  1. How about we drive down to Florida and meet up with you? It's frickin' cold up here. ;D
  2. Why limit yourself to 5-6lb fish? You live in VA and there have been plenty of DD fish caught in that state to make that your target weight. Aim for the biggest fish that your waters are capable of producing. I am in PA and shoot for bigger fish than that. You have a much better opportunity to catch a DD fish in your waters. Throwing big baits will not make your average catch bigger if you do not know where to find big fish. Also, you would be surprised how big of a bait a one pound fish will eat or try to kill.
  3. I was hoping someone would find the humor in that statement. LOL
  4. Hey, the cooked pieces were delicious. What can I say? ;D
  5. I'm still waiting for you to answer your PM. ;D I don't want any of your jet ski killers anyway.
  6. I bet everyone saw this one coming : You mean kinda like you recommending a rod/reel combo that you thought up between "naughty" dreams? : As for the rod, M/XF spinning rod. Nope, not thought up, just pure heaven. LOL, believe it or not Steezy my comment was not directed at you. I know you have used those combos whereas the young'un is just dreaming them up.
  7. LOL, good times.
  8. Your honestly wrong. Steelers are 1 and done this year in playoffs. There 2 defensive players from being a 500 or sub 500 team. Chargers have the best shot, if Rivers and company decide to play all 4 quarters. Only 2 NFC teams i can see beating them is the Bears(because im a Bears fan) and the falcons. Falcons are going to be tuff. Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son... ;D
  9. For the most part, I don't know which lures are worth a lot of money and should be kept in perfect condition. If I spend a lot of money on a lure, it gets fished. I won't fish the lures I got when my grandfather passed. They are worth some nice coin, but I still wouldn't fish them if they were only worth a couple bucks. I guess for me, it would all depend on where they came from.
  10. I use a moderate or mod-fast taper for heavy, heavy cover. I want the hookset and weight of the fish to load up the entire blank, not the tip and then the backbone. I'm setting the hook and hoisting the fish up out of cover in one movement. For anything else, I agree - a light weight, sensitive, mh/xf rod is pretty much what I want for a jig rod. Is your goal to protect the rod tip during on an aggressive hookset, or do you feel you have less control of the fish with a fast action rod? Both, really. The hookset isn't really that aggressive - no more than a frog set, more of a flick. Its the second half, or the "sling shot that fish out of there" that is. And yes, slower action does equal more control of fish -- sometimes. Some of this stems from trout fishing in the winter. Those fish are much larger, and more powerful, and yet the big, slow action rod puts the screws to them. I actually know fly anglers that use fast action rods that complain about it not being sporting with slower rods, LOL. At any rate, that's just my preference for one type of fishing, heavy matted coontail. Often the coontail has zebra mussels growing on it - can you imagine? I want that fish up and outta that crap fast. Eww, Jeebus!! That's like fishing in floating razor wire...
  11. I'm surprised you wouldn't try them on peacocks.
  12. Lighter cover/shallower water - MH/F rod that Alpster built for me. Heavier cover/deeper water - 854 BCR Flippin' - 7'6" XXH Mod Fast Carrot Stix

  14. If I were him, I would be impressed with them too. Considering how much money he won with them last year and having Jerry Rago name an inline bait after him (Rago BV3D), I don't see why he wouldn't wear them as earrings. ;D Favorites of mine (hard baits) include the Mattlures Hardgill, Randall's High Power Herring and 3:16's Freestyle Shad. Another one I started using last year on bed fish was the 5" Tru Tungsten, bluegill color. A little smaller profile for when the Mattlures stuff was too intimidating to a fish. Soft baits would be the 6" and 8" Hudd, Mattlures Ultimate Gill. Going off recommendations, I will be putting time in with the 3:16 Rising Son this year as well. All the baits will be making the trip. We'll talk.
  15. Just starting out? Soft stick bait (Senko, trick stick, Yum Dinger, etc) and a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG or 1/0 Finesse Wacky hook. You'll catch fish everywhere you go. Expand from there.
  16. LOL, oddly enough I can see that happening on Saturday.
  17. I honestly believe the Steelers and the Ravens are the only two teams capable of beating the Patriots in the playoffs. I say this because they are the two teams that have the ability to play in the same climate as Foxboro and both have defenses that, when they play at their best, have the ability to shut down that Pat's offense. The Pats are looking tough right now, no doubt.
  18. That rod went home with me from Bass U. Kent won it in a raffle. And, since it didn't say GLoomis on it, he wanted nothing to do with it, and sold it to me. Made us both happy. I obviously haven't fished it yet, so I can't say much about it. I did a quick comparison to the only rod in my arsenal that is at least somewhat similar; a Dobyns 7'6" H-F rod. Dobyns is heavy power, Duckett is Extra-heavy Both are 7'6" Duckett rod is noticeably lighter in weight. Dobyns rod has a little faster action when flexed. Duckett rod has a LOT more power when flexed. I know how the Dobyns rod fishes. It's great. My opinion on the Duckett will have to wait. One peculiar thing is the lack of line weight and lure weight ratings on the rod. It simply says Extra Heavy, and that's it. No indication of action. No weight ratings at all. TW does not list line/lure weight ratings for this rod, and neither does the Duckett website. What's up with that? This is data most of us use when making rod purchasing decisions. So, we gonna throw some big stuff in Kentucky this year or what? ;D

  23. It's all about three things: 1. What will the program let you get away with. 2. What will the program do to keep you eligible. 3. What you are willing to put into your studies when you realize a living will not be made playing sports.
  24. Your screen name has CA Delta in it. I don't think you need to travel very far for the fish you are seeking.
