  1. Oregon wants bass gone out of pretty much everywhere.
  2. Most rods are pretty close to their rating. The only real exception I have found is the 894 NRX. It is rated for 3/4oz and it handles double of that with ease.
  3. Don't buy a $130 rod. Go buy a Lightning Rod from Wal-Mart and pocket the $100. Then fish a lot and just become a better jig fisherman while stashing away another $250. Then buy a used NRX, GLX, UMBX, Zillion, Orochi, Power Tackle, or whatever tickles your fancy. If you have some left over sweet. Bass fishing is a marathon, buy something awesome once and be done with it.
  4. I have them in 130 and 190. The 130's are a productive bait. The 190's are a legit big bait. It's a whole different monster than the smaller versions. I haven't caught anything on them yet and I havent fished them much yet.
  5. I use 7/0 Trokars with my 11" ribbon tails, 12" Power Worms, and 12" lizards. It's a huge hook and I want that cutting point. For everything else it's a Gammy because they don't tear up the plastic and still get the job done.
  6. I just moved here and know NOTHING about the area. Any info would be appreciated. I have a boat and all the bells and whistles. I will take pretty much anyone out that knows the area or will cover the expenses of anyone that has a boat. I'm not looking to spot jack or steal any secrets, but other than watching episodes FLW episodes and Elite series stuff there isn't a lot of great info out there.
  7. Use them anywhere you would use a deep crankbait and fish them the exact same way. Grind them into the bottom and whenever you hit anything solid, pause. The bite is usually much more noticeable than a regular football jig.
  8. You owe it to yourself to get a good glass rod. I love my Phenix.
  9. My dad and grandpa trolled Shad Raps during my whole childhood and caught a ton of bass. They would put me to shame in the summer and winter. Nothing special, just a shad pattern SR7, mostly in the middle of creek channels. I absolutely know it works, but I don't do it for no real logical reason.
  10. Pretty much everything you need has been said. I fish a floating jerk bait on a 1oz steel sinker sometimes. It fishes the same but keeps it down on bottom.
  11. The only time I carry is from the ramp to my boat and back. There are some shady characters at boat ramps.
  12. I won't be able to make the whole trip and probably won't be in a cabin but I will be there with my boat for the Weekend portion of this. Anyone that wants to fish with me is welcome. I can fish three comfortably.
  13. Your third picture from the bottom, I caught my best fish of the day on that same day on that same point.
  14. I have about 50-60lbs worth of plastics.
  15. Yep. Speed Shads for me. Kicker Fish makes some or they did that were good too.
  16. In lakes I know I fish all of my spots. Depending on the size of the lake I will hit each spot up to twenty times in a day. My spots are seasonal though so they change. If it's a new lake I will try to cover every inch of it to get my spots.
  17. We caught about a hundred of these little guys yesterday. Shasta is a fun place.
  18. I use the horse head style. I got used to the little versions of those for crappie and just stuck with what I know. I fish them pretty quickly and use them in more of a yo-yo type retrieve. It would be between the pace of a blade bait and hair jig. Spy baits are more productive for me and stay down much easier in the cast & slow retrieve department. When the fish are biting them my goodness do they bite them.
  19. It will be a long time before Dottie gets toppled.
  20. Bulk stuff in Ziploc freezer bags stored in a duffel bag. My ready to go stuff is in Plano 3700 boxes.
  21. I really like the Ugly Otter on a 1/8oz weight. The little kick that thing has on a slow fall is pretty productive. The RI Double Wides are my overall favorite. I'm a junkie for large profile baits.
  22. 1. Buy high end gear used. It's out there. Be patient and save yourself a fortune. 2. Figure out a Senko alternative. At $1 a pop there are so many cheap and easy alternatives that only require minor tweaking. 3. Have a storage system that preserves your bait. I have plastics that are 30 years old that are still in perfect shape. 4. Stick to four colors. There are like 82 colors of straight tail Roboworms. I think there are more Senko colors than that. If you're throwing a lipless 99.9% of the time craw, lava, and lava craw are going to catch the same fish. 5. Regularly Scheduled Maintenance. If you have a boat replace your lower end oil, air filter, and fuel filter every year. Change your impeller every 100 hours or two years, etc. A couple hundred bucks a year to keep everything running will be much easier to deal with than replacing a power head or lower unit way before you were planning.
  23. Casting: Phenix UMBX 7'7" M/L. Lew's Team Lite Speed Spool. Spinning: Phenix UMBX 7'6" M/L. Pfluger Patriarch 3000.
