manny
i live in ottawa, and the ottawa river and the rideau river are both walking distance for me. both hold bass, walleye, pike, muskie, crappie, lake trout, catfish and carp, the trick is knowing where to fish. if you have a boat, which i don't, you can go to big rideau lake, they have tournaments there if you're interested, or you can go for a day, you'll catch fish. the ottawa is a strange body of water. people fish there, people paddle on it, there's white water rafting all sorts of things, once again, the trick is finding a spot. i myself found a spot during a white water canoeing trip and caught 11 fish within an hour and a half including bass, walleye and catfish with just a worm and a bobber (my bait of choice for moving water) if you're harcore fishermen, i suggest you make a trip for a day to fish a tournament on big rideau lake, and if you just wanna have fun, i suggest you plan a week-long trip and fish the ottawa and the rideau. Michael Vandenberg
Canadian here... I live in Osgoode (30 minutes south of Ottawa). The East end of the Ottawa River (there is a dam in the city of Ottawa) has very good bass fishing. The numbers of bass is OK but what makes it good is the size of the bass. On any given day you have the chance of multiple 5 lbers (remember we are in Canada here...11+ lbs in our record LB). The problem with the Ottawa River is that it is either hot or very cold. Meaning that it can be long time between bites but when the fish turn on, hold on. The Ottawa River is of course a river but the water is stained. Most bass are caught in the back bays or on the shoreline of the main channel. I personally haven't figure out where bass hold in the main channel but they are there (somewhere). The rideau river is a canel system. There is limited current and the water is getting clearer every year thanks to the zebra mussel. The weed growth in the Rideau is very health. If you want slop fishing, this is a very good place to start. The numbers of bass is very good in the Rideau but getting a 4+ lber can be challenging. If you need more info let me know. Cheers, Mike Vandenberg

I think I spelled it right. In mattawa I have lots of smally water, that produces 4-5 pounders. The east end has given me mostly walleye, and one mother of a sturgeon... 97 and 3/4! Anyways I'm new to the site. Looks good Glen. P.s. I live on the shores of lake Nipissing, exellent source of All species( exept trout). BMD-454
I am a proud Canadian as well, and I have fished the Ottawa river many times. My grandparents live on it near Dunrobin and I have caught many Bass out of it, a lot of hi 3 to low 4lb but nothing enormous. Caught a lot of Muskie too and there are some BIIIIIG ones in there. I've fished the Big Rideau a few times and had good luck. My dad pulled a 6lb, 13oz largie from under a dock about 5 years back. It's the biggest bass he's ever caught. Definately one of my favourite lakes to fish
