  1. If your not catching any fish I would switch lakes. I catch just as many fish with my shimano reels as l do with lews/abu/pflueger. How come you want to switch brands?
  2. try this, 7ft st croix avid mf. if it has to be a cranking specific then get a sticker that says crankbait and put it on it. technique specific rods dont do much for me though.
  3. I had a local tackle shop extend the handle on a rod I had. They left the reel seat and glued in a piece of rod blank then installed cork. cost me about $30.
  4. chronarch 50e and a lews tp is a draw. I fish both and would hate to part with either one. I think people like say how lews and abu are made in the same korean plant like that makes them worse. I bought a curado I and returned it the very next day. If you take care of your equipment it last. Sometimes I fish with a shimano fanboy and when I do I use my abu's. Its fun catching more fish with my inferior equipment while he can stand there holding his stick loving shimano.
  5. clean the bearings and lighten the brakes.
  6. OK, braid or mono line for crankbaits?
  7. do you buy vmc over gamakatsu?
  8. Do you prefer the red or natural "bronze" color?
  9. does anyone remove the split rings on their crankbaits and tie directly to lure? Does it matter?
  10. who makes the best hooks
  11. Get the Avid. I use the rage model, I think its 6'10". Its pretty nice but I only buy st croix now. Good luck.
  12. 7' legend elite mhf. Followed closely by 6"10" *** mf. I really like that 6'10" fo some reason. 6'6" avid mf does EVERYTHING well, mine is used exclusively for lipless cranks.
  13. I bought a lews tournament a couple years ago for$150. One of the best reels I have. I like it as much as the tournament pro but its about an ounce heavier. You should be able to find one on clearance cause I dont think they make them anymore.
  14. Yeah, the *** is pretty sweet. the 7'3" rods have a longer handle and I can "cradle it the best" but I have longer arms so thats why I like it. The 6'10' *** is my favorite rod all around. Something about it, I dont know, but I'm always fishing it. The reel seat can become uncomfortable though and I dont notice it when you just grab it but after fishing it a while it becomes uncomfortable for me. St. Croix Avid is awesome and I can fish that rod all day long. The legend elite is one of the best rods around, skip the legend tournament bass. If I was in the market for another rod it would be the discontinued model of the legend elite on discount.
  15. Also if it worries you, cleaning a $300 reel is the same as cleaning a $75 real. Its not like its some exotic animal.
  16. I have a carbonlite and think it performs great. Fit and finish isnt as nice as some of my other reels, but it didn't cost as much either. I bought one just to see what it was all about and the only thing I would change is the handle knobs. It casts great and for me palms great. It makes me wonder sometimes why I spent so much money on other reels.
