With which reel would you treat yourself?
Thinking of getting a Shimano Stella or Penn Torque spinning reel.

Lure Weight Question
A member posted a video yesterday of him flipping a +10 pound bass into the boat.He used a expensive rod which shows that flipping big fish happens all the time if you are have the appropriate gear to flip fish.

Too Much Tackle
Been using fishing logs for decades and they are great for documenting which lures are most successful in certain locations. Makes it much easier to know which lures to buy in large amounts and which ones to not get much of.

New Spots in Miami, Florida
Honestly the bass fishing is spectacular in South Florida. Almost every canal, pond, lake is loaded with bass,so it's not hard to find good places to fish. With that said, what county are you most interested in fishing?Miami Dade?Broward?

Fishing to become an Olympic sport?
At least they are walking to each hole instead of driving to each one. They are still getting some exercise with all that walking, much more exercise than sitting on a chair on a boat for a couple hours. I don't play golf often but I know it's far more difficult to hit a golf ball accurately than make a cast with a fishing rod. They even have to get in a very low squat position which is something not everyone can do. Got to have some decent endurance/ flexibility to do well in Curling.

Fishing to become an Olympic sport?
8hrs,that's it? Man I do that all the time both on a boat and on land in +90 degree heat and it still doesn't compare to what Olympic athletes can do. 2 foot waves is nothing, I have fished in +10 foot seas, still doesn't compare to what Olympic athletes do. Olympic Sports should be extremely physically challenging, not easy like most forms of fishing.

Fishing to become an Olympic sport?
^^This^^ Any fisherman can get "lucky" and win a tournament while another skilled fisherman loses. It happens all the time. The Country hosting the event will have a HUGE advantage over the other competitors from other countries.

Fishing to become an Olympic sport?
Got a couple double digit bass along with several species of BIG saltwater gamefish, and I don't see those catches compare to what a gymnast does or a sprinter can do.Sorry but some sports are much more challenging than others...anyone can fish, regardless of athletic ability Meh Can he run a full marathon? Run the 100 meter dash at a decent speed? Swim for a couple hours or at least swim fast? I am very fond of bass fishing, but bass fishing does not compare to Track and Field, Swimming, Weightlifting, and other extremely physically demanding sports.

Fishing to become an Olympic sport?
I much rather see a fishing competition where anglers complete for total weight of several species of fish caught from land than see a competition where anglers are on a boat with electronics. I have,I don't plan on practicing that sport, but it does require more athletic ability than most forms of fishing. I guess fishing has a chance at being a Olympic sport if golf made it into the Olympic games...do they use golf carts instead of walking the course?

Nosy ramp guys
Tournament fishermen have been known to steal lures off rods from fishermen that do well in competitions,so it's best to keep your fishing tackle close to you to avoid this problem.

Topwater vs. Frog Rods
Everyone has their own style of fishing so you are going to get many different answers. With that said I prefer a Medium Action rod for small/medium sized topwater lures and a Heavy Action rod for big topwaters/ frog fishing.

Fishing to become an Olympic sport?
I enjoy fishing, but fishing should never be a Olympic Sport.Olympic sports are physically demanding sports that you have to be a athlete to succeed in(you have to be in great shape for these sports, unlike fishing).I much rather see Rock Climbing in the next Olympic games than fishing.

Too Much Tackle
I also have duplicates of my most effective lures in my lure collection...always a good idea to have more than you need than have less.

Too Much Tackle
I put the lures I don't use often in my lure collection.

Nosy ramp guys

Do bass ever really "turn off" during winter down south?
It is a common misconception to think that Florida only has shallow lakes.Down here we have many bodies of water that are 40-60 feet deep, with some lakes much deeper(both natural and man made lakes). The temperatures in these lakes is relatively stable and is one of the main reasons why many exotic species of fish thrive.Water temperatures rarely drop below 60 degrees, even on days where the air temperature is below 40 degrees.

Do bass ever really "turn off" during winter down south?
Have caught plenty of bass in sub 45 degree weather(right after a big cold front),which is very cold for South Florida... ^This^ Find out what the bass want and you will be catching them long after most people quit fishing because it's "too cold" in the South for bass to bite.

Lure Weight Question
Depends on what type of rod you use. I flip +5 pound bass and +5 pound fish of various species all the time with my fishing rods. Some of these rods are +20 years old and still function well despite decades of abuse. ^ This is the best answer given.
