another vote for the telescoping type. They work in trees above and below the water and a far less cumbersome to use than a knocker IMO
  6. Depps buzzjet. I have read numerous posts raving about them being so good but mine doesn't catch fish. But I love anything rapala
  7. You say you want to keep the same hook setup but changing to a heavier hook is one way I add weight to a fluke I've also used the nailweights and weighted flutter hooks along with smaller weighted swim bait hooks
  8. After reading the link that bdfishing posted I'm not sure I will cut the handle. I tye jigs, flies, and make a few crankbaits as a hobby mainly during the winter, but I'm clueless when it comes to rod building. I just wanted to remove 2 or 3 inches of the rod butt because it hits past my elbow and makes for awkward casting. I didn't notice it in the shop when I bought it along with 2 shorter rods ( just assumed it was the same length as the 7`4`` rod I originally picked up )now it's a wall hanger. I guess I need to do some research before I destroy it.
  9. Can't quite get that precision cut with the car door yet although I do have some practice at it
  10. I have an 8 ft phenix casting rod that I would like to shorten. The handle is just ackward to me and I would like to shorten it. What would be the preferred method to do this? (Cut with bandsaw?) what glue or epoxy do you use to replace the but cap? This handle is a mixture of Eva and cork if but the part I'll be cutting is foam. All suggestions are appreciated. This rod is new I bought it about a yr and a half ago only fished it twice due to the handle issue just don't want to end up with a $200 junk jig pole thanks
  11. The skeeter would be your best bet in my opinion due to the ability to resell it if the need arises. I personally fish from a tracker 175 that was a deal I couldn't pass up and it works fine for me, but I fish tournaments occasionally with friends that own stratos,Phoenix, and nitros and the nitros are the least favorite around here. Personally I like the new stratos boats the best but just can't make myself take the plunge on a new boat right now. Good luck with whichever one you choose their all fun to run in my book
  12. Been watching BR videos for awhile now and never thought about them having a forum until today so here's my intro. My name's Anthony and I'm a tackle junky. I enjoy amateur tackle building and bass fishing whenever I can. So hello to you all and good fishing.
  13. I checked out the Loomis 6x rods this weekend and was tempted to buy one but after placing the *** reel I am going to use on it I changed my mind. The combo felt really tip heavy and didn't balance out. I went with a phenix m1 rod that felt very balanced and light with that reel, so I second the advice above. You'll get a better feel for what will work together if your able to go to a shop and try different rod and reels paired together. This seems like common sense but until recently I never practiced this. I would pick up a rod here and a reel there then end up switching everything out multiple times or with another rod hung on the wall that I never could get comfortable with.
