  1. My favorite fishing rods are the rods my grandfather gave me when I first started fishing(well over 2 decades ago).I still fish with these rods.
  2. Both Booyah and Live Target make good hollow body frogs.
  3. Monofilament line is probably the best choice for a new bass fisherman.
  4. There are spots in the rim canal/Lake Okeechobee where the bass will always bite. These spots can change depending on weather conditions, but someone who knows how to read the water well will always catch bass here when others get stumped.Lots of these spots are well known, some aren't,but they can all be found if you put in your time on the water.
  5. I fish my Rebel Pop-R's on a medium heavy 6'6" fishing rod,but you can use a longer fishing rod if you want.
  6. Depends where you fish...I always catch lots of bass when I fish the rim canal. Definitely a good spot once you learn what the bass want.
  7. You should try fishing the rim canal,it's loaded with bass.Catching 5 bass in a trip isn't hard at all in this canal, and there are some big bass in there(have caught bass over 7 pounds bank fishing the rim canal, and there has been several people that have caught +8 pounders).
  8. Enough days to make it one of the best years I have had bass fishing.
  9. Wow ,that's shocking you only caught 1 bass fishing Lake Okeechobee.Maybe you should try fishing the rim canal.I often fish that canal from the shore and catch a quick 5 bass limit.
  10. Nice catches.Have you caught largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and peacock bass in the same day when fishing in Hawaii?
  11. I have caught several quality sized bass in a school of small bass,so it's definitely possible, especially in a clear lake where you can sight fish for bass.
  12. Yes,the heat can be excessive at times. That's one of the main reasons why I like night fishing down here. Its enjoyable to go diving when it's hot and it's a added bonus when I catch lobster for my family to eat...they love eating lobster.
  13. I work indoors so the heat doesn't get to me, would probably think the same as you if I worked in the outdoors. The construction workers down here have a high level of heat tolerance, they often work long hours in hot/humid weather.
  14. I like to go diving often,it's not enjoyable to do that when it's cold. The exotic fish(peacock bass, bullseye snakehead, etc) down here seem to bite best when it's warm,so I rather deal with the warm weather. Besides that,I enjoy fishing in shorts with a T-shirt.
  15. Congratulations on your new PB.
  16. It was a beautiful day today with temperatures in the low 80's.
  17. Those are some beauties, they look very similar to the ones I catch in South Florida. The biggest ones down here have a purplish color to them, especially when they are over 12" in length(at least the ones I have caught ).
  18. Yes bass eat mayan cichlids so it might be a good idea to try a lure that imitates the colors of these fish.
  19. Nice bass.I just finished a quick night fishing trip with my little cousin, we caught lots of bass and released them all.The people that lived around the lake I was fishing where celebrating tonight for something worth celebrating.
  20. I think some of you guys need to go fishing this weekend with a young family member ,teach him/her what you know about bass fishing, and don't stress over "spots vs patterns ".With that said, I am going to do some night fishing with my little cousin now and have a good time fishing.
  21. Do you have to catch bass to have a good time with your son or are you OK with catching lots of panfish? When I was a child I had a blast catching bluegills with my old man.
  22. ^This^ Nothing replaces time spent on the water.Go fishing, don't worry about the intricacies of bass fishing, and have a good time!
  23. Wow,that's terrible. Sounds like he made you pay for his own fishing trip and let you tag along for $500. A "fishing guide" is supposed to be someone who teaches his client how to fish and puts the client on fish.A guide fishing in front of the boat is also a lack of respect to the client, you didn't pay $500 to be a backseat angler that's for sure. Good thing you learned to research your fishing guides in advance, hopefully you learned to avoid the bad ones.
