  1. @Nitrofreak this was awesome man, I love the passion you have for fishing. That's what its all about, learning, trying and personally pushing yourself to be better. This year I focused on using worms and man its completely changed the way I fish. Just started trying shakey heads and I've had some crazy good days on the water. I love learning and I also love failing because it teaches me what not to do or how to better do things.
  2. Wacky for me, a wacky rigged 4" junebug worm is my go to. I've caught 80% of fish this year on wacky. I rarely go t-rigged, I just don't have luck with it don't know why. It also catches all sizes, ive caught my citation fish on a 4in wacky rigged worm.
  3. So its been raining all week and its expected to rain until Friday night. Saturday is supposed to be nice, probably cloudy/sunny. My thinking is, the bass have been eating throughout the week since its been nice and cloudy and not too cool, the weather hasn't really changed too much just rain. I have a feeling Saturdays fishing is going to be a bit rough. What do you guys think?? This past weekend was nice and the topwater bite was awesome all weekend, really hoping that its the same this weekend!
  4. great advice, sometimes you have to give them that extra second. I've had some small bass really smack my worm and I was surprised when I pulled it up. When I feel the bump, I drop my rod, reel in all the slack, watch that the line is moving (sometimes its not) then I swing away. Recently I noticed that I was missing fish and noticed I was sweeping to the side (like I do with a crankbait or topwater) instead of setting the hook straight up. Try setting the hook straight up instead of to the side? That might help. Good luck man!! Welcome to the addiction!
  5. @Sam I'm pretty new to bass fishing and he's always been there to answer any question I might have. I can say I'm a better angler thanks to him. @A-Jay probably one of the most knowledgeable guys on here. Would love just to sit and learn.
  6. Help, Lake has lots of grass mats, also the bottom is very grassy. Middle of the Lake is about 8 ft. Lots of cypress trees in the middle where I have most of my luck. Water has dropped about 3 ft and it's gonna be windy tomorrow. With this storm, it had the fish suspended yesterday, any ideas on what I can do? Lol
  7. So I was fishing in 3 ft of water and cast until inches of water because a stick was sticking out, sure enough a 16" bass destroyed my shakey head! Lol
  8. So I ended up buying a spray sealant that is also water proof. I've put a good number of coats on it and it did not run or smudge. @Darren. I'm gonna try not to use it for baseball haha
  9. Jacob Wheeler, Mike Iaconelli, and Adrian Avena signed my rod today. I need help tho, how can I seal them onto my pole. Clear nail polish didn't work, began smearing so I quickly stopped. Any ideas!?
  10. the best time i've had luck with them was if i see bass blowing up, or spooking bait fish, i throw the turtle right in the middle of all that and it seems like i always get a bite.
  11. well then..that tells me all I need to know haha
  12. yea the other day (Sunday) I was fishing a river, and I couldn't get a solid bite, then I went into a shallow pocket 3 ft of water, and boom caught my first keeper 15.5 inches. haha I was like man...these fish should be deep with how hot it is. Guess I'll give those mats a try, I just cant tell if there is space under those mats...guess there is only one way to find out. thanks for the advice guys.
  13. There are grass mats in the lakes I fish in about 2-3 feet of water. The surface temperature of the water has been between 89-93 degrees. I haven't tried fishing grass because I've been having luck fishing deep structure (which is new to me), and I just think it would be way too hot under those mats. What do my pros on here think? Thanks for the advice!
  14. I wacky worm fish a lot and I realized my sensitivity takes a hit the longer my flouro leader is. I do always use a leader tho, helps my worms fall more naturally.
  15. Went ahead and put in at blackwater landing early Friday morning. As soon as I got there I noticed almost no activity on top of the water. I only caught one bass, with a few bumps that felt like bluegill. Tried Lilypads, cypress trees, lay downs, etc. River just seemed dead, not sure what was going on. Don't think I'll be making that hour drive again...even tho I did enjoy the change of scenery and the back road driving
  16. Looking to bass fish a river or creek with a lot of timber or structure or overhanging brush etc. Any ideas near Suffolk/Hampton/Newport News area? I fish out of a kayak so I don't need a boat ramp. Just want a change of scenery from the popular lakes. Thanks! I've thought of trying the blackwater river near Suffolk. I want something like that
  17. Ive heard, I dont fish that side to often, dont have much luck. We should meet up some time and try to slay the mythical underwater dragons that have evaded us haha
  18. I use that Gamakastu wacky weedless hook 3/0, i feel the bump real down until i see the line moving then I sweep set. I dont set as hard as i can but i dont use just the reel and bend of the rod to set the hook for me. I have yet to pull a hook out of a fish and my hook up ration recently has been very good, i've only lost 2 fish out of about 20. I use braid with a flouro leader.
  19. she keeps it up I'm taking my diving gear in there lol
  20. thats where it happened...I think this bass is a genius..haha
  21. Paddling back in from a evening of fishing and decided to hit the last stump on the way in. I cast my little wacky rigged worm and watched as the line sunk. I felt a very very slight tap, reeled down to the fish and set the hook like I've done hundreds of times...Bam! Fish on! I watched as my line ran to the right but didnt notice that the line was rising, if i would have noticed i would have tried to keep the fish from jumping. I see the fish jump and everything goes into slow motion...I have, to this day never seen a bass so big, it was easily 7 or 8 lbs. I'm pretty sure it flipped me off with his fin as he went back into the water. To add salt to the wound he threw my worm right back at me and it hit me in the head...this bass has made it personal now. I'll be going back to try and see if I can even up the score...definitely a fish of a lifetime. Like I told my wife, its fish like that, that keep us going back day after day. I haven't had a fish spit my hook in weeks...it would be this ONE to do it haha
  22. We ended up going and putting in at lake anna's visitor center. Then we headed south along the rip rap then under the bridge. One thing I noticed was how aggressive and big the bluegill were, they were destroying my wacky-rigged senko. Almost every cast I was feeling the bluegill, sometimes they would hit so hard that they would pull my pole down haha so if anyone wants some good bluegill fishing this is the spot. We then went into an arm and tried to hit docks with no luck. We found ourselves in a 3-4ft flat and where there was structure I could see bass roaming but could not get them to bite. That was pretty frustrating. The only bass I caught was a small guy right off a grassline. Really wish I would have read all this before I went up there because I would have gone north instead of south to find some of those lily fields and grass mats. I would have felt more comfortable fishing that area. The lake being so clear also threw me off, im used to fishing stained to muddly lakes down here. I did try fishing drop offs near shallow water but had no luck, I was using a 7" ribbontail worm. We didn't stay long because the gentleman I was fishing with got really dehydrated and sick about 3 hrs in so we had to call it a day early. Really hoping to get out there again and try the north side of the lake. @Sam, guess the whole one fish anna comment you said once stuck haha. @nitrofreak thanks so much for all that information ill take it all into consideration next time im out there!
  23. Planning on doing a whole day trip up there with a fellow kayaker. Read most articles that are on here about Lake Anna just wanna see if anyone has any tips of where to put in and where good places for kayak fishing is. Are bass already deep for the summer? I've never been to that Lake so anything will help! Thanks guys!
  24. I've heard people do eat them they are just bony, and i enjoy catching the bigger pickerels because they do put up a good fight! Specially when they come flying out of the water! The other day i set the hook on one and had to dodge it as it came flying towards me haha i had one jump straight into my kayak once.
