I would have to say Dwight. I fish the exact same lake as he does (Lake Erie) and I cannot produce near the size of fish he does. I still can't break that 7 lb. mark for a Smallmouth and he seems to catch one every outing. Therefore, his ability is something I can greatly appreciate.

Hey, I was also on ESPN in 2005 (Pittsburgh Classic) with Jerry McKinnis (Actually, I was standing right behind him as he gave some commentary, but I was on ESPN).

I've been hearing great things about it from others. I watched a bit of it, definitely better than a lot of the other shows in my opinion. Some shows don't show enough fish catching, and some are just too unrealistic. Come on David....you're a good guy. Lets be real here though. The ONLY reason you're posting about this show is due to the fact that Gary Dobyns is in it. If he wasn't, you'd not be making this thread. Well, after watching this show from my DVR, I actually had the same thought, because this show was painful to watch and wondered why someone would promote it so strongly. As far as The Bass Pros, episode 2 of this season was on yesterday. The Bass Fishing 101 segment had Woo Daves featured in it this week and it was relatively informative. They really upgraded the show by removing the Art of Angling and adding the Bass Fishing 101 segment. I also like how they extended "Fishing in 4" to "Fishing in 5." Just an all around great show.

I'm left handed and reel with my right hand. So whether I am fishing with a baitcasting set-up, spinning set-up, or fly fishing, the rod never leaves my left hand. Not sure if there is ever an advantage to having to switch the rod over to another hand after the cast.

Great advice! I have 16 tackleboxes full of lures and I found I only used 2% of what I had. So I consolidated all my "goto" lures into one bag and that's all I take with me. As RW mentioned, if you get what is on his list (and I'm sure you have a few choices of your own you like), you should be good to go in almost all situations.

If he is guilty of the alleged charges, then he will definitly land somewhere in the future...jail. Here in Pittsburgh, there is an odd happiness that this all occurred. No one was happy with the hire (or with Pederson for that matter). Maybe Pederson will actually consider Tom Bradley this time (his reason for not considering him before was because he was a Penn State guy.) The Pitt - Penn State rivalry has been dead for some time and I think Pederson is a nut case for using this excuse. Maybe they will bring Wannstedt back.

I've always been a fan of the Pflueger Supreme. They are not that expensive (Retail $99.99, but you can find sales or use coupons and get them for $79.99 or lower). A workhorse of a reel and a little lighter than the Sahara.

Actually, I do, too. I would love to see a Superbowl rematch from the 2005 season.

Good enough record to win the NFC West. I'm sure the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Giants are not that happy about it, but I guess that's how it goes.

I have the G Loomis Shakyhead GLX 822S and it is an unbelievable rod. I have tried several rods for Shakyhead fishing (even other G Loomis Rods) and this rods really shines above the rest in terms of sensitivity, action (the action of these rods really allow you to fling out those light jigheads), and power (this rod has some good backbone). Really good rod and if I were you, I would shop around and see if you could get a deal on one. Good luck in your search.

I still think the absolute best fishing show is The Bass Pros (which is on vurses now instead of ESPN).

Those dirty rats did the same thing to me. The only reason I switched from Comcast to Fios was for WFN and then they go and change all their channel packages and WFN ended up in the premium package. I hate when these tv companies keep switching the channels and packages and take channels from you without warning.

Well, I'm sure if you lived in the Erie area, you would know what drop shot bait we are referring to. As mentioned before, there are a lot of baits that will work on drop shot rigs and I wouldn't say this one bait is that much better than others on most days. Though, there are those days where for some reason, this bait really works magic.

1. Jerkbait (various brands) 2. Drop Shot (Will not name specific bait, but I bet it is that same as what J Francho uses. The guys I fish with affetionatly call it "rubber gold" or "soft gold," because of how well it works.) 3. Senko type bait (again, various brands)

I agree with that, but I'm not sure where you will find this set-up for less than $175 that is not hot.

I don't know who will win, but I am hoping the Penguins do win.

hmmm...I never really thought of a Steez for the job. For some reason, i just assumed the Steez wouldn't have the power to handle the abuse of pulling fish out of heavy slop that this techniques requires. May have to look into that as well. Thanks RedlineRobert!

Thanks for all the opinions guys. I currently have the Zillion on my frog rod, but I am not a big fan of it. I don't like how much it weighs, which is why I am looking at the Chronarch and Core.

It amazes me how so many people have so many different experiences. I personally love Fluorocarbon (as for the reasons I mentioned above), but some just have not had any luck with it. Of course there is no right or wrong, but the varying opinions are very drastic. I guess that's how life is.

I used to use braid all the time, but from experience on the water, I have migrated to Fluorocarbon for 80% of the techniques I fish. Main reasons I use fluorocarbon: - It Sinks (which I like for jerkbaits, crankbaits, senkos, jigs, weighted plastics, swimbaits, and any finesse technique) - I can see it better above the water over braid (this comes in handy for line watching techniques, like Senkos, plastics, & jigs) - I like having a little stiffness in the line (especially for jigging spoons where braid will foul up on your spoon after every jerk). - I like having a little stretch (when setting the hook at close quarters with a stout rod, I like having a little give in the system, which will come through the line) - Has great abrasion resistance (Fluorocarbon tippet is hard to beat for fly fishing) - I find it to be plenty sensitive enough (especially if you have a nice sensitive rod you are using it on). - Supposed to be less visible underwater (as others have mentioned, this is down on the list as to why I use Fluoro, but in theory, it is supposed to be an advantage) All I seem to use braid for nowadays is frogs and drop shotting (and for drop shot fishing, I use a long fluorocarbon leader). I think you may have misunderstood what I said... I agree with this (about using Fluoro for better above surface visibility). I have Red Braid and Green Braid on a few of my set-ups and I have a hell of a time seeing these lines sometimes when trying to line watch. As for the Fluoro, I have a much easier time picking it up with my eyes and being able to see the movement in the line. I don't know if this is a function of the polarized glasses I wear or just what my eyes can see best, but if I am using a line watching technique, Fluoro is what I am using.

Good points Raul. As far as the gears in the Core 100 MgFV, I think I read that model has brass gears and the 100Mg and 50mg have the aluminum ones (which would explain part of the extra weight the 100MgFV has over the 100Mg).

I am looking at getting either a Core 100MgFV or a Chronarch D7 for hollow body frog fishing. The obvious advantage of the Core is the light weight and the obvious advantage of the Chronarch is the lower price. What I am wondering is which reel would have the durability to handle pulling in a 3 lb. bass along with 10 lbs. of slop, which would be the deciding factor. Please let me know of your experience with either reel. Thanks.
