St. Croix vs. Loomis
Avid's are nice, but G Loomis IMX rods are Great, G Loomis GLX rods are Unbelievable, and from holding it (but not actually fishing it) Steez rods will Blow Your Mind.

Muskie/Pike Reel Suggestions?
This post will probably get moved, but the standard reel for musky fishing is the Abu Garcia 5500 C3 (or 6500 C3). Great reel for musky (I have been using several of these for over 10 years now and they are workhorses)

Keeping fish for eating.
I C&R everything. Here's a story that happened and it rather angered me. There was a gentleman fishing with a bobber & worm and threw everything he caught into a dry white bucket. I figured that was no big deal since he was only catching bluegill. Well, he then caught a 5 lb Smallmouth in a lake where a 5 lb. SM is about as common as 20 lb LM are in CA. He procedes to throw the SM into his bucket (with the tail sticking out of the top). Before everyone here starts to say that it is his right to keep a fish, this took place a week before Bass season was even open. I approached the guy and informed him that Bass season wasn't open yet and that it might be in his best interest to release that fish. He proceded to tell me that was the biggest fish of his life. Then I told him that maybe the case, but if he was caught with that fish, he would face some heavy fines. Well, to make a long sory short, by the time I convinced him to release the SM, it was already dead, since it was sitting in a dry bucket for the 10 minutes it took for me to get through to the guy. Needless to say, I was a little angry.

Look what happened....
Why don't you buy one and let us know first hand how you feel. If you don't like it, I am sure you can sell on here for a minimal loss.

Redskins Fans!
Hail to the Redskins Hail Victory Indians on a Warpath Fight for ol' Dixie (or D.C.) I am a huge Redskin (and Steelers) fan. My father was born and raised in Wahington D.C., so my earliest memory is watching the Redskins win the Superbowl in January of 1983. I was rather impressed with Campbell the other night. As far as Bill Cowher coaching the Redskins, you may have to fight the Carolina Panthers for him (since he bought a huge home there).

Best Worm Rig Under $300
I would say the best worm rig for under $300 would be a G Loomis IMX MBR843C (I got on eBay for $165) and a Daiwa Fuego (I got on the Flea Market section for $135). Now, if you are not willing to search for the deals, then I would say your best bet is to purchase a Shimano Curado 100D ($165.00 at Delo's - http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocurado.html) and probably a Shimano Crucial CRC-66MH ($129.99 at Cabelas, Bass Pro, and other locations). With tax on the rod, this will put you slightly over $300, but you will have one nice set-up. Though, I personally would spend more on a rod for a worm set up. If I were you, I would get a G Loomis IMX MBR783C (retail for $235.00) and a Abu Garcia Revo SC (right now on sale at Cabelas for $79.99). This would put you $15 over your budget (plus taxes), but you will think you died and went to Heaven fishing this set-up. That's just my humble opinion on the subject.

You have shorts and a t-shirt on in the middle of winter?

GL2s or Avids???
The G Loomis brand doesn't seperate itself from the rest of the field until the IMX and GLX line of rods. I think the GL2 and GL3 are priced the way they are because of the name G Loomis, but the IMX and GLX are worth what you pay.

Fenwick vs Loomis vs Kistler Rods
This would be my suggestion exaclty. Get a GLX instead of the IMX and step down the reel. Plus, I would suggest the 843C (I also have both the 843 & 844, but I find the 843 as a more universal rod. I use the 844 for C-rigs and soft plastics in heavy cover)
-
decisions, decisions....
This is an easy one...G Loomis IMX MRB843C (though an 844C would be good, but I think as an all around rod, an 843C is a little better) and the Curado 100 D. I have both the 843C and 844C along with the Curado 100 D and I love it. Though, make sure when you use the combo that the reel screw is down tight. There has been some discussions on here about the Curado 100 being a little loose in the reel seat.

OH NO, NOT ANOTHER SHIMANO ROD QUESTION!!!
If you break a rod for any reason, you take it to Cabelas and they tell you to go get another one off the rack and they exchange it with no questions asked. One rod I had, my nephews stepped on and broke off the tip of the rod. I took it back (with no proof of purchase) and in 3 minutes, I had a new rod. Another time I went in to replace the top guide (my girlfriend wound up a lure way to hard against the end and the ceramic tip came out) and the guy at Cabelas told me not to waste my time trying to fix it and exchanged it for a brand new one. To me that is what I call "over the counter" warranty. B.T.W. Cabelas XML rods are great rods (I currently have 8 of them and if they go on sale, I will be getting a few more).

OH NO, NOT ANOTHER SHIMANO ROD QUESTION!!!
This warranty is a myth. I broke a Crucial before and had problems returning it for this "over the counter" warranty. The real warranty is as follows. If you break the rod in the first year, you can get a replacement from where you purchased it if you have a proof of purchase (hence the "over the counter" part). Then after a year from the purchase date, you have to send the rod to Shimano (you pay shipping) and they will determine if it was broken due to a manufatures defect (I don't know how they do this). If they determine you broke to rod by accident (e.g., stepped on it, car door, etc.) then you have to pay repair or replacement costs. I have heard they are a little liberal on this, but I still think that G Loomis Rods and Cabelas Brand Rods have the best warranties I have every seen (I assume Bass Pro Rods may have a good warranty policy as well, but I never tested it out). That is why I stick with these two brands of rods.

Best bass rods and reels
Let's put it this way. What his girlfriend got him for Christmas last year is more then I spent on all my tackle and I have several G Loomis IMX and GLX rods.

Need help with musky
What!?...You are joking right? I've never heard of anyone eating a musky (plus you would be hung if you did so around here). You might be better off fishing for Carp and eating them (from what I hear they aren't that bad) and no one will kill you for doing so.

Just ordered new Revo SX

Fat Ikas......Where to Purchase?
The Dicks Sporting Goods by me had the Smoke Gray with Silver Flakes on clearance for $2.49 + tax a package of 10. Has anyone tried this color and had success?

Bitter Rivalry?????
I never could understand why anyone would have such a passion for any professional, college, high school, little league, or any other team. Especially people who didn't even got that school! Sports are enjoyable to watch, but to get to the point where you grab some other guys crotch...you have got to be kidding me. I guess there isn't much else to do in some of these places where an obsession with a team is all you have (though, I shouldn't talk, because Pittsburgh is a town obsessed with the Steelers, but I've never heard of an incident where a Steelers fan ripped off the manhood of a Browns fan).
-
Ideal rod for the Ikas.
I think you would be hard pressed to find a better rod then the G Loomis 844C (either the GLX or IMX) for the Fat Ikas in cover. I fish my Ikas on a G Loomis 843C when there is more of an open water situation (e.g., submerged weedbed)

The bass fishing industry......
That would be like me saying I don't like how the NBA has developed so I won't play basketball in my driveway anymore. I don't think there is any reason to be put off. You could easily goto Walmart, purchase a Zebco 33 with some hooks and bobbers and be on your way to a relaxing lazy afternoon. The fishing industry shouldn't change the way you enjoy fishing. I personally like watching the tournaments and splurging on a high end rod here or there, but I don't think I would like the tournament atmosphere. Therefore, I don't participate in them, but I still enjoy a nice day out on the water.

Do the hooks hurt the fish?
Here's a great article to read on the subject: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art34031.asp Now after reading that with all the scientific evidence presented, I think its clear fish feel great pain ;D

Rapala DT cranks
Thats a good question. I use my DT's for hitting the top of the submerged weeds and open water fish. I never ran mine off rocks or rip-rap yet. I will have to find some rocks and see how the lure does. PS For submerged weedbeds and open water applications, the DT's are great.

Best bass rods and reels
I would suggest a 7 foot Medium Power Spinning Rod (a lot of guys like St. Croix, I personally like Cabelas XML spinning rods) with a decent Spinning Reel (I think for the money a Pflueger Trion or President is the way to go). This should get you back in the saddle.

Unusual Catches
I have caught several bass before by throwing a senko on top of the slop to retrieve it across the top to let it fall into a hole when it got blasted by a LM on the way across the surface. Those fish are funny creatures. They hit stuff they aren't supposed to and at times never hit what you would swear they should. B.T.W. I don't know if you guys noticed, but this topic was moved from "General Bass Fishing "to "Fishing Tackle" by RW and then moved back to "General Bass Fishing" by Glenn. I't would be funny if RW moves it back.
