  1. If you really want to make it simple they feed up before reproducing, recover/guard the hatch, and then feed up for winter. Basic survival, eat and reproduce. If we are talking about predicability on my local water it would be summer. We have fish that will stay shallow until the water freezes in the winter. During the summer the lakes really shrink and they will be on/around anything that creates a canopy or casts a shadow. It's not easy fishing, but it's easy to eliminate a lot of water.
  2. I just give a quick snap or jerk too, which often triggers a strike. A more erratic retrieve is often more effective than a straight, consistent retrieve anyways (but not always). All of that. Often when you rip it free, the bite that follows is a no-doubter.
  3. We catch a few every year bass fishing. Black and blue bladed jig when they're shallow and a 5xd when they get into 12-15ft (which is relatively deep for the lakes were on).
  4. The soft jerkbait (fluke) rigged weedless is a good alternative in this scenario.
  5. The R2S S Waver 168 is worth a look. For softer style baits that won't break the bank, Savage Gear has a good selection.
  6. Yes. Mono backing and a braided main line will work well. Keep in mind that braid can fray and become compromised if dragging over rocks or contacting sharp edges, so you may want to consider adding a leader that is more abrasion resistant (if you don't already).
  7. 284 - Rootbeer w/ Red and Gold
  8. Replaced a broken rod and added a few items I was low on... 7'3" Falcon BuCoo MH/MF "Deep Runner" Curado 200K Gambler Burner Craws (GP/BB & Killer G) Spro Poppin Frogs 60 size (Killer Gill) Super Flukes (Baby Bass) Keepin' it simple.
  9. Your best bet is to contact Shimano (or the retailer). I had a Curado reel replaced, but I'm not familiar with their rod warranty. It was a good experience none the less. Although manufacturer defects exist, the blank was most likely damaged and you didn't know it. Maybe a weight hitting the blank, stepped on, etc. It stinks, but it happens. I highly doubt it was a hook set issue with that model. Keep swinging!! Hopefully you cashed a big enough check to buy a replacement if needed ?.
  10. Welcome! You will find a lot of great information on here ??
  11. Welcome... Sounds like a combo that will cover a lot of bases!
  12. Welcome, David!
  13. Metanium. Why? I am not likely to spend $500 on a single reel, so it would be a treat. I have absolute confidence in my Shimano reels, and have to imagine a higher end reel would be nothing less than a pleasure to fish with.
  14. Agree. I'll also pitch a creature bait. I like a heavier weight in this scenario for a quicker fall rate. Creates a reaction bite. Most of the time you really have to pick an area apart as their strike zone seems to shrink. Good news is my lakes become significantly smaller when I know what I'm looking for. Usually the bite is on the initial fall or first hop. Pitch, check, shake, retrieve, repeat.
  15. If you think of the swinging jig as a crankbait, yes it can work. I would suggest a weight that you can swim near the bottom, without dragging. However, this presentation excels with bottom contact and a hard bottom. I loaded up on these a few years ago but rarely throw them (for a lack of hard bottom). However, if you pair it with a plastic that has a lot of action (i.e. Rage Tail) you can pitch to targets similar to a Texas rig, and the free swinging head may get you and extra bite or two swimming it back.
  16. Locally we tend to stay pretty shallow, or the edges of grass lines that are close to a depth change. Lower light conditions I'll fish a buzzbait or frog but most of the day were dropping creature baits through the vegetation. Don't usually get a ton of bites but usually produces a few good ones.
  17. Same. They shoot pellets out of feeders and the trout swarm. Guys make lures that mimic the food and stand there and wait until the feeder goes off. Kind of neat to see, but I don't see the "sport" in it.
  18. Pretty sure nobody is fact checking or policing weights on FishBrain. My buddy ended up in court over that app... But I'm not going to open that can of worms.
  19. All, Thanks for the feedback and dialogue. As soon as I saw TW had a couple 7:1 Curado K's in stock I pulled the trigger. But, I digress. This post was about a rod. I chose the BuCoo SR 7'3 MH/MF Deep Runner model. Gave some serious thought toward the 7'2 LowRider Swim Jig (I really like my other LowRiders) but by the time they come back in stock the reels will be long gone. Thanks, again! RT
  20. I talked to a Falcon staff member today. Said it fishes just as you would expect a MH with a 1/4-3/4oz rating. The MF action would likely make casting a 1/8oz possible, but it's unlikely I would ever intend to try. He assured me that going over 3/8oz wouldn't over power that model. Either way, I'm leaning heavily toward the 7'3 MH/MF 3/8-3/4.... Unless the 7'2 Lowrider comes back in stock ?
  21. I have a few of the PQ2 reels, one PQ2 rod and a Carbonite 2.0 reel. All are user friendly and work. I use the PQ2 rod more than I ever expected to. The Carbonite reel was my first baitcaster and the only issues I've ever had were user error. I tried to do a thorough clean and tore it all apart. Should have just done a quick clean and lube. Also have a rod they discontinued called the Titanium 8. It is one of my favorite rods, and I believe it was replaced by the Carbonite 2.0 rod of that means anything. My personal opinion on BPS stuff is that I refuse to pay retail, but I'll take advantage of a good sale.
  22. If I'm ever up your way, your phone will be ringing. Lol
  23. Agreed. My experience with their staff has been positive. Everyone I've talked to always seems like they have knowledge and experience with the product. That's a big selling point for me. Yes. I look at those numbers as more of a guideline, but that's a similar rating to my ML spinning rod ?
  24. Hey all, Broke a rod today. Going to replace it with a Falcon BuCoo. Here are the models/specs: Trap Caster 7' MH/MF 1/4-3/4oz Swim Jig 7'2 MH/MF 1/8-3/8oz Deep Runner 7'3 MH/MF 3/8-3/4oz I have BuCoo and Lowrider rods so I have a good idea of how Falcon rates a rod, but the 7'2 MH Swim Jig model strikes me as not like the others. Can anyone help to clear this up? I have a Dobyns 703c so I don't think the Trap Caster makes sense, and I'm leaning toward the 7'3 as it seems most similar to the rod I'm replacing. Thought I'd check in with y'all first! This is going to be a utility rod, not necessarily lure specific. It'll see most of it's use when I'm on foot and only carry a few sticks. Thanks!
