  1. Yea I was catching pretty big pickeral around 19 in. The bass I caught was a decent size too.
  2. Was wondering if bass and pickeral hang out? The other day I was fishing a drop off and my first fish was a bass, then I caught two big pickeral after that from the same area. No bass after that. Just wondering if after I'm catching nothing but pickeral should I stay or find another spot for bass.
  3. The fish were not biting today and I couldn't figure out what they wanted. So as I sat on my kayak I got to thinking..maybe they are in their summer pattern and have gone deep. Deep in my lake is MAYBE 12 ft. The bottom is very grassy so I normally try to stay away from throwing things down there. Almost never throw jigs in lakes around here (eastern VA). So using my fish finder I began paddling around looking for any channels or just change in depth. I decided to try a technique everyone speaks about but I've never had any luck or really tried...the famous texas rigged worm. Threw on a junebug worm on there (my go to, but usually i wacky rig it) with a small bullet weight...The bite was on after that. Ended the day with 4 bass and 3 large pickerel one being 19", and many other pecks. Looking forward to trying this more tomorrow, any tips would be appreciated!!
  4. I've had it for a few months now and have not caught one fish on it, i get plenty of blowups but no hookups...then again I dont do well with frogs either lol I did buy the larger model, if anything I would get the smaller bait instead of the larger one.
  5. I fish Lee hall and Harwood mills a lot when I don't wanna go far. They both have decent fishing once you figure them out. If you go a little further north you can fish diascund reservoir, chickahominy lake/river.
  6. water level is back up to where it normally is, at least it was about a month ago. They have some good sized bass there, I've caught my biggest way past the second bridge in a stump field. I've also caught a 25" bowfin (and my only one) there. I haven't figured that place out completely, so cant help you too much. hope you found some good ones!
  7. I've had my best luck there on bluegill crankbaits, and my biggest came out of there using a chatterbait on a rainy day during pre-spawn! Just shy of 7lbs!
  8. i dont think the grass is too bad yet, a friend of mine was there last weekend and he said it wasn't too bad. I'm actually doing a tournament in richmond starting tomorrow. How long are you gonna be down here?
  9. They have a whole season, the two closest to us would be time James river tournament and the Potomac river tournament. Here's the link to next years schedule, you can find more info from good site as well. http://www.pva.org/site/c.ajIRK9NJLcJ2E/b.9392423/k.1A8B/Bass_Tour_201617_schedule.htm
  10. Let me know what he says, hope it's nothing to serious, good luck! Man I just got killed because of a shoulder injury! Lol You're right..it's more than likely ED...dang. Lol Lmao, im still young and I'm already falling apart! Take care of yourself! Thanks for the info and help, I'll set something up to get checked!
  11. Any boat owners looking to help out the Paralyzed Veterans of America PVA tour on James river this Friday and Saturday? They are currently 10 boaters short and looking for help. Tournament Contact:Dan Watkins919-880-4858bassingwheels@nc.rr.com
  12. I agree with him, after spending hundreds of hours reading articles/forum topics, sometimes I'm fishing and a situation presents itself that I might have read about one time. It just comes to me and I try whatever that bit of knowledge told me to try. My best advice is read and do research, a lot of the things I've learned was from watching youtube videos. I wasn't raised fishing, I taught myself once i joined the military.
  13. Recently I've noticed after a while on the water, ranges on amount of time, I start getting a burning pain with a sharp pain at a point. It's near my shoulder, more more trap area/rear shoulder.Anyone have any ideas? I'm in shape, workout 4-5 days a week. Usually I just push through it, but I almost stopped fishing this morning because of it...almost lol.
  14. awesome, really looking forward to getting one. There is a demo day happening about 2 hrs from here that I'm going to. They said most kayaks are sold with a discount on these demo days, do you guys know if its a big discount??
  15. I do the same thing, i read an article that said the hook up ratio when the hook is parallel to the bait is a lot less than when its perpendicular. the bait sort of "hides" the hook when its parallel to it.
  16. Any one own or have experience with this kayak, really thinking of getting one and I've seen nothing but good reviews for it. The only issue I've seen is that because of where the rod holder holes are, the seat is right against them when the seat is in the higher position. Easy fix with a little fishermen ingenuity lol
  17. Its been a great week of fishing, probably the best I've ever had. I think the fish are really starting to bite, maybe they are just hungry right now. take advantage!!! haha good luck!
  18. Took them out and everyone caught something it was a great time! One of them even caught a bowfin! Just thought I'd give a follow up
  19. I've fished there a few times and I've had some decent days there but I want to show these new fishermen a great time. Any tips for the area? I want to make sure their first kayak fishing trip is a good one for them and help them fall in love with this sport. I was planning on hitting the cypress trees and any weed lines I find, I've had lots of luck recently throwing worms by cypress trees. Anyone been there lately? Hows the grass, is it super high yet?? Thanks for help!!
  20. Went fishing in the rain on monday and had the best day I've ever had here in VA, there wasn't much cover to throw frogs tho. I had them all hit on a wacky rigged worm.
  21. I'm with him, some of my worst days have been saved thanks to a weightless wacky rigged worm, usually junebug color.
  22. Just looked up where that is, its only 1hr 45 from here, might make that drive sometime!
  23. Im with you on that, the places around here are way over fished and aren't really taken care of. So catching 5 in a day isa good day on waters around here. I like keeping track just to see how many I can catch in a year. Im pretty new at fishing so every fish i catch is an adventure for me haha
  24. i went fishing Monday and it rained the whole time I was in a small creek where the water was no deeper than 3 ft. I target trees with a wacky worm and had one of the best fishing days I've ever had. The water was stained with maybe a foot of visibility. hope this helps some.
  25. I might have to start a log as well but what all info do you guys keep besides what you caught, what you caught him on, and maybe temperature? could someone maybe put a screenshot of the excel sheet they were talking about or a pic of their log for ideas?? Thanks again! you beat me to it haha could i get a copy of that!?
