Which bearings to replace?
Heavy grease will give a cushioning effect between the two fairly large gear teeth when they mesh. As they mesh they glide against each other just a bit. With light oil you will feel this much more than you should. This may or may not be what you are feeling. It is just one idea.

Which bearings to replace?
Did you use heavy grease on the main gear/pinion gear teeth? Or light oil?

Does gear really affect proforma nice?
If you like driving a standard over an automatic I think you will like using a bait caster. Good analogy. I always suggest buying a good solid used bait caster from the flea market here or that big auction site. Do some research and know what a decent price is for your chosen model. If for any reason you do not like the bait caster you can usually re sell it for the same price as what you paid. You also get better value this way. You can get a $200 reel for $100 usually etc...

What A Lousy Vacation
I've had three lower back surgeries. Each one was targeted at relieving pain and numbness in my right leg. The first one many years ago was a fairly large incision which is what hurt the most. The last one was arthroscopic and it was much much better! I hope they are able to do yours that way. I hate to say this to you but once you hurt your back it starts a degenerative process. You can hold this off with the exercises and stretches they will give you. Do these religiously. Learn to lift things correctly with your legs and say no often to lifting something too heavy. Things will get better but they may not get back to pre surgery... but I pray they will.

Texas Rigged Jig?
Thanks everyone. I think I found what I need. I have supreme confidence in a Texas rigged worm so now I'm going to add a skirt from Paycheck Baits and experiment with different trailers. I have no need for punching because the lakes i fish have no surface grass or pads so I don't need heavy weights. I have 0 confidence in a jig so maybe this will be my transition drug.

Texas Rigged Jig?
Thank you Catt. Very interesting. I love a story that starts out "It all started back in the 70's..." Good stuff. I'd rather not buy a whole new batch of tungsten weights with skirt collars. It looks like they are made only in heavier (1/2 oz and up) sizes. My internet search came up with Paycheck Baits Punch Skirt http://www.***.com/Paycheck_Baits_Punch_Skirts_2pk/descpage-PBPS.html It looks like I can add just a skirt to any standard Texas Rig as it looks like it just has a plastic collar with a smallish hole for your line to pass through. Knock knock... bait monkey is at the door. I gotta go answer it...

Texas Rigged Jig?
Member Catt mentioned a Texas rigged jig. I have never heard of this. Can anyone explain in detail?

Question about summertime bass.
Catt, How do you make a Texas rigged jig? I'm going to post this question in the Fishing Tackle section of this forum so as not to hijack this thread. Please tell me everything there. I'm very intrigued...

Twerling Flukes and a missed oppertunity.
Think of a weightless fluke is a soft jerk bait as opposed to a paddle tail swim bait. If you just twitch it it will dart around without moving forward much while sinking slowly which is a killer technique. Look up the "donkey rig" if you want to really make it have crazy action..

Wire Gauge for Navigation Lights
Thank you. Why a glass fuse? The area my battery is in isn't water resistant unfortunately. The only water resistant fuse holders I can find hold the blade type fuses. Are they ok to use?

Work problems
Don't let them steal your joy. If you let them they have won. Maybe for whatever reason they don't want you there anymore and are trying to get you to walk away voluntarily so you can't claim unemployment. You've been there a long time. Do you have special expertise you can take to the next level? Work for a supplier to company's like yours? Can you consult industry wide? Sometimes it's just time to move on. Most of the time one looks back and says why didn't I do this sooner? Good luck. Keep us posted.

Lead or Tungsten
In the rocky reservoir that I fish I believe the tungsten makes a bit of a louder noise when it is coming through the rocks. I would like to assume this draws fish from farther away but have no way to prove it. Do your own experiment though... take one of each into a swimming pool and listen to them underwater as you tap them on the side. The Tungsten has a "sharper" tone. I like that it is friendly to the environment too. I'll finish with this.... Ahhh grashappah.... you stand before the temple of fishing with two doors in front of you.... which do you choose...? No one can answer the question for you.. you must choose on your own.....

Lure Photography - Opinions Needed
I was a graphic designer in my previous life and that photo is visually stunning. I agree that if it's an action shot you are after the bait (lure) should tell that story as well. Line tied as if it were being fished in the water and the hooks swept back. Look for videos on YouTube of crank baits under water and you will get a good idea. The hooks might even be blurred to show the action. Great great start!

Should I invest?
Ahhhh grasshopper... you stand before the temple of fishing with two doors in front of you.....which one do you take...? That is the age old question every fisherman or woman gets around to asking himself sooner or later. The answer is.... you can only decide for yourself...

crank baits at night
Look for any places that have lights on all night. I don't know if the river you fish has docks or park lights etc. These draw bait fish night after night which of course draw the bass and other predators. The one difficulty I ran into was knowing where my bait was in relation to my rod tip. In other words without being able to see the bait coming to the boat I ran it into my tip guide more than once. (You didn't say if you were bank or boat fishing). Think top water baits that float the splash so you will know where the bait is. Or Texas rigged soft plastics that can soak in the water as you work them. If there is enough light from a full moon or city lights some or none of this will apply but I'm trying to cover different angles. If you are in a boat and can float with the current you might think of hanging a 12v fish light over the side and into the water. I've done this many times and it really helps me see the bait come to the boat. I've caught many fish doing this and am convinced the light does not "scare" the fish. It's like the bug to the zapper... they just can't help but be drawn to it. It gave a really nice glow under the boat that was actually very calming and relaxing. There are led varieties around for under $30. You'll figure it out. Just bring options. If you are on a boat have your nav lights working with back up bulbs etc and lots of flash lights or cap lights.
