  1. I got a wide eye with the purchase of a jon boat last year. The owners manual didn't come with though. I'm wondering if there is more i can learn from it besides depth. I've surfed for a manual but have so far come up with nothing. Any help is appreciated. Fatz

I'm in northern Illinois. I use a weedless hook and work it like a jig.
  3. I've caught 1 lbs tenfold, but never a ten lb'er. If I fished a week and the only fish landed weighed 10 lbs I'd be a happy angler.
  4. I stayed tuned to my pole, bait, line, etc. If I feel like music I'll sing a song. Johnny Cash RIP

Squid, I only meant that since it was above 50 degrees you may be inclined to go out on the porch. But you may have to make some fairly long casts to get to the water. ;D
  6. Fatdaddy, you have my most sincere condolences as to your recent loss. I'm happy to hear it was insured and the stuff can be replaced. The principle is what ticks me off, and the fact that your property was violated by good for nothing, low down, rotten, devil sons of ... Did they just take fishin gear?

Finally, I caught a couple bigmouth (15", 14"). The winter has been too long. As I wait for the ice chunks to float by, I cast to open water. Chompers smoke tube is the bait. The fish are on the move. It was 52 degrees today so even Squid would've been able to fish. lol
  8. Diving right in is cool. Pace yourself though. Go out with only 2-3 new things to try or practice. Learn them well. Throwing everything in the box without really learning how to work different baits is counterproductive and can be costly with lost baits. Have a plan and stick with it. Everything you need to know, to get started, is found here at bassresource.

  10. I used to read everthing I could get my hands on about fishing, during the winter. Luckily, I now have bassresource to get my info from. All those magazines were costing a small fortune. unfortunately, when the season came around I would have numerous techniques and baits I wanted to try. Ended up throwing everything and learning little. This year I intend to focus on three techniques and as many baits to learn each well.
  11. I bought a jon boat last summer and spent a lot of time controlling it. The new trolling motor should help. I'll fish from shore most often because of convienence. I look forward to the lessons in structure fishing from the boat.
  12. I like fishin for smallmouth. Oh, wait largemouth. I mean smallmouth. Or was it largemouth. Wow! I really dig given bass sore lips.
  13. good question Reelwise. I was wondering the same. heck I was gonna try the Carolina rig this sping with plastics. Sorry I'm no help. i'm mostly a texas rig fan. The ice is breakin up so not much longer.

Army Reservist for 11 years. Deployed: Guatemala, Korea, and Iraq. Rather carry a fishing pole than a M16 any day. Fished a pond at Saddam's palace in Tikrit, Iraq. Used corn from the chow hall. Caught some little ones that looked like carp. It was different. Waitin to go back, hope not though.
