  1. Pradco took over xcalibur way before they discontinued the xcalibur line of lures. The only thing that’s different with these baits is the name on the packaging
  2. Unless you are mounting to a jack plate the transducer shield itself isn’t completely necessary. I have the stock bracket mounted to the spring back bracket and it’s worked great on my previous unit with HDSI transducer now I’ve ran it for a season with mega and no problems
  3. IMO Johnny likes to put a lot of flashy paint on his rods for appearance. Again just my opinion but i think dobyns is putting out the best $100-110 rod on the market
  4. I’d go with the 2500. It will balance out a bass rod much better than the 1000. IMO the 1000 would be an amazing crappie reel but the 2500 will be a better reel for the bass. I’m trying to talk myself out of buying one but I’m not sure how long i can hold off.
  5. Only reason for the G is due to corrosion with the mgl spoil and salt water. My understanding is the spool is the only difference
  6. going on at Rogers this weekend. Sales start tomorrow Pm me and I’ll send you the ad if you haven’t seen it. Won’t let me post the link for some reason
  7. At least most of them are bank beaters and don’t know how to fish offshore
  8. shhhhh theres no fish out there at the Mill
  9. Definitely pros and cons to each brand of fish finder on the market. Garmin makes some awesome units for the price tag but like previously mentioned nothing compares to mega SI. Like most things you get what you pay for. Mega is the latest technology on the market in SI and DI so you’d have to assume it will be here for a while. I upgraded units last year and opted for the Helix 9 mega SI at the console and I have no regrets. If it fits your budget I’d say go for the helix 9. You won’t be disappointed and I don’t think an inch of screen is worth $400 especially because both units are the exact same size just an inch difference in screen size. I need to do some tweaking with my settings still but here’s a screenshot
  10. All these people that love war eagle are going to be sad since pradco bought them out. More than likely will be turned into booyah just like xcalibur did. Misfit Fishing Co.
  11. Ended up with the 7’10 heavy mojo bass rod. The 7’11 was really a flippin/pitching rod and I didn’t really like how far up the rod the first guide is.
  12. I work there and I can tell you that someone made a mistake. But good deal for you. They are supposed to be 50% off regular price so you got a deal because one of the new girls at the counter didn’t pay attention.
  13. So I’ve decided that this is going to be the year I get out and really figure out the alabama rig. Ive thrown it on a 7’6 flippin stick in the past but I would prefer to have a dedicated setup that I could also use on some glide baits in the spring and summer. I’ve narrowed my options down to 2 rods One is a 7’10 heavy fast Action rated 1-4oz. The other is a 7’11 heave modfast action rated 1/2-2oz. I like the feel of the 7’11 the best because it doesn’t feel like a freaking broom but I’m worried because of that it might not have the power. I’m not looking for any specific rod recommendations and I specifically didn’t include which rods I’m looking at because I don’t want to start a battle of what company makes the best rod for an a rig. I’m simply asking which rod would be better suited for an a-rig and why you’d prefer it over the other.
  14. No downside to running the ultrex while having Lawrence units. The only benefit to running birds would be if you get a motor with link. Even then I personally don’t see a huge advantage with link other than being able to follow a contour line on your map. The US2 transducer will work fine with lowrance. My fishing partner has an ultrex and runs gen 3 HDS 9’s and it’s an awesome combination. I run Humminbird’s on my rig but still wouldn’t pay the extra cash for the link feature
  15. The cables run to an actuator which then steers the motor. That’s why it requires much less effort to steer and gives it the feeling of power steering.
  16. Good luck getting ahold of him. Last I heard we wasn’t taking any new customers and was trying to sell the business
  17. I own an MGXTREME2 and can honestly say I don’t think it’s worth the money. You can pic one up on the bay for much less that the msrp but if you’re paying full retail I don’t think it performs up to the price point. The steez or metanium mgl are far nicer reels similar price points. I’m not a fanboy of any reel company and I own reels from all companies mentioned.
  18. Just from the techniques you listed I would say avoid a medium light casting rod. There’s a lot of variables there but none of those really are techniques that would require a Baitcasting finesse setup. Without knowing what weight of lures it’s hard to say, but in my opinion you’d be better off with a medium power rod to do the variety of techniques you have listed. I’d stick to a spinning setup for the small live bait. A medium light rod wouldn’t give you much backbone that you’d need to get a solid hook set on weightless senkos (Texas rigged) or lightly weighted Texas rigged plastics. Hook size will play a factor in that as well. If you really want a true finesse Baitcasting setup it would be better suited for applications such as drop shot or wacky rigged senkos on light tackle. It just comes down to the fact that a medium light casting rod is a very technique specific rod and in my opinion doesn’t fit the bill for the majority of what it sounds like you’re looking for
  19. I’m not sure if the price point but another blank from rainshaddow that would be a great all purpose is the etec72mh. I have a rod built on that blank and I absolutely love it.
  20. The striker will not be able to give you any mapping information. You have gps in the sense you can mark waypoints but that’s it. I’m a humminbird guy but unless you’re looking to go with a helix 9 or larger I’d recommend the new garmin echomap plus 73sv Placement on the boat plays a big factor as well. If you’re wanting a unit at the bow mounted to the trolling motor the helix 7 chirp sonar will suffice, but if you want it at the steering column with the transducer at the transom you will definitely want something with side imaging. The 5 inch screen is extremely difficult to read SI on being that it’s about the size of a soda pop can turned sideways.
  21. I feel the same way. I replaced an 898 at the bow of my boat with a helix 9 sonar gps in the case I might want to add 360 in the future I still can
  22. That’s correct. Helix units will require a map card in each unit even when a network is established. Solix and onix units will share maps. I’m not sure about map sharing with navionics map cards but definitely with lakemaster. “I’d like to buy an N, Pat” that will be $100
  23. I have a rod built with that exact blank. I love it. One of the most sensitive rods I’ve ever fished. I use it for lighter flipping purposes and finesse jigs (3/8oz) usually no more than 1/2 oz. I’ve never thrown a spinner bait on the rod but don’t see why it wouldn’t do everything you want it to
  24. If you have a jack plate the best place would be there. Transducer should and saver makes brackets to mount them based on what jack plate you may have
