Thanks for all the information guys. I'm headed out to table rock this weekend so I will definitely be trying to boost confidence in chucking a spinnerbait. I've heard they are biting pretty well on them around the James river arm so we will see

I've been fishing for quite a while and never really had much confidence in a spinnerbait. I started making myself throw it last spring and boosted my confidence to where I usually have one on the deck. My question is when should you use a soft plastic trailer (boogie tail/split tail)? I don't use trailer hooks that often but if I'm getting short strikes I will put one on. Do you use a plastic trailer with a trailer hook?

This weekend was a big weekend for me. Put up the peg board and organized what I could with the few pegs I had to make room for the new boat (new to me). My first boat and I couldn't be any happier.

There are some big ones in there. Visibility is usually <1 foot and can get pretty chocolaty. That being said I've had better luck on okeechobee craw than any other color there

I just have to keep making sure it's still there

Fished grindstone this morning for a while. Solid jig bite on the rocks but that's all that was going on. Managed a few keepers. Had a lot better morning than the duck hunters around there

Went home and did a little more measuring and the opening is 9ft wide. Length won't be an issue and height won't be either unless I want to put talons on it

So I am looking to buy my first boat and have just realized a bit of a problem. The home I bought has two single garage doors that are 8ft wide. I found an awesome deal on a 99 tr-19 and I'm pretty certain it won't fit. Specs on the boat say 7'7" beam but other people I've talked to say all bass boats are a 96" beam. If it does fit it will be a super tight squeeze. I'd hate to loose an awesome deal because I can't fit it in my garage but at the same time I'm not going to leave it outside. What's the smallest garage door you think it will fit in? Is there any other boats out there close in quality that would have a more narrow beam that would fit?

So I need to get a couple new reels because I have received two new rods as wedding gifts. One of them is a mud hole MHX FS904 and the other I'm not sure of because I haven't seen it yet all I know is its a custom rod made from a loomis NRX equivalent blank. The two reels I'm getting are the curado 70 and metanium mgl or chronarch CI4+ (I already have one and love it) My question is how much drag power do you gain from upgrading to carbontex drag washers? What is the overall improvement? Being that I'd like to use the curado 70 to flip with on the FS904 and 10lbs of drag doesn't seem to cut it for me, theoretically. Anyone that can give me some info is much appreciated.

There are really many different answers to your question. If your main goal is to see directly underneath you and get an idea what the fish are doing and see some structure basic 2D sonar is a great option. Also depends on what you're fishing out of. If you have a bass boat your electronics will greatly differ than that of someone fishing out of a kayak. In my opinion basic 2D sonar with GPS are the two most important features available. In the case you do have a bass boat typically most guys run two units. Side imaging is an excellent tool to have at the console because it really allows you to locate pieces of structure that are going to hold fish. In my opinion anything more than down imaging on the trolling motor is a waste. I know some guys that try to run side imaging on the trolling motor but it's very difficult because every time you turn your TM you change the direction your transducer is shooting the frequency. For a guy on a budget the best option is Sonar/GPS or going with DI/GPS.

I'm glad my post had gotten a lot of attention. I merely picked only four lures for a entry level angler to have success on that I believe to cover most of the water column. I chose only four lures because as a beginner there's going to be a lot of guessing and if you limit the options to four you can eliminate a lot of the guess work. There's definitely an incredibly long list of lures that anglers can go out with and easily catch many fish, but I simply just tried to give 4 options that most bass anglers all have and have proven to repeatedly catch fish. Again this was solely based on opinion and you know what they say about opinions. I know there's a lot of experienced anglers on the forum, many of whom have twice the years of experience as I've lived. I'm very passionate about the sport of bass fishing which allows me to teach what I know to others. If this post helps only one person then great. It's awesome to see how much others want to help out the new guys. I haven't been a member of the forum for a terribly long time but I always tell people about it because it's truly a great place to learn and share knowledge

I know a lot of different knots and that's definitely not what i use nor recommend with fluoro
