  1. I suppose it could be a function of depth. ..i.e. max depth uses much more power than the 45' I'm using it at.
  2. I bought a Bote Ahab to get me all kinds of places where feet or even most boats can't go. That's a paddleboard in case you didn't know.
  3. At first I thought this was a typo, until I saw the ad for it... I just bought some last night.
  4. How does this work? How can my 500watt rms power fish finder only consume 5 watts? Haven't found a good explanation yet. Or any explanation really.
  5. Almost caught another last night. He hit my frog 2 times but missed both times. This frog fishing is awesome.
  6. 14' bote ahab Fish finder equipment
  7. I'm thinking this way 5 weeks into learning how to bass fish. My major shortcoming is controlling my casts. I can't put it where i want to but about 25% of the time. I just got blowed up on today for the third day in a row in the weeds. The fish completely missed my frog twice today though. He didn't seem to want to try a third time.
  8. $200 for a paddle and $550 for rooftop rack gear is what I paid. Doesn't leave much of that $1000 budget for kayak. Roof rack gear will run a pretty penny. - nvrmd. See that you have the rood rack covered.
  9. Braid (30lb) has worked infinitely better on my baitcaster than 17lb mono did.
  10. ^ hey thanks JS! Yeah I came to some of those same realizations. I just frog fished my way to 3 fish that were 2+ lbs in tbe last two days! That was after several hours of worm fishing and not catching anything. That might not be anything to some, but for me, it's validation after many long days of learning how to bass fish in the last 5 weeks. I'm super excited at the thought of frogging some more bass soon.
  11. Caught my third one tonight after work. 5 minutes worth of casts and I moved on to a new spot and then I saw action back where I was just casting so I cast right on top of the splash and BOOM! I was so focused on not setting the hook too early that I never set it! I just pulled a little and reeled fast. The hook got him on the mouth, I guess he never got it in his throat. 2 more hours and not a sign of another bass in the grass.
  12. Wish I could catch that many in an afternoon.
  13. Me too man! Check out my thread for details! I didn't need to do any frog walking or like that. ..and setting the hook was a lot more natural this time because i actually knew something was on the line for sure!
  14. Little white spotted frog booyah branded... I'd been fishing for four + hours and nearly nothing to show for it. I was getting hungry and feeling miserable. I said to myself, I wanna throw this frog in the weeds that I just got through throwing a t rig worm into less than an hour ago. Even though I fished this frog for 3 hours last week for the first time ever and not a bite...I just wanted to throw it some before I finished this annoying fishless day. I was throwing it like a zombie. No cadence, no special attention, just hocking it to and fro. Then very unexpectedly, boom! I saw a swish in the water and I felt tension on the 30lb braided line. I set the hook and reeled and reeled, and I couldn't believe I was about to land this 2+ lb spotted bass. I was so excited and I didn't have my net ready and as soon as I got it to the paddleboard deck it threw the hook! Oh no, I fought with it and finally pinned it to the deck while I fumbled around for my net...I almost lost it twice! I put him in my seat cooler and he was the fighting-est fish I'd ever caught. I was relieved to be sitting on the cooler lid finally. I remembered all the videos saying "all the fish in an area are doing the same thing" so I went to the other hot spot that I just knew a bass was in, threw the frog off in the weeds and it wasn't 3 casts later I landed another 2 + pounder! This time my net was ready and he was hooked deeper in the throat. That was a super exciting first time experience for me. I never imagined I would ever land a bass on a frog from the hours I'd spent flinging that thing to get nothing. I wish I'd had a video of those catches so I could watch it again.
  15. First big bass came last Tuesday, 2lb 2oz 16.5" plumper. T rig small ribbon tail watermelon worm in about 10-15 ft of murky river water. It was quite exciting pulling him up from the bottom depths and watching my line move back and forth as I reeled away.
  16. Kayak and stand up paddle boards use no gas at all.
  17. I just started fishing 5 weeks ago and the texas rig is getting it done while spinners, buzzbait, crankbait, jig, and a few others just aren't getting me any fish. Just caught my pb 2 lb 2 oz spotted bass on a t rig two days ago.
  18. Sounds fishy to me. 200 fish, 80 fish, all over 6lbs, 10 pounders repeatedly.... My best day in the 5 or so weeks that I've been fishing was today! 3 bass, big on 2lb 2 oz 16.5" long. It was a big belly bass.
  19. ^believe it or not my girlfriends grand father was a legend in the fish and game world especially here in Alabama. ..he wrote books on it,they're in her library and I've been introduced to them...reading will be winter work for me. Cant be stuck inside reading during these summer months.
  20. Well I ended a week long draught tonight! It was exciting to pull two 13 and a half inchers out of the river on a t rigged worm. I could have caught several more if I'd been a better fisher. The bites were on at about 6:30/7 pm. I was beginning to wonder if I was ever gonna catch another fish again! I went back to the bank where I caught my first bass 3 weeks ago and threw worms to the edge of the bank and dragged them back to the board real nice and slow. I missed several bites and saw a fish try to hit my worm as i was fast reeling to make another cast but he missed it. I'm glad I bought a net last weekend because they were both hard to handle when I got them back to the board to take the hooks out. I didn't net my first, and looking back, it was amazing that I didn't lose him without a net.
  21. If it's small enough and few enough hiding/cover areas I would guess that it's a possibility for bass to have decimated all other fish population.
  22. I prefer coves on big water, that way I'm isolated from the traffic but still have massive fish potential.
  23. You can buy as much paddleboard as you want for stability. I started with a 12' board and then moved up to the ultra stabile 14' Bote Ahab. You can bring a cooler to sit on when you wanna relax.
  24. Thanks for the replies. I work with guys who get bass 10 times if they go fishing 10 times. That's what I want. At least get nibbles or an indication that I'm doing something right. This one fish per 8-10 hours of fishing isn't cutting it. I guess I need to find where the bass are at first.
