night fishing, any suggestions, never tried it.
the only downside to night fishing is that its a hastle if you dont have a good quality flashlight with you. if you get a tangle or get caught in the weeds, the last thing you want is to not be able to see what your doing, and end up having to cut the line and loose a lure. so my advice is bring the brightest light possible.

smallmouth at night?
my favourite time to fish for smallies is at sundown, when its not quite day but its not quite night. It's around this time, i find, that the baitfish come closer to shore, and the smallmouth come =in to feed on shad for the night, then move back to deeper water at dawn (my theory is they dont like the heat). in my experience, the best lure to use is a topwater during the few minutes that the sun comes down and the smallies are on their way in...its just really worked for me!

can the "wrong" lure spook bass?
very true its like the articles on the 'tips and tactics' section say...not casting a lure into the water properly is as good as tossing a rock into the water...its a for sure spooking. you want to perfect the side arm cast or underhand cast to get the softest presentation possible. once in the water, i dont think the action would spook a fish...unless its a buzzbait in the early morning when the waters so calm its like a mirror... start quite, gradually get louder until the fish are fed up and attack.

5in soft plastics too big for around a 12in bass?
hi there, mike for plastic worms, my favourite size is 6 inches since average bass (lets say 3-4 pounds) will take it, large lunkers consider it, and small bass can be more aggressive and greedy. im only 16 but from the amount of fishin i do i'd say 5-7 inches is your best bet.
