  1. Would be nice to catch peacock bass, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass all in the same day then go diving in the same day.
  2. Welcome to the double digit bass club!
  3. Gizzard Shad.I have caught many gizzard shad over a pound on small swimbaits. They make good cutbait for catfish.
  4. Wow that's shocking. One would think the fishing would be better in Toho since so many +8 pounders come out of there. Maybe the fishing is tuff because there is a large amount of fishing pressure+less than favorable fishing conditions?Makes me appreciate my small waters more since they are always producing me good sized fish, even though it's less common to get a +8 pounder from these places compared to Central Florida lakes. How big was the bowfin? They might not be as popular as a bass, but they are fun to catch.I personally would prefer having a day catching a bunch of big bowfin compared to a day of catching a bunch of runty bass.
  5. Nice blue catfish.Wish we had those in South Florida since they can weigh over 100 pounds. I don't think it's a true albino since it has dark eyes and albinos have red eyes. The albino channel catfish that I caught was completely white with red eyes. Have not caught the piebald coloration yet, that's a unique coloration that I have only seen in pictures.
  6. Did you go fishing last week? The bass fishing has been very good lately.Try the spots I mentioned, you should be able to have a good time catching both largemouth bass and peacock bass.
  7. I have caught plenty of big bass in the winter, so it's definitely a good time to go bass fishing in Florida.
  8. This post made me smile. I have been fishing big game fish(both freshwater and saltwater) for years and caught some "River Monsters" myself. Both of the shows mentioned earlier are in my top 5 shows to watch online and I rather watch these shows than watch most fishing shows.
  9. For me most of the fun in fishing is the adventure to catch a big exotic fish. I love to research my target species for months,go fishing for it,and finally catch it.It is much more rewarding to catch a fish this way than just going through the motions like most fishermen do. Well said. Bass fishing will never be the same once you start catching some of these river monsters, that's for sure!
  10. Spinnerbaits are always in my bass fishing tackle box and are one of the best lures to use in murky water in South Florida.
  11. Have caught plenty of freshwater snook and tarpon, but not in the C-14 canal since I am specifically targeting bullseye snakehead.Have caught plenty of big snakehead in that area.
  12. River Monsters is by far one of my favorite fishing shows since I enjoy fishing for large exotic fish. The detective aspect of River Monsters is one of my favorite parts of the show.
  13. There was a albino catfish that I caught at least 2 times in one of the lakes I fish in. Me and my friend named this albino channel catfish ''Meow Mix'' and it was one of our ''pets'' in that particular lake.
  14. Well said.I put 2 closed fist in the mouth of my biggest bass. You can usually stick 1 closed fist in the mouth of a 4-5 pound or better bass. Nice catches It's extremely simple to measure the length and girth of a bass with a tape measure. You can even measure the length and girth with a piece of fishing line.
  15. Catching the same fish seems to be more common in small bodies of water. There was a bass that I caught at least 4 times and I have caught several fish more than once.
  16. Congratulations on your new PB!
  17. Both the canal and park I mentioned offer good bass fishing, with a decent shot at a 5 pound or bigger bass. You just have to put in your time wisely for best results.
  18. Find a rod/reel combo that you are comfortable with and fishing with spinnerbaits will be much easier .
  19. There's plenty of parking nearby you just have to find it and walk a short distance to the canal. You are allowed to fish this canal as long as you have your Florida freshwater fishing license since it's a public canal. The peacocks hit well on Rapala jerkbaits and live shiners is the best way to get them. Don't be surprised if you hook into a snook or tarpon since they are in this canal system.
  20. soflabasser replied to j bab's topic in Fishing Reports
Good report. Its always fun to catch 2 bass at the same time on a single lure.
  21. Snook will hit many of the same lures a bass would hit. Try using topwaters, jerkbaits, jigs, etc.Bass fishing will never be the same once you have a +40" snook blowup on your topwater lure and peel drag faster than even the biggest largemouth bass are capable of.
  22. Try fishing dark colors or loud colors such as chartreuse.A spinnerbait is a good choice in waters like you described.
  23. You can try fishing the canal behind Opa Locka airport on Red Road and NW 142nd Street. Its the part of the canal that is "L" shaped. Last time I went fishing there I caught 16 bass in less than 4 hours, with the biggest one being a skinny but spunky 21.5" largemouth bass. This canal is also a good spot for peacock bass and various species of exotic fish.Amelia Earhart park is close to this canal and offers good bass fishing as well, but the peacock bass fishing is much better in the canal.
  24. I am glad that Rugby was a Olympic Sport in the 2016 games.Rubby is a sport where a person needs a large amount of strength, speed, endurance ,and agility to succeed in.
