  1. What line where you using?
  2. Returned and got a ML Shimano Compre. The lure rating is lower. Casts a decent distance that I can live with. I may get a lower test line too, but I'll see how the 7 lb goes. I meant feet. We use meters a lot in track and I had my mind on that.
  3. Just bought the St. Croix Premier 7 foot ml fast action spinning rod. Have it paired with Pflueger President 6930 with 7lb sunline. Planned to use it for finesse techniques with lighter weight lures, mainly my hair jigs, grubs, drop shot ect.. Took it out today, but the casting distance sucked. Especially on my 1/16oz hair jigs. Even a little higher the casting distance was poor. Maybe 15-20 meters. But I flight my MH fast worm rod to another continent. But it was pretty frustrating when I can only cast 10-15 feet sometimes.
  4. There is this pond I am trying to fish. Like the title says, pretty clear water. The bottom is mucky with lots of weeds and leaves. Also I'm up in MA and I'm not sure how cold the water is, but it's cold enough to go numb after a few minutes, although the air temp is improving. I was told there was a lot of fish. Im thinking of just throwing out a bobber and worm just to see what's in there. Any advice on how to approach this pond would be awesome!
  5. I'll give it another shot once the bite picks up. I did go a few weeks ago with not ideal conditions.
  6. From all the research I've gathered and my own trip this year, it seems the fishing in this river system is pretty bad. There's the occasional carp and catfish you can catch. But I've never really heard of anybody catching too many bass and pike. I boated over to Fairheaven Bay this year and not a single bite in about 3 hours. Anybody have any experience fishing on these rivers?
  7. I wanted it put it on a ML rod with 6lb flouro actually. But maybe I'll just have to use that reel for a whole new setup
  8. I'm not sure how much line I could fit on there and if it would be able to catch on the drag properly. I've never really used too shallow of a spool before so I'm slightly hesitant. Maybe I'm wrong, correct me if I am.
  9. I'm looking for a good double handle spinning reel. I would put it on a ML rod with 6-10 flourocarbon for finesse fishing. There's a few JDM reels, but they all seem to have really shallow spools so it would not work out for my finesse setup. Anybody have any suggestions for a high quality reel? JDM or USDM doesn't matter. Or is there a good way to maybe add a custom handle?
  10. The model I was looking at is the Shimano 15 Sephia SS C3000SDH. http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/products_id/26451/osCsid/e8217c2495fc41bcbd9eb3afe407ef1c/ Says it's a "Squid reel" but I don't see why I couldn't put it on a bass setup. It looks pretty sexy and it caught my eye. Anybody know anything about this reel?
  11. Shoot. I guess I just misread the rod in the store. You are correct, it is the rod you thought. Mod-fast. I'll go try it out. Hopefully I will be fine. Maybe I can return it and swap.
  12. Just saw the 6 piece Megabass Hyuga. It's a 7 foot light rod. Could a 6 piece rod possibly be good? If it is decent I may have to snag it. Shouldn't get hit too hard with customs fees either.
  13. Just channel catfish. On a relatively slow river.
  14. I'll double check again when I get off work. But I'm pretty positive that's what the specs where. It was also a two piece rod. I was really surprised to see it in the store because they didn't have that model listed online.
  15. When is the catfish and carp bite worth fishing? I'm up in MA and the water is still pretty cold. I would be fishing in a river. Also any tips for choosing spots? I have a jon boat so I can pick any spot. Sadly no fish finder as of right now.
  16. Went with a 7 foot Cabelas IM8 medium light fast action paired with a Pflueger President 6930. Thanks guys!
  17. Now that I really think about it. The biggest I would throw on that rod is a 3/8 oz all the way down to weightless worm or grub with a little split shot is about my lightest. But I'm a little hesitant to go to a light rod. I already have some sunline 7 pound flourocarbon so that's what I would be spooling with. Is there really that big of a difference from a ML to a L?
  18. Started tying my own hair jigs. I want to dedicate a rod to them. The largest I would throw is 1/4 oz. Any suggestions?
  19. Thanks guys!
  20. I'm fishing up in MA. In rivers with light current. The fish here will probably be 20 lbs and under.
  21. So I want to try my hand at some carp and cat fishing. What setup would you recommend for this? Bonus points if I could use this setup for some sort of bass or other fishing application as well. I don't have a ton of money to spend on fishing stuff right now, so a versatile setup would be really helpful.
  22. Jigs and spybait type lures.
  23. On my 2 rods I have braided line with flourocarbon leaders. A lot of lakes/ponds fishing the bottom works really well, I'm wondering if my bait will be able to stay on the bottom better if I use just only flourocarbon. What effect on action does my flourocarbon leader have?
  24. I've started to just cast out a bobber + live bait when it's slow bass fishing to hook up some sunfish or whatever bites. Obviously I prefer live bait but what's another good bait I can just throw in my tackle box and pull out just in case I don't have live bait on hand? I tried the Berkley Gulp maggots and those are alright.
