Any opinion of Tica spinning reels.
I have used a few and wasn't impressed with them. All that were for spinning will fit the occasional angler. However the taurus is good for tuna and the scepter for surfcasting. Their light spinning rod are value for money!

Are there reels designed for braid?
If you have a look at the new stella reels. They have cancelled the line/dia rating and the new braid rating has taken over!

Whats the best spinning reel for my needs
Shimano stella 20000FA, Daiwa saltiga 6500 and the Van staal if you can spend about $600. These reels have landed big marlins and huge tunas, it will pull the aligators like nothing! You will need a popping rod rated to 250g! A cheaper reel up to the standard is the okuma vs 80 or the penn 750ss!

What would you use a 6' Med Rod for?
If you are talking of the SCLA, mine cost about $17. Matched with my stella has landed bonito, GT, snappers, mullet, barracudas, skipjack tuna... Etc. And 2 potential IGFA World record! It will land bass no problem and has used mine with 2.5kg drag under the tip. The reel seat is balanced and you can throw 13g a fair distance, I've powercasted 18g jigs over 80m single handed on this rod. A good rod at a cheap price. However, the blank get softish with use.

Spinning reel for heavy tackle
Nothing beats a stella 3000FD for heavy work as a lightweight rated reel. There is also the 3500HD custom certate or the new certate hyper custom or even the branzino!

What is "High Sticking"
It is a term used when you are holding the rod in the high position with a wide grip. This applies when playing a fish under your tip, especially in deep water. This overlod your tip and put a lot of pressure on the fish and this is the point of nearly max drag. This term is used in sea jigging.

Shimano's new spinning reel line up opinions anyone?
Owning both a Stella FB and a Stella FD, I have to say that the re-designed FD is smoother than the FB. Not only for the Stella but the new FD ELF a japanese version is as smooth as the Stella FD. Eventhough the ELF is one sixth of the price of the Stella. Shimano is excelling itself with the FD Technology! Thumbs up Shimano! Even the certate custom R doesn't come near as the ELF in smoothness!

Shimano Stella FD
:-[i bought one a few weeks ago, haven't got the chance to get a good fish on the reel! Going bassing next week! I've the 2500FB too and the FD is a re-design version Was curious if any members tried it yet!

Shimano Stella 3000 Size
Thanks.... These are the line caps given by shimano, are they actually acurate? When they quote 12lb 150m, what diameter is the 12lb?
-
Shimano Stella 3000 Size
Actually this is the issue.... Line capacity! :-[i've check the specs and indeed the 2500 and the 3000 have Identical weight and drag pressure! I would say they are the same size too but on the 3000 you get a T handle. Robert: How much line does your 3000 reel take?

Shimano Stella 3000 Size
Hi guys, First of all, I would like to thank all the valuable input about the Shimano stella 2500 FB. I got my reel and I'm so happy with it that I've decided to buy another reel, this time I'm going for a New Stella limited edition. I need help again. I think roadwarrior gave a the actual line capacity on the 2500 which he was using. I need the same kind of help again. Do any of you use a Stella 3000 size? I need the line cap and the diameter of line this reel can take. I know I can check it on the website but I was surprised a few times by manufacturers values! Any help would be muchly appreciated. JT.

Shimano Sustain 2000
The sustain/twinpower has more drag than ashimano stella 2500 Fb. The sustain uses a set of 3 drag washers in the spool whereas the stella 2500 use only 1 drag washer. The sustain is a brilliant reel, it has a direct train mechanism and a joy to use!

Types of knots for braided line??
Palomar will indeed SLIP with some kind of braid especially if the line is new! If you succeed not making it slipping then it is a strong knot. There are many complicated knots which are very reliable for Braid but the easiest to use is the 6 turn grinner knot. Or I use a 6 turn normal blood knot but instead you do 4 turn and tuck it, you do 5 turns up the line and 8 turns on the line again in the downward direction and tuck it!

Raul....
Redsyn: Nice one! If you were to turn an Ultegra blinfolded and a Stella as well, you will nearly see the difference! :-/

Okuma reels
I will stay well clear from the VS spinning version. It has many problems that I have spotted when using the reels and others have reported problems too! Value for moneyy for the occasional angler. If you are thingking of buying a good fishing reel, go for a shimano or a Daiwa!

Raul....
Do you guys have the Ultegra? Some models are SW in japan, which means saltwater Japanese reel have similar drag setting and sometimes more drag. it is the confusion sometimes when they quote their drags as many website have typos about the drag setting. The japanese models are more expensive as there are more quality control for locally sold reels there. The HG is high gear, i.e it has a high gear ratio where as the PG is power gear and the gear ratio is less. As for the stella the US version and the Japanese version have different denomination. For an export reel, it is the FB but for a japanese reel it is the SR. They are identical reels but the price tag have about 25 dollars diffeence, where the SR is more expensive. The japanese have a stella SDH as well and other version of the stella. The thing to remember is that the Japanese version can be a bit more expensive but it offers you with more quality control and in some models customisation. A good example is the Stella 10000SW PG. this is exactly the same reel as a stella 10000FA but the SW PG has got a free spare spool of 16K size to fit the 10K reel and a spare power handle! The thing to remember when buying is that the size of a 3000 Jap is similar to a 3000 US, UNLESS it has a different spool! Be very careful as Raul pointed out, their line rating are for PE mono and braid! For the braid PE1 is equivalent to 10lb braid, you have PE 0.5 too and the line cap is not the equivalent Mono size, it is the equivalent PE size! I got use to Japanese models that is why before buying a stella I asked many question on this forum. The line caps can be a nightmare. It is a good idea to ask well before buying.

New Stella coming out in '07
Valascus: I know how you feel... I just bought a 2006 version last week! Cash waiting in hand for buying a 2007 version. It is out in Japan in the first week of February and they should receive it a bit later in Singapore as well as they have already received the price for them. It's about 25 buck more than the standard SR. No hard feelings as I was thinking of buying either a twinpower /sustain or a certate for a backup reel. It would be a shimano stella 07 no doubt!!!

That cowboy if I'm not wrong is a consultant for shimano! Proably a very knowlegable angler! I could see Norio Tanabe as well in the clip and the other guy landing a Suzuki is a technical consultant for Duel Japan. Norio Tanabe is a top angler and has design his own rods as well called transrealize!

New Stella coming out in '07
Hi, A little preview on the new Shimano Stella 07! Some interesting new features? It looks like the S guard is off the new stella. Video is not too clear to confirm. I can see a new feature under the spool and a higher spool+ an improved lip spool to reduce friction! Cash in hand waiting for this little gem to get out! Im Drooolllllliiinnnngggg

Power Pro
Power pro is like used fireline! Limp and liable to wind knots! I really hate this stuff and it is not a durable line. I do a lot of salt water fishing, the line get wrecked easily if you don't washed it carefully. About abrasion resistance... Well I can say it is not great. The line look like a fireline on my reel after landing several GT's! I prefer PE japanese braid!

spin casting vrs spinning gear
My zebco 202 retired a couple of years ago. I remember I fought a couple of sea fish with it, small trevallies, barracudas and threadfin salmon. They were up to the job, unfortunately it siffered from corrosion on the bell housing and I had to let it go!

New Stella coming out in '07
I've just seen the new catalogue. It seems that there will be no new reel until the end of the year. I heard the big game reel Stella are under testing. Can't wait to get my hand on one of the 07' stellas.
