  1. I don't own a boat, but I hired guide two years ago to fish northern end of Lake Okeechobie. That morning guide was late because motor and electronics stolen off boat in "secure" stogarage area. He showed up in friends boat. Moral of story.....you're good to be cautious.
  2. I keep a Deeper fish finder tied to one when I go to new ponds.....
  3. I've recently made notes on how to fish crawfish as I also want to learn to use them starting in spring. I found the following useful: https://www.bassmaster.com/understanding-bass-forage-crawfish
  4. We all had one that got away and wished we had back. You checked all the boxes on your 67: First year first gen camaro - check 4 speed - check Big block - check RS - check SS - check Must of been a lot of fun to drive......
  5. Good point, I used to be huge into ultralight backpacking. I haven't done lately but a 4 day long weekend I could be about 17lbs without water, and you won't need to carry water:) Ultralight will definitely save room and done right you can easily make fit your needs onto kayak. Since you don't need backpack you can probably save 1/2 lb or more right there. Be careful though, counting ounces becomes an addiction.
  6. Sam, thanks. I may be out if town but if not I will try to get over there.
  7. Sam, I'll be in touch, what time does the Club meet at Debbie's? Thank you. Chuck
  8. Wdy, good to know someone's having success. I'll PM you to see about maybe hooking up and be great if Sam was up to it. I am on southside by Woodlake, I kayak Swift Creek Res, due to family needs don't really venture too far from area.
  9. Are guys skipping with a baitcaster? I skip spinning a lot but can't seem to get baitcaster down.
  10. Reviving old thread......any updated info on Richmond area or central va bass clubs? Thanks
  11. I take good notes afterwords, but while retrieving I really try to pay attention to how I was presenting the bait, once I caught a fish with all the excitement I would sometimes forget if I was presenting fast, slow, swimming it, popping, how twitching was etc.....really concentrating on what I was doing helps me remember "exactly" what I was doing.
  12. Sweet beaver, Zoom Ultravibe Speed Craw, Havoc 4" Pit Boss Big Texan, Gary Yamamoto 4” Fat IKA - these seem to work for me.
  13. Mid-90's buddy and I used to crappie fish at night. At dawn we'd come back to ramp, we'd keep a few fish but give the rest to folks fishing by ramp, usually several dozen fish at least. People were very happy. One time we came back to ramp and someones bassboat was sitting on top of dock, seems they had too much to drink that night, It was litllerally on the dock: so they had to hit that thing hard.
  14. Wow, great to know, I have been there 4 times for total of 7.75 hours in last 2 weeks. In Shields lake I had a fish short strike lure as I was almost pulling it out if water but otherwise nothing. I've thrown everything at these ponds. In Swan lake I caught two, one on spinner with paddletail trailer and the other on Big EZ swim bait, both were small, about 1.5lbs. Both were caught in area between shore and that little island in lake. I've really been frustrated so thanks. Do you know a good public pond or lake in downtown I can hit that might be better?
  15. Didn't know you could even fish there. Do you fish Swan or Shields lake in Bryd Park at all? Last Friday they stocked Shields Lake with trout. Today I fished Swan lake for 90 minutes and scored a big "0"!. I just started fishing these and haven't figured the LM out yet. Caught couple recently in Swan but very difficult.
  16. You must not know anything about finance/banking/economics if you put down Zerohedge. If you want to trade creditials I am game.....

  18. No experience with either but I doubt you can go wrong. I do have the Megabass Orochi X4 F3-610X4S Aarons Martin Limited spinning rod for finesse work and it is simply amazing, the sensitivity plus backbone for 1/16 – ½ oz baits is great. Casts worms forever. Right now tacklesupplydepot has the XX's on sale for 25% off, (rare) discount applied in shopping cart. They do have the flipping special available, not sure about Warhammer.
  19. I wonder if you can tow a cheap light kayak that can hold gear with a bigger one????
  20. Sam really sums it up. You have great LM and catfish all around you. Smallmouth is really further west up James River. I second Ed Allens big time, good fishing and you can rent little jon or row boat real cheap. I put our trolling motor on it. If you are here for 4.5 months you will be here for prime striper fishing on James by 95 bridge, you can do this by shore. Also you can wade james river just west of 95 bridge for catfish, they easily get 30+ lbs. Definitely go to Dance's, they'll hook you up....excuse the pun:)
  21. They are difficult to find.....I love a slow reel for cranking, I lost a Curato 5:5.1 to bottom of lake with E6x, replaced the reel with a Diawa TDZ 103P, 5:1:1 Magnesium reel, 6.2 oz. Great reel.
  22. I am in VA but hired a guide last week to fish canals around Delray, north of Ft. Lauderdale from 2-6PM. We did well with Megabass 110 SP Jerkbaits and War Eagle Spinners, double willow blade without trailer. Several days earlier he caught several 5-7lb LM in same area on these. The LM bite was very slow but we caught a few, Peacock bass were strong and biggest was 4lbs which I think is good size for Peacock. Other boaters were doing well with topwaters. Jigs were real good prior to my visit but we had no luck this day.
  23. I have two neighborhood ponds, I typically fish an hour each before moving on if no action. Although they are very close, they do fish differently.
  24. I am looking at same Dobyns as you for 2 - 4.25 oz swimbaits. I have a couple custom rods but since I don't fish bigger swimbaits much I think the 795SB will work good at nice price point. To get a full custom you are looking at alot more and how often you use it will dictate if custom is worth it you.
